An Appeal on the Proposed Transfer of NCE Courses
We, the indigenes of Daura and the surrounding communities, wish to humbly draw the attention of the Katsina State Government to the proposed plan to transfer some NCE courses from Yusufu Bala Usman College of Education, Daura to Isah Kaita College of Education, Dutsinma.
While we appreciate government’s commitment to improving education across the state, we are deeply concerned that this policy, if implemented, will bring serious negative consequences on access to higher education for our youths.
For many families in Daura and neighboring areas, Yusufu Bala Usman College serves as the most accessible and affordable avenue for children to further their education. Transferring these courses away would not only limit opportunities but also increase financial and logistical burdens on parents, many of whom already struggle to sustain their children’s schooling.
Your Excellency, education thrives when government policies are shaped to expand access, not restrict it. The presence of diverse courses in Daura has been a source of pride and a ladder of hope for hundreds of students who otherwise might not be able to afford or endure the cost of traveling and residing in distant locations.
We respectfully appeal that the government reconsiders this transfer and instead strengthens both colleges—ensuring that Yusufu Bala Usman College of Education continues to serve as a beacon of learning for Daura and its environs.
Our prayer is not adversarial; it is a plea for fairness, equity, and inclusiveness in educational development across Katsina State. By preserving and enhancing the NCE programmes in Daura, the government will be investing in the future of our children, reducing dropout rates, and reinforcing its commitment to education as a right, not a privilege.
We remain confident that, under your listening and people-centered leadership, this matter will be given the careful reconsideration it deserves.
