There's this common understand people have when they read this verse. They are either thinking Peter here is saying repent for your sins to be forgiven or be baptized for your sins to be forgiven or even both at times but when I read this that's not quite what I understand from it.
Think of it this way, if a doctor were to say to you take this drug for your headache, is he saying you should take the drug to get a headache? Of course not! On the contrary he's saying since you have this headache, take this drug.
Same thing applies when Peter says repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sin. He's not saying repent and be baptized for your sins to be forgiven but rather he's saying since your sins are forgiven repent, turn to God and be baptized.

We don't do any of those because we want are sins forgiven by God rather we do them because are sins are already forgiven by God ☺️☺️
