Human rights lawyer and activist Maxwell Opara has strongly condemned the Nigerian government over its handling of the ongoing protests demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Speaking during an interview on TV Platinum, Opara faulted the use of force by security operatives and urged authorities to engage with citizens through dialogue rather than intimidation.

He expressed deep frustration at the government’s disregard for the people’s suffering and the continued oppression of peaceful demonstrators. According to him, citizens have the right to express themselves without fear of violence or persecution. It was during his emotional statement that Opara declared, “You can kill all of us, no problem. Highest after 4 years, another president will come.”

Opara’s remark, he explained, symbolized the growing anger among Nigerians who feel abandoned by those in power. He said the people were no longer afraid to speak truth to authority, insisting that no government could silence an entire nation demanding justice and fairness. The lawyer emphasized that Nigerians have suffered from bad governance, corruption, and economic hardship for too long, and that the government must take responsibility instead of blaming or attacking its citizens.

He accused security agencies of acting against their constitutional duty by brutalizing peaceful protesters and shielding corrupt leaders. Opara also criticized the judiciary, saying many judges and lawyers have failed to stand for truth, thereby allowing injustice to persist in the country. He urged President Bola Tinubu to listen to the voice of the people, warning that oppression would only lead to greater unrest if not addressed.

BREAKING NEWS: Finland Court Frees Simon Ekpa, Awards Him $50,000 Compensation After Nigerian Government Fails to Appear

The Finnish court has officially released Biafran activist Simon Ekpa after the Nigerian government failed to appear in court to substantiate its allegations against him.

According to the court ruling, Ekpa’s detention was declared “unlawful and politically motivated,” and he was awarded $50,000 in compensation for the illegal imprisonment.

Speaking after the verdict, the presiding judge reportedly stated:

“Simon Ekpa is a free man under Finnish law. He has every right to express his views and defend the interests of his people, as long as he operates within legal boundaries.”

Simon Ekpa, in his remarks shortly after his release, said:

“They tried to silence me, but truth cannot be imprisoned. This victory is not mine alone—it belongs to the people of Biafra and everyone fighting for justice.”

Surulere was once the most prominent urban slum in Nigeria until Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe was appointed the Minister of Lands, Surveys, and Natural Resources in January 1954.

He was one of 12 Nigerian ministers in the colonial Council of Ministers in Lagos under the Macpherson constitution arrangement. There were four Ministers from each of the three major parties at the time -NCNC, AG and NPC. The Council was headed by the Governor-General of Nigeria at the time; Sir John Stuart Macpherson and contained five other British ex-officio members.

Mbadiwe convinced the Council that he can clear the unsightly slums in Lagos mainland within his one year tenure. The AG opposed it and staged massive protests which failed to make the Council withdraw the consent already given to Mbadiwe.

He started the Surulere housing estate and within 12 months, he cleared the slums and rehoused all the slum dwellers in the newly built Surulere housing estate. Just like Gwarinpa estate in Abuja, the housing estate started attracting massive developments around the Surulere area.

No minister or governor has been able to replicate this feat in the history of Lagos as the federal capital and now a state in Nigeria.

The man that seized Lagos a few years after forfeiting $460,000 suspected drug money to the American government knows that no level of ethnic politics will erase this history.

The likes of Mbadiwe will always be remembered for their unequalled contributions to the making of Lagos.
