GIFTS ARE GIVEN FOR SERVICE NOT COMPERISON
Regardless of concurrence, it is noteworthy that comparison is considered an imprudent exercise in light of scriptural texts.
The Bible teaches that comparing ourselves to others and striving to be seen as more competent than others can lead to pride, envy, and unhappiness. Jesus teaches in Matthew 20:16 that "So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen." This means that in God's eyes, it is not about how competent we are compared to others, but rather our character and our willingness to serve others.
In 2 Corinthians 10:12, Paul writes "We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise." This verse highlights the danger of the game of comparison and how it leads to foolishness.
Instead, the Bible teaches that we should focus on using the gifts and talents God has given us to serve others and bring glory to God. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 states, "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work." This means that all of our talents and abilities come from God and should be used to serve others, not to compete with them.
Finally, I want to summit to us that the Bible warns against playing the game of competence and comparison and instead encourages a focus on serving others with the gifts God has given us.
