CONTROLLED BY THE SPIRIT.

GALATIANS 5: 22 -23.

GOLDEN VERSE: "Gal 5: 22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control". NKJV

To be controlled by the Holy Spirit is to live under His control and He endues you with His fruit as in Gal 5: 22-23.

A christian character should be a refection of the fruit of the Holy Spirit if he is under the Holt Spirit control.

Do you have self-control which is both a fruit of the Holy Spirit and His gift (Gal 5: 23, 1 Cor 7: 7-9).

Are you gentle in character?

Do you show goodness to others?

Are you loving even to your enemies?

The spirit - filled christian having been born of God have the Spirit of God, lives, walks and should be under the Holy Spirit God control.

Have you ever experienced a feeling of disconnect from God or an unwillingness to pray or to worship at times?

Perhaps you have, and that also happens to many, but you can recover and be filled by the Holy Spirit through His help.

Our Lord Jesus knew that the race to being spirit filled and controlled life of a child of God requires God's help by His Spirit.

You need to continuously seek and yielding to the person and control of the Holy Spirit.

Living a life controlled by the Spirit is not always easy.

Humans are prone to selfishness, pride, and sin. However, when the Holy Spirit is at work in us, He produces the fruit of the Spirit in our lives.

Hence, Jesus declared in Acts 1:8, that the power to stay in faith and love of the Father is through the Spirit, and as you surrender to His control, He manifests Himself through His fruit in you, which enables you to walk in love joy, peace, patience, kindness etc.

These are the qualities that should characterize your life as you allow the Holy Spirit to guide and direct you.

In self- control you are able to overcome evil temptations such as anger, lust and sexual immorality.

The presence and control of the Spirit enables you to obey the Lord, and to walk in His will; making it easy to love others selflessly, experience joy that is not dependent on circumstances, and have peace that surpasses understanding.

Through the Spirit of God, you are able to resist temptation and make wise choices that honor God.

You will also be able to control your emotions and actions, avoiding outbursts of anger or harsh words that can hurt others.

Seek Him daily, asking Him to produce the fruit of the Spirit in your life that will help you to trust the Lord irrespective of your situation.

You are promised the Holy Spirit, so ask and receive Him to empower you.

Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." NKJV

PRAYER: Dear Lord, it is my prayer that You enable me to live a life controlled by Your Spirit. Fill me with Your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self- control. I yield myself to the Holy Spirit help in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.

DEALING WITH OVERWHELM.

PSALM 61: 1-2.

GOLDEN VERSE: "From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I" Psalm 61:2.

BIBLE READING IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 81-88.

EXPOSITORY
A certain man during his lifetime used to be a devout Church worker and a man of faith.

He desired to have one boy in the mix of his children who were all girls already, so he hoped and prayed till his wife got pregnant again and put to bed a baby boy.

However, it became unfortunate that the boy never lived beyond a day.

This threw the man off God for a few years and his faith became faint so much so that he stayed away from church for a few years till God visited him afresh.

A situation of overwhelming occurs in life due to our individual response to issues of life.

Some people have been known to become overwhelmed simply because they were not getting adequate support from the leaders in church or they felt mistreated at work, hence, they lost their zeal to life and to God.

The psalmist was honest enough to state that "when I am fainting and overwhelmed.." because he recognized that becoming overwhelmed was a matter of time.

What really makes the difference for anyone at the time of overwhelm is how we handle it.

One vital thing to note is what the Psalmist said "I will cry out to you, then you will lead me to the rock that is higher than I".

Are you overwhelmed by the issues of life?

Has darkness Overshadowed your heart and stole away your joy?

His Rock is your place of refuge, so open your mouth and cry out to Him now, ask Him to lead you to the rock that far outweighs you and your challenges, a place where enemies cannot get to.

You become strengthened when you cry out to the Lord, He is your present help in the times of trouble, with readiness to surmount every Goliath in your life.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, when my heart is overwhelmed, help me to cry out to You without hindrance in Jesus Christ Name.

WHEN PATIENCE LEADS.

JAMES 5: 7 -11.

GOLDEN VERSE: "Behold, we count them happy which endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy" James 5:11.

God has consistently shown His love for man despite the inability of man to understand God's timing, will and purpose, which makes man to constantly defy God's glory.

How much more can God show His wondrous love to us other that the way He did by giving us the best of all He has. Despite the gift of Jesus, many Christians still think that God is not sensitive to their plight and not timely; but the truth is that God always know the best time for everything.

A Yoruba adage says "f one is patient, you can lick a hot soup".

Patience is a virtue which faithful men and women of old used to walk with God, and this profited them, but the Christian walk today has changed; we want fast response to everything and if things does not work our way, we look for alternative means called plan B.

Many come up with prayer points as a result of the hurried options.

As humans, you should understand that, things happen according to God's appointed time and for reasons; being patient may look like delay, but it is usually the best.

There is a reason God created us in His own image; so that we can be like Him and one of the character of God is PATIENCE, if not that God is patient, He wouid have destroyed the world.

Patience does a lot when it leads; in patience you'l find love, forgiveness, peace and friendliness.

Lack of patience has caused more harm than good, if you can be more patient, you will understand the world better. Many Patriarchs in the Bible like Job, Abraham, Hannah and many others became heroes through patience and so they inherited heaven for this cause.

God's ways are not always man's ways and man's ways are not always God's ways, but come to think of it; what is the reason for this disparity is a question to consider?

God is spiritual and acts based on faith; man on the other hand is physical and acts with feelings and emotions of their sense organs.

The scriptures says a day in His presence is like 1,000 years, this arithmetic explains why you should not allow any wrong thought run you over but allow patience to lead.

The Holy Spirit thrives witha patient man and works marvelous things through him.

Will you allow patience to start leading you now?

PRAYER: My Father in, heaven, count me among those whose faith pleases You; and translate me to the better side as regards Your plan for me in Jesus Christ Name.

THE BATTLE IS OF THE LORD.

2 CHRONICLES 20: 15b.

GOLDEN VERSE: "This is what the Lord says to you: "Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's". 2 Chronicles 20:15b.

As a young child making her way through life, I have always wondered why life seems to be so hard for people, especially the ordinary ones.

They struggle to acquire basic things which they
need for life, struggle to gain admission into a good school within what they can afford, or struggle to get the best that life can offer them.

This has made a lot of people come up with the parlance that "life is a battle".

The truth is that life is not the only thing that is a battle, so also is being a Child of God.

The scripture teaches us to "fight the good fight of faith" because there is a battle which is ongoing between the children of God and the devil.

This battle is for your soul, and the goal ultimately is so that one of the two gets to win over your soul.

In an attempt to be the winner, the devil engages various arsenals to frustrate anyone who has made a decision to be on the side of the Lord.

He uses instruments such as famine, hunger, sickness, death and poverty to lure the children of God while in this battle.

It becomes easy to allow the devil win when you take your eyes of God, or you do not recognize that all the instruments the devil deployed have no power over you because God owns the battle and He already won.

Life only gets hard when we become discouraged or afraid at the sight of the vast instrument the devil is using.

Don't take your eyes off your Heavenly Father, because, He is the winner of all battles; however, He needs your acceptance and assurance that He is with you, and that He will never leave you - Trusting Him at every Battle is your sure and unfailing assurance of victory.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I put my trust in You, believing that You will never leave me no matter what life throws at me. By your grace and strength, I will always celebrate my sure victory in Jesus Christ Name.

HE SEES YOUR PAIN.

ISAIAH 43: 1 -7.

GOLDEN VERSE: "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze" Isaiah 43:2.

Our Golden verse for today is both an assurance and a prophecy which came directly from God to you His child.

This is a sign that, in whatever situation, no matter how bleak it is; He is always with you.

In His words, when you pass through water which could result to drowning and eventual death or fire which could cause very severe injury and death, you should see God riding with you in the midst of them all.

Be assured that, this is not a mere promise, but a covenant and God does not joke with His Covenant (Psalm 89:34).

You must have read about the Israelites in the book of Exodus how God rode with His people in the midst of the red sea, and how in the book of Daniel, He appeared at the midst of a furnace to save the 3 Hebrew boys from burning. What is the water or fire that you are currently passing through? Have the assurance that God is right there with you.

Why does He allow His children get into the river or fire before saving them you may ask?

The extent of God's saving power is revealed when you encounter challenges, and you eventually have a testimony.

In verse 1, God took ownership of you by calling you by your name, in verse 2 He assures you are not walking alone, He made the account of all He has done for and with you in verse 3, He mentioned in verse 4 how precious you are and how He has showered His unreserved love on you, He told you to fear not and expressed His plans in verse 5 and 6, and in verse 7 God ended with revealing that the reason He made you is for His Glory.

Isn't that a great reason to rejoice even in that situation you find yourself?

This is a great consolation and a blessing that God is in charge of your life and desire to walk with you all the way, daily and in every step and situation!

PRAYER: Father, give me the Grace to walk with You every step of my life henceforth in Jesus Christ Name.

WHAT MUST NOT FAIL - LUKE 22VS31-33.

GOLDEN VERSE: "But I have prayed for you, Simon, that you faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers" LUKE 22VS32.

Satan was envious of the relationship Peter had with his master, he also assessed him to have very great potentials for the kingdom, hence, he was all out to make him disconnect and fail the one who had chosen him.

Jesus proactively intervened and rescued Peter from wanton destruction.

Just as in Peter's case, Satan is excessively aggressive to ensure that you get out of God's power so that he can prey on you, to destroy you and your faith.

Satan had already got one, Judas; he had nearly got another, Peter; and he wished to have all, you inclusive, but the devil cannot even tempt a man unless permission is received.

Therefore, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" 1 Peter 5:8.

Jesus knew that Peter necessarily required his faith to withstand the enemy, so He prayed for Peter that his faith may not utterly fail.

Though Peter's faith did fail, but not utterly: he did fal, but he did not fall off, nor forsake his Master and his cause finally, as Judas did.

It is evident from Peter's denial of his Lord, that his faith did fail; but through the prayer of the Lord, he was restored with great courage to manifest his usefulness and defense of the gospel in the early church. "But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words" Acts 2:14.

After every fall, conversion is required. The word converted means turned, changed, recovered.

The meaning is, when you have recovered from the enemy's prowling, then use your experience to warn and strengthen those who are in danger of such.

To strengthen your brethren, you are to confirm, warn, and encourage them.

They are in continual danger, also, of sinning.

Use your experience to warn them of their danger, and to comfort and sustain them in their temptations.

PRAYER: May the enemy not have the better part of me, and may my faith not fail in Jesus Christ Name.

THE FAITH BOOSTER.

1 THESSALONIANS 3: 9-11.

GOLDEN VERSE: "Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you again and supply what is lacking in your faith". 1 Thessalonians 3:10.

Is there anything we will not require prayer for?

In obtaining faith, It is a necessity, in sustaining it also inevitable, it cannot be set aside.

For the Thessalonians, Paul was in the duty of making assiduous and constant prayers for them, night and day. Prayer requires frequency and constancy in performance of the duty.

His prayer was also very fervent and affectionate, praying exceedingly and excessively, even beckoning on other Christians to pray alongside, so as just to mend whatever gap that existed in their faith.

As much as many factors attempts to shrink the Christians' faith, conscious efforts should also be made to boost faith because the enemy considers faith as a threat.

Consistent and fervent prayers is a sure way of boosting your faith.

Jesus Christ also prayed for Peter that his faith might not fail, neither should he have himself being sieved by Satan. "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" James 5:16b.

Any prayer that intends to boost faith must be heartfelt and perpetual to make it fervent.

The best of men have something wanting in their faith at a time in their life, and thus requiring clarity or a boost of faith.

The factors that could cause a dent in faith originate through mysteries or doctrines that are not sufficiently known or believed by them.

To eliminate all doubts and darkness, prayers are required as a form of booster.

The ministry of the word and ordinances are also essential tools for faith booster.

Spending more time in the place of the prayer and the word will ensure that your faith receives the boost you need per time.

You cannot over pray in the circumstance of boosting your faith. Keep praying until your faith becomes very full, from faith to faith, and for effective Christian.

PRAYER: Dear Father, let my faith remain boosted from faith to faith in Jesus Christ Name.

NO MATTER WHAT!.

ROMANS 8:35 -39.

GOLDEN VERSE: "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?" Romans 8:35.

In today's text, Apostle Paul asked and answered the question - "What can separate us from the love of Christ?"

Can you give a sincere answer to this question in your heart?

Paul asked in verse 35 and gave his answer in verse 38-39 and the reason for his answer in verse 37. Is there truly not anything that can make you look back and give up the salvation or love God has showered on you?

Try making some scenarios to determine your response when something happens; will you still be in faith? But note, Paul said, nothing can separate him!

Familiarize yourself with verse 37 and see the reason you cannot afford to GIVE UP.

This is because God has, and not just planning to, He has already made you a conqueror above all things.

Why did He do that? Because you don't belong to the world since the day you were regenerated and became a true child of God.

You need to develop a golden and iron heart that no matter what comes your way 'nothing can separate me from Christ; I am a conqueror and will be for Jesus forever!

To become a soul-mate with Christ, you must block all areas of leakages of sin in your life in order to remain undefiled till Jesus comes to take you home. In our text this morning, Apostle Paul reminds us of the need to continually remain in the truth (God) and STANDOUT for Christ in this ever corrupt and perverse generation.

His address was to the young Roman believers, encouraging them not to be enticed by the tricks of the devil to co-opt them into the world system just as we experience today.

Are you refusing to be co-opted too or are you dancing to the beat of the devil's enticements?

God wants you to know that you are His, and you were bought with a huge price, nothing should shake you, not even death or debt, or financial and economic challenges.

You are at a better advantage and not less being with God.

You have a hope of heaven (life after life) and must remain aware of this, without allowing anything to unseat you of your faith.

Go in this light today!

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to continuously walk with You come what may in Jesus Christ Name.

THE FLESH AS ADVERSARY.

ROMANS 4: 18 -21.

GOLDEN VERSE: "Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead - since he was about a hundred years old and that Sarah's womb was also dead" Romans 4:19.

God had given Abraham the promise, but the flesh that was going to be instrumental in the process was not waiting for the promise, as it was aging and would no longer be fit to produce, time was running out on it.

Sarah heard that the manifestation of the promise is in 365 days' time, but the flesh influenced her to scoff at it becoming reality.

Nevertheless, Abraham was able to uphold all things by his faith, being able to ignore his own body that was now dead, as well as see the deadness of Sara's womb as a hindrance.

The flesh could not survive as an adversary! Abraham's non- regard for his physical body implies that he considered impotent any difficulties which lay in the way of his faith.

He admitted no doubts or questions concerning the promise or power of God; and without any dispute, he depended fully upon God for the performance of His own promise, and so gave God the glory of His Omnipotency, faithfulness and integrity.

God is in the driver's seat of your life, all you need to do is to hold on in faith as you wait in expectation for the reality of His promise.

Faith looks unto the strength of God, not to second causes, or to difficulties that may appear formidable to man.

Faith makes you look to men like a fool or a delusional being, whereas it is the only basis for God accepting and approving you.

If father Abraham did it as a mortal man, you can also place God above the flesh that is presently functioning as an adversary, prompting you to consider the facts, rather than cling on to the truth of God's promise.

You have to make a resolution by the power of God's Spirit in keeping the flesh under check, so it does not sting as an adversary, in resisting the fulfilment of God's promise.

Ability to withstand the flesh is by the Spirit of God.

Pray in faith for the manifestation of His spirit so that you can be
strengthened (Matthew 26:41).

PRAYER: Father, I keep increasing in the spirit, while the flesh becomes weaker and weaker in Jesus Christ Name.
