HON. Ayuba Umbugadu MOVES TO REVALIDATE NGOs IN NASARAWA, CRACKS DOWN ON ILLEGAL OPERATIONS
In a surprise move earlier today, Hon. Ayuba Umbugadu SA on NGOs to His Excellency, Engr. A. A. Sule, Executive Governor of Nasarawa state, stormed the Office of the Director on Political and Cabinet Affairs at the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Office in Lafia, where he unveiled a major plan to sanitize the operations of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) across Nasarawa State.
During the unscheduled visit, Hon. Umbugadu expressed deep concern over the proliferation of illegal NGOs operating in the state, many of which he alleged were engaging in suspicious activities without proper government oversight. He announced an immediate revalidation exercise aimed at identifying, documenting, and regulating all NGOs to ensure compliance with state laws.
"We can no longer tolerate a situation where NGOs operate in secrecy, without proper registration or accountability to the government," Hon. Umbugadu declared. "This revalidation process will separate genuine organizations committed to development from those with hidden agendas exploiting our people."
All NGOs operating in Nasarawa must undergo fresh verification to confirm their legitimacy.
Unregistered NGOs will face sanctions, and legal action.
The state government will establish stricter oversight mechanisms to track NGO activities.
