The Ibibio are believed to be among the earliest settlers of the coastal rainforest region of present-day Akwa Ibom State in southern Nigeria. According to oral traditions and historical accounts, their ancestors migrated centuries ago and established thriving communities known for farming, fishing, trade, and craftsmanship.

The Ibibio developed a well-organized traditional system of governance led by village councils, family heads, and respected elders. Their society values unity, respect, hard work, and community development.

One of the most famous aspects of Ibibio culture is the Ekpo Masquerade, a traditional institution that represents ancestral heritage, justice, and cultural identity.

Today, the Ibibio people continue to preserve their language, customs, music, dances, and festivals while contributing significantly to Nigeria's growth in education, business, politics, and the arts.

🇳🇬 The Origin of the Hausa People – Traditional / Oral History

According to Hausa tradition, the origin of the Hausa people is linked to a famous figure known as Bayajidda.
Legend has it that Bayajidda was a prince who came from the east, with some stories tracing his journey to Baghdad. During his travels, he arrived in Daura, one of the ancient Hausa kingdoms.
At that time, the people of Daura were living in fear because a giant serpent was said to be guarding their only well, preventing them from fetching water freely.
Bayajidda bravely confronted and killed the serpent, bringing relief and joy to the people of Daura.
Because of his courage, the queen of Daura married him. Their descendants were believed to have founded the seven original Hausa states, popularly known as the Hausa Bakwai.
This legend remains an important part of Hausa history and cultural identity.
