"In my opinion, and after careful consideration, the vituperation directed at Sani Abacha in the book , tittled "A Journey in Service" seems to have sparked the controversies and allegations surrounding the former military president Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB). This, combined with the political maneuvering within the military regime, is widely believed to have played a key role in the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election, in which Moshood Abiola was the clear winner. The annulment appears to have stemmed from a mix of fears within the military leadership about losing control, along with regional and ethnic tensions that threatened the established political order.
Nevertheless, IBB should have made a concerted effort in his book to explain to Nigerians why, as the then military head of state, the voice and decisions of his Chief of Defence Staff seemed to carry more weight than his own, and why national broadcasting channels appeared to operate beyond his control during such a crucial moment in the nation's history."
