I honestly donโt understand how some people perceive women who work in marketing.
If you are a man and you contact a woman because you want to buy a product or make a business transaction with her, please let it remain what it isโbusiness.
Donโt contact a woman claiming to be interested in what she is selling, make arrangements to meet or do business with her, and then suddenly start expecting something personal from her. The fact that she is a marketer, responds to you politely, or comes to meet you for business does not mean she is interested in anything beyond the transaction.
If you donโt want to buy, it is completely fine to say so. There is no need to create a business opportunity simply because you have another intention.
What makes it even more concerning is when this behaviour comes from men who are married or already committed. But whether you are married or single, respect and boundaries should always come first.
Women in marketing are working to earn a living, meet their targets and build their careers. Please donโt mistake professionalism, friendliness or kindness for an invitation to cross a personal boundary.
Iโm speaking from experience, and I believe this is something some people genuinely need to understand.
Business is business. Respect is respect. And a woman doing her job should never be made to feel that she has to entertain anything else to earn a sale.
