FARMER GOVERNOR UMARU BAGO ATTENDS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INAUGURATION OF OVER 2000 TRACTORS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said his renewed hope agricultural mechanization is yielding results with the launching of over 2000 tractors and other agricultural implements.

He said his administration procured over 2000 tractors, 50 industrial land preparation equipment, 12 fully equipped mobile workshops, 8000 ploughs specialised farming equipment, and other mechanised tools which he said if fully deployed will cultivate over 5 million hectares of agricultural land.

President Tinubu explained that the intervention will massively create jobs, produce massive foods, and transition farmers from using crude methods of farming to advanced mechanised farming practices.

Minister of State for Agriculture and food security, Senator Dr.Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi and the Minister of Agriculture and food security, Senator Abubakar kyari explained that the procurement of the agricultural implements is a major milestone in the Country's history.

Deputy Prime Minister,Republic of Belarus, Victor Karankevich commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the partnership highlighting its importance in food security and agriculture prosperity.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was accompanied by eminent personalities including Niger state Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago to the launching and inspection of the renewed hope agricultural mechanization implements.

The federal government, under the leadership of President Bola, deployed more than two thousand heavy-duty agricultural equipment to boost food production in the country.

The multi-billion dollar equipment, delivered under the Nigeria-Belarus partnership, represents the largest agricultural mechanization initiative in the country's history.

The tractors, which have been assembled in Abuja, were procured under a mechanisation partnership that was formalised in September 2024.

Alongside the tractors, the partnership includes the deployment of 9,072 assorted agricultural implements designed to support various farming operations.

To maximise impact, the tractors will be distributed through three key schemes:

1- Direct purchase for individuals and organisations wishing to acquire them outrightly

2.Leasing schemes that offer affordable access to mechanisation without the full costs of ownership

3. A service provider model that establishes tractor service centers in farming communities, enabling smallholder farmers to lease tractors as needed.

In response to the tragic incident, enraged students took to the streets in protest, blocking the Agaie–Lapai Expressway to demand justice and improved security measures. The protest, which lasted for about an hour already, disrupted vehicular movement and drew the attention of security operatives.

Regrettably, amid the chaos, the Founder of Lapai TV was allegedly attacked by a group of agitated protesters.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but the university community is calling for immediate intervention to restore calm and prevent further escalation.

Appeal for Fair Resolution in the Suspension of Dr. Bako

Your Excellency, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago,
Honourable Commissioner Hajiya Hadiza,

I write with utmost respect and a sense of professional responsibility to appeal for a fair and objective resolution to the ongoing issue involving the suspension of Dr. Bako, Director of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) in Niger State.

As a media professional, I took the liberty to conduct a thorough investigation following the viral news of Dr. Bako’s suspension. My findings indicate a need for deeper scrutiny and balanced judgment on this matter.

Since his appointment, Dr. Bako has demonstrated clear commitment and visionary leadership in repositioning the agency for excellence. Some notable milestones under his leadership include:

1. Revenue Growth via NiMVAS Software:
He secured approval from the previous administrationβ€”later revalidated by your Excellencyβ€”to deploy the NiMVAS software, which significantly boosted the agency’s revenue by 300%. However, this initiative was abruptly halted under the directive of the Honourable Commissioner, resulting in a noticeable decline in revenue generation.

2. Questionable Consultant Engagement:
The Honourable Commissioner engaged third-party consultants (Autoreg and Temple SYC) to handle core agency responsibilities without adequate technical oversight or collaboration with the VIO leadership. This has allegedly led to the circulation of unauthenticated documents and operational inefficiencies.

3. Structural Reversal:
Dr. Bako established a system-based structure and strategic staff deployment in accordance with the agency’s governing law. Unfortunately, these efforts were reversed, and staff redeployments made without due consultation, contributing to reduced discipline and operational disarray.

4. Revenue Monitoring & CBS Integration Challenge:
Dr. Bako has faced institutional challenges in integrating NGIRS’s POS systems with the Central Billing System (CBS). This has hindered transparent tracking of payments and weakened the agency’s ability to monitor data for policy formulation and security-related investigations.

5. Human Capacity Development:
He successfully facilitated training programs for newly recruited officers, equipping them to meet the agency’s future demands and improve service delivery.

Your Excellency, based on these observations, I respectfully recommend that an independent investigative committee be constituted to review all issues surrounding Dr. Bako’s suspension. This will not only ensure transparency and justice but will also position Niger State VIO for optimal performanceβ€”similar to the FCT VIO, which generates over ₦5 billion annually.

It is also concerning that reports suggest the Honourable Commissioner has maintained a strained relationship with Dr. Bako since assuming office. This perceived hostility may have influenced her decision to suspend him without following due administrative procedures.

I therefore urge both the Honourable Commissioner and the State Government to approach this matter with professionalism and fairness, putting the interest of Nigerlites and institutional integrity above all else.

Justice, when done, strengthens leadership.

Respectfully yours,
Yakubu Usman (Dan Amali)
