Nigeria Unveils Bold Social Transformation Blueprint at Global Summit in Doha

***as minister Imaan reaffirms commitment to inclusive growth, women’s empowerment, and digital equity

Doha, Qatar — November 5, 2025:

Nigeria has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to inclusive social development and people-centered governance at the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD) held in Doha, Qatar.

Delivering the country statement on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, in a statement by her Special Adviser, Media & Publicity, Mr Jonathan Eze, declared that Nigeria is implementing transformative policies designed to expand opportunity, reduce poverty, and strengthen national cohesion.

“Nigeria fully aligns with the statement delivered on behalf of the African Group. Our vision for social development is guided by the Nigeria Agenda 2050 and anchored on the priorities of the Renewed Hope Agenda — focusing on people-centered governance, poverty eradication, human capital development, and inclusive growth,” the Minister stated.

She highlighted the establishment of Regional Development Ministries and Agencies across all six geopolitical zones to drive balanced territorial development, alongside Ward Development Initiatives aimed at ensuring no community is left behind.

Among the flagship reforms, the Minister announced the institutionalization of the National Social Investment Programmes through a standalone agency, with millions of Nigerians benefiting from conditional cash transfers, youth employment schemes, school feeding programmes, and enterprise support. These interventions, she said, are “triggering multidimensional prosperity anchored on a National Social Register.”

In what she described as a “major leap toward efficient service delivery,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim revealed that Nigeria has launched an enhanced National Digital Identity Portal to promote governance efficiency, social inclusion, and transparency. The initiative, she said, “ensures access to public services, ease of travel, and targeted social protection delivery.”

Highlighting youth empowerment as a central pillar of the administration’s vision, the Minister noted that the Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) and the Creative Economy Development Fund (CEDF) are unleashing innovation among young Nigerians, particularly women, while boosting investment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and STEM education.

She further disclosed that the government is adopting a lifespan approach to social development, including the introduction of Universal Child Grants, establishment of a National Council for Social Work, and the implementation of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition Act, 2018 through the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities.

Under the Renewed Hope Social Impact Intervention 774 (RH-SII774), Nigeria aims to empower over 10 million women in five years, strengthen family systems, and institutionalize care structures through comprehensive social workforce reforms.

The Minister emphasized that the government is also scaling investments in primary healthcare, maternal and child health, early education, and clean energy access, while tackling climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.

“In Nigeria, inclusive social development is not an aspiration but an obligation,” she declared. “It demands shared responsibility, political will, and renewed multilateral cooperation.”

Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to the Doha Political Declaration and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Sulaiman-Ibrahim called for stronger global solidarity to ensure that “every woman, every child, and every family thrives in dignity.”

The Minister concluded by urging nations to uphold social protection as a universal right, and to measure progress not merely by economic growth, but by “human resilience, gender equality, and collective well-being.”

Lafia Central Has Never Had A Representative Like Hon. Solomon Akwashiki

By Surajo Daheer Mu'azu, Lafia
***
Regardless of our religion, tribe, and background, we must recognize and appreciate the good in others. In the political history of Lafia Central in Nasarawa State, Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akawashiki stands out as a truly exceptional leader, different in every aspect of politics.

Let us put aside our personal sentiments and speak the truth before God. Many of our people were privileged to hold elective positions before him, yet very few utilized those opportunities meaningfully. Today, however, the story is different. History will remember Hon. Akawashiki as a man who touched and shaped countless lives without regard for background, tribe, or social status.

He has never discriminated among his loyalists; his heart remains pure and open to all. I can proudly say that I have been well trained and mentored by him. His political ideology is unique and people-centered. Lafia Central has never had a representative as dedicated, committed, and compassionate as Hon. Solomon Akawashiki. His quality representation and devotion to the welfare of his constituents remain unmatched.

Every day, Hon. Akawashiki receives not less than thirty to forty visitors, each with different appeals and requests. While some members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly may spend an entire week without meeting any visitors, his case is different. He has never turned his back on the people.

He is a true leader who believes deeply in building the younger generation. He has shaped the lives of many by ensuring that we are given opportunities to grow, serve, and excel, without considering our background or status.

Our people must continue to support and elect leaders with a genuine passion for development and youth empowerment, leaders who prioritize the people’s interests above their own.

We sincerely thank you, Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki (Mr. Project), for your tireless efforts, commitment, and the many ways you have impacted our lives. We pray that by the mercy of God, we shall all celebrate victory together come 2027.

Tinubu seeks n'assembly's approval to borrow N1.15trn to fund 2025 budget deficit

President Bola Tinubu has asked the national assembly to approve a N1.15 trillion domestic borrowing programme to fund the 2025 budget deficit.

The request, contained in a letter addressed to the president of the senate, said the gap was created by an increase in the size of the budget beyond earlier approved revenue and borrowing plans.

According to the president, the request is made pursuant to Section 44 (1–2) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) 2007, which mandates the approval of the national assembly for all new borrowings by the federal government.

“I write to kindly request for the approval of the national assembly to establish a N1,150,000,000 borrowing programme in the domestic debt market to close the unfunded deficit gap created by the increase in the budget size over and above the prior approved revenue and borrowing plans,” the letter reads.

“The distinguished president of the senate may wish to note that the national assembly passed a budget of N59.9 trillion, an increase of N5.25 trillion from the N49.74 trillion budget proposal by the executive.

“This increase created a budget deficit of N14 trillion.”

He said the proposed borrowing approved in the budget was N12.95 trillion, which occasioned an unfunded deficit of N1.1 trillion.

“It is therefore necessary to increase the domestic borrowing limit in the 2025 budget by N1.147 trillion to close this gap,” Tinubu said.
