LEYTA CLARIFIES EDU SOLAR MINI-GRID REPORT, COMMENDS ENGR. KAWU AGAKA, DEMANDS IMMEDIATE COMMUNITY CONNECTION
The Lafiagi Emirate Youth Transparent Association, LEYTA, has reacted to a report JUST EVENT ONLINE which claimed that “every household and resident business” in Edu Local Government Area has enjoyed one year of uninterrupted electricity supply through the solar-powered mini-grid project.
The mini-grid was initiated by Engineer Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu Agaka.
In a statement, LEYTA commended Engr. Kawu Agaka for conceiving and constructing the project, describing it as a bold step and proof of what decentralised renewable energy can achieve for communities battling unreliable power supply.
However, the association says the claim that every household, business, and government organisation in Edu LGA is currently benefiting from the mini-grid is not factual.
According to LEYTA, one year after commissioning, the mini-grid has not yet been connected to households, businesses, schools, or health facilities in the communities it was designed to serve.
The association says the clarification is not meant to discredit the initiative, but to ensure residents are given accurate information.
LEYTA is now calling on the project team, community leaders, and other stakeholders to fast-track the connection of homes, shops, health centres, and schools to the grid — stressing that this is when residents will truly feel the project’s impact.
The group also urged media organisations to verify claims of community-wide impact with residents before publication, describing accurate reporting as essential for development projects that shape public expectations.
LEYTA says it remains committed to supporting genuine development efforts in Edu LGA, and thanked Engr. Agaka for taking the first step — while calling for the project to be expanded to reach every part of the local government area.
