Don’t Wait Till Your Chicks Arrive...
Prepare First...

One big mistake many new poultry farmers make is waiting until the chicks arrive before getting ready. By then, it’s already too late to correct certain things that could affect their health and growth.

If you want your chicks to grow fast and stay healthy, your preparation should start days before they come. Here’s what to do before they arrive:

1. Clean and disinfect the brooding house. Sweep, wash and spray with disinfectant. Make sure no dirt or old droppings are left behind. Germs hide there.

2. Pre-heat the brooder. Test your heat source, whether it’s a bulb, charcoal pot or gas brooder, at least 24 hours before. The place should be warm and ready before the chicks land.

3. Spread clean bedding. Use dry wood shavings or rice husk. Avoid sawdust because it’s too fine and can choke chicks.

4. Clean feeders and drinkers. Wash them with disinfectant and rinse well. Dirty equipment is one of the main causes of early chick sickness.

5. Prepare clean water with glucose and vitamin C. This helps your chicks recover from stress after transportation.

6. Seal all air entry points. Cold air can make chicks pile on each other and some may die from suffocation.

Getting ready before your chicks arrive saves you money, stress and losses. Preparation is half the success in poultry farming.

So you’ve finally gathered some capital and you’re ready to start your poultry farm?
That’s a big step congratulations.

But before you rush to buy chicks, here’s what you should actually do first..

First, decide what type of poultry you want to start with.
Broilers for meat or layers for eggs?
Pick one and focus on it. Trying to do both at once will only stress you and drain your capital.

Next, choose your space.
If you’re starting from your backyard, that’s perfectly fine.
Just make sure the place has good ventilation, is not too close to your kitchen or bedroom, and is easy to clean.
You don’t want the smell taking over your house.

Now plan your housing.
Keep it simple.
Use local materials like wood, bamboo, or zinc.
What matters most is that the place is airy, dry, and secure from rain, rats, and predators.

Get your basic equipment ready.
Feeders, drinkers, a heat source for brooding, and clean water containers.
They don’t have to be expensive, just functional.

Before bringing in your chicks, disinfect everything.
Wash and spray the pen, feeders, and drinkers with disinfectant.
Prevention is always cheaper than treatment.

Then buy your chicks from a reliable hatchery.
Avoid random sellers who can’t guarantee healthy stock.
Cheap chicks often end up being costly mistakes.

When your chicks arrive, give them warm water mixed with glucose and vitamin C.
It helps them recover from transport stress before they start feeding.

Keep them warm, feed regularly, and provide clean water every day.
Monitor them closely during the first two weeks because that’s when they’re most fragile.

Don’t forget vaccination.
Follow the proper schedule even if you’re raising them in your backyard.
Healthy birds will always bring you better returns.

And finally, keep learning.
Join poultry groups, follow experienced farmers, and take notes of your expenses and growth.
That’s how you’ll improve with every batch.

Start small, manage wisely, and grow gradually.

Differences between Broilers and Layer Farming

Broilers and layers are two types of chickens that are raised for different purposes. Here are the differences between broiler and layer farming:

1. Purpose: Broilers are raised for meat production, while layers are raised for egg production.

2. Breeds: Broiler chickens are typically meat breeds, while layer chickens are egg-laying breeds.

3. Growth rate: Broilers grow at a faster rate than layers, reaching market weight in 6–8 weeks, while layers reach maturity at around 20 weeks.

4. Feed requirements: Broilers require a high-protein diet to promote muscle growth, while layers require a balanced diet that includes calcium for eggshell production.

5. Housing: Broilers are typically housed in large open floor spaces or in cages, while layers are often housed in battery cages or free-range systems.

6. Lighting: Broilers are typically raised with 24 hours of light to promote growth, while layers require a specific amount of light to encourage egg production.

If your chickens are eating well but not growing or laying eggs, the problem might not be the feed...

It's the WATER!

Dirty or stagnant water can silently kill your birds or slow their growth. A simple habit of changing water twice daily and cleaning drinkers can save you thousands in losses.

Most farmers focus on feed and vaccines but ignore water hygiene.

don't be that farmer!

When raising broilers, always check these signs for healthy birds:

1. Bright, clear eyes

2.Clean feathers (no signs of mites)

3.Active and eating well

4. Firm breast and legs

5. Droppings: solid, not

In poultry, consistency is the real secret ingredient for profit.

Some farmers say: “God will take care of my chickens.🐔

But the truth is… without these simple habits, even prayer won’t save your flock.

Healthy chickens don’t happen by chance.
they happen by what you do daily.

I’ve seen too many farmers lose birds because they ignore the basics.

Before You Start Poultry Farming, Read This or Regret Later!

🐓 Too many people rush into poultry farming and end up losing money, birds, and motivation. If you want to start right and avoid costly mistakes, here are 5 things you MUST know first:

1. Breed Matters! 🐓Don’t just buy any bird. Layers, broilers, and cockerels have different needs, lifespans, and profits.
