KANO: RELOCATE TO BOARDING PREMISES OR LOSE YOUR JOB – Ganduje orders school principals.

The Kano State Government has ordered all Principals of boarding schools in the state to relocate to their school premises or lose their jobs.

Mr Muhammad Sanusi-Kiru, the state Commissioner of Education, gave the directive in Kano while presenting the Common Entrance Examination forms to zonal educational inspectors.

He insisted that all Principals are expected to relocate to their respective school premises to ensure the security and safety of their students.

“I am directing all principals of boarding schools to relocate to their schools immediately or face the sack.

“Any Principal that has issues with accommodation within the school should write to the ministry so that necessary measures can be taken.

“It does not make sense that students are left in schools, while principals, who are the first officials to be contacted in case of any emergencies are sleeping outside the schools.

”There is a need for all principals to be close to their students, especially at this critical moment of security challenges in the country.

“I want to assure you that security agents will be deployed to the schools to monitor the principals. Anyone found wanting would blame himself or herself,” the commissioner said.

He gave assurance of the government’s commitment to ensuring that all schools are fenced, especially boarding schools, to ensure adequate security.Sanusi-Kiru also ordered the immediate deployment of vigilantes across all boarding schools in the state to boost security and safety.

"School Closure Poses Another Danger Of Setback Amid COVID-19," Says Gov. Ganduje

Closure of schools amid COVID-19 prevalence, in the second wave phase, could cause another tragedy of taking the society back again, while the devastating virus keeps following students and/or pupils to their homes.

This observation was made by the Kano state governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, while holding a stakeholders meeting with members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) with some selected Head Teachers, in the series of Stakeholders Sensitisation Meetings on Second Wave of COVID-19 In Kano, held at Africa House, Government House, Kano, Friday.

According to the governor, though there is a dire need to fight the pandemic using all available avenues, but called on all, to clearly understand repercussions of certain actions in the process.

"The issue is not that of closing schools. When you close schools, it is another tragedy also. Because if you close schools with the intent that you take students away from COVID-19, the same pandemic is capable of following them into their respective homes. So what are we saying? he asked rhetorically.

Stating that, the closure of schools would take students and the system of education back again, "...it is because of this, that we exempted teachers from staying at home. Unlike other civil servants, whom we ordered must not come to work, but stay at home," he explained.

He warned that, COVID-19 protocols must be complied with, saying "We must comply with all the protocols as provided by our able health workers. This is absolutely necessary."

After assuring them of government's commitment in the free and compulsory primary and secondary education policy, governor Ganduje urged parents to help teachers and government in making sure that their children always comply with the protocols of COVID-19.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic frustrating effort which undermines Kano state 2020 fiscal document, as is the case world over, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje administration hinted few days back, that the 2020 budget of over N200 Billion would be reduced by 30 percent.

El-Rufa'i Copying Ganduje In Fight Against Drug Abuse, Says NDLEA

-As Gov Ganduje destroys fake drugs worth over N380m

Governor Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufa'i of Kaduna state, takes a leaf from governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state, in the fight against drug abuse, as observed by the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, adding that Ganduje's strategy is worth copying.

The observation was made by NDLEA Commandant, Kano office, Dr Ibrahim Abdul, who made this known during a destruction exercise of expired/adulterated packaged food and illicit drugs worth over N380 Million, which took place at NDLEA office Airport road, Tuesday, by governor Ganduje.

Dr Abdul said, "For a very long time, I came to know that it was only Kano state under Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje that we have Special Adviser on the Fight Against Drugs Abuse. But I learned that Kaduna state governor Malam Nasiru El-Rufa'i is copying from Gov. Ganduje in having Special Adviser on the Fight Against Drug Abuse also."

Explaining that, Ganduje's style and strategy in fighting against drug abuse, is commendable and worth copying because of the fruitful results the state is witnessing.

"When governor Ganduje assumed the mantle of leadership, Kano was the first in the list of states with drug abuse. But because of what the governor has been doing to safeguard his state, Kano is now the 6th state in the list. This is highly commendable by all standard," he appreciates.

In his remarks governor Ganduje said his administration attaches importance to the fight against drug abuse, "That was why I directed that all political appointees must go through drug test. All my Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, Advisers, Heads of Agencies, among others, were tested. NDLEA is here to testify that."

"Because we are determined in this fight, that is why we said we must institutionalise the effort. A Bill is before the State Assembly on Drug Administration Agency. We want have strong institution for that. But then we are not usurping the responsibilities of other federal agencies saddled with this responsibility.

We are only complimenting their efforts. That is why, when established, the Agency would work hand in hand with the federal agencies to achieve drug-free society," he reveals.

While calling on all the agencies responsible for the fight against drug abuse, to partner with each other, he said "Working together as a team is necessary for the success of the effort. All security agencies should also work closely with other agencies to see that we achieve this in our state and the nation in general."

On the relocation of drug sellers from Sabon Gari to the newly established, under construction, Dangwauro World Market, he strongly warned that, "All drug marketers from Sabon Gari must relocate to the new market. Which satisfies the federal government policy on open market for drugs."

Warning further that, he would not take any complaint on trivialities, that, "Whoever has any complaint should come to my office and report. But to complain on trivial issues like the building is not fit for one's business and other such issues, would not be tolerated.

If you have any issue come to my office and I will call on all the stakeholders and discuss it. This is a very strong warning I am putting forth!

He commended all the agencies responsible for the fight against drug abuse, together with all the security agencies and state Agencies like Hisbah, Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) amongst others.

KEY INTO ONGOING N-POWER REGISTRATION, KNSG UGRGES INDIGENES

With the re-opening of the application portal of the federal government’s Social Investment Scheme, N-Power for the recruitment of a new set of Batch C beneficiaries of the scheme, the government of Kano state appeals to interested and eligible indigent applicants to avail themselves of the opportunity.

A statement signed by the commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba says the portal opened Friday, June, 2020 for fresh registration of intakes and that all the processes involved in the application are free.

He explains that the programme, which is open to all, has the mandate of lifting citizens out of abject poverty through capacity building, investment, and direct support.

Malam Garba says while the process is still ongoing, interested and eligible applicants should visit the N-Power portal to register at https://t.co/2ZzGc1IUow and must have acceptable government Identity Cards.

The commissioner cautions prospective applicants to be wary of schemers who might take the advantage to exploit them as applicants do not have to pay anybody.
