You can have a skill and still struggle to make money from it.

Why?

Because having the skill is only the beginning.

You also need to know how to:

✨ Position yourself
✨ Package your service
✨ Create a portfolio
✨ Find the right people
✨ Communicate your value
✨ Ask for the opportunity

For example, knowing how to design with Canva is great.

But being able to say:

“I create promotional designs that help small businesses present their products professionally online.”

sounds completely different.

That's the difference between “I know how to do it” and “I can solve a problem for you.”

So tonight, I have a challenge for you:

📌 Pick ONE skill you have.

Then complete this:

“I help _________ achieve _________ by using my skill in _________.”

Don't overthink it.

A QUICK FRIDAY CHALLENGE FOR YOU!

Open your phone notes and complete this sentence:

“I can help ________ to ________.”

Don't write a job title.
Write a problem you can solve.

For example:

👩🏽‍🏫 I can help teachers create engaging digital learning materials.

📱 I can help small businesses create content for their social media pages.

💻 I can help busy professionals organise their schedules and tasks.

🎨 I can help businesses create simple promotional designs.

This simple exercise can help you start seeing your skills differently.

Because when you know who you can help + what problem you can solve, it becomes easier to:

✅ Create your portfolio
✅ Write your bio
✅ Apply for jobs
✅ Offer your services
✅ Create content that attracts the right people

Your skill becomes more valuable when you can clearly communicate the value you bring. 💚

FRIDAY REALITY CHECK!

A certificate alone won't change your life.

Knowing how to use a skill is good…

But knowing how to USE that skill to solve a problem for someone is where the real opportunity lies.

For example:

You don't just say:
❌ “I know Canva.”

Say:
✅ “I can create professional flyers and social media graphics for businesses.”

You don't just say:
❌ “I know AI.”

Say:
✅ “I can use AI to help businesses create content faster.”

You don't just say:
❌ “I'm a teacher.”

Say:
✅ “I can create digital learning resources and teach learners online.”

See the difference?

People don't only pay for what you know.

They pay for the problem you can help them solve.

So this Friday, ask yourself:

👉🏽 What problem can my skill solve?

Once you can answer that clearly, you're one step closer to turning your skill into an income stream.

What if the skill you're currently learning becomes the reason you earn more next year? 🤔

You are a facilitator.
You know how to work with people.
You know how to manage time and responsibilities.

These are transferable skills.

The digital world simply gives you more ways to use them.

So instead of asking:

❌ “What can I do apart from teaching?”

Start asking:

✅ “How can I package the skills I already have for the digital world?”

Your next opportunity may not require you to start from zero.

It may simply require you to see the value in what you already know—and learn how to present it.

You don't have to remain exactly where you are today.

If you want to learn a new skill, start.

If you want to create digital products, start.

If you want to build your personal brand, start.

You may not have all the knowledge, equipment or confidence yet.

That's okay.

You can learn as you go.

The biggest mistake is waiting until you feel completely ready.

Sometimes, you become ready by starting.

So tonight, choose ONE thing you want to improve before the end of this year and write it down.

TEACHERS, YOUR CV IS NOT THE ONLY THING YOU NEED WHEN APPLYING FOR ONLINE TEACHING JOBS.

You also need proof of what you can do.

Imagine applying for an online teaching job and being able to show:

📌 A lesson presentation you created
📌 A digital worksheet
📌 A Google Form quiz
📌 A short teaching video
📌 An e-book or learning resource
📌 A sample lesson plan
📌 A screenshot of your online classroom

That collection is your digital teaching portfolio.

And here's something you can start TODAY:

Create your first portfolio folder.

Go to Google Drive and create a folder called:

📁 MY DIGITAL TEACHING PORTFOLIO

Inside it, create:

📂 Lesson Resources
📂 Worksheets
📂 Assessments
📂 Teaching Videos
📂 Certificates
📂 Online Teaching Experience

You don't need 50 resources.

Start with 3–5 really good samples.

As you create more digital teaching materials, keep adding them.

Because when an opportunity comes, you won't have to say:

❌ “I can do it.”

You'll be able to say:

✅ “Here is what I've created.”

That's a much stronger position to be in.

TEACHER, YOUR LESSON NOTES CAN BECOME MORE THAN JUST LESSON NOTES.

Have you ever thought about turning one lesson you have already created into 5 different digital resources?

Let me show you how:

ONE LESSON TOPIC → 5 DIGITAL PRODUCTS

For example, your topic is “Parts of a Plant.”

From ONE lesson, you can create:

1️⃣ A PowerPoint/Canva presentation
Turn your lesson points into attractive teaching slides.

2️⃣ A printable worksheet
Create activities learners can complete after the lesson.

3️⃣ A quiz
Use Google Forms, Kahoot or Quizizz to test understanding.

4️⃣ A revision sheet
Summarise the key points for learners to study later.

5️⃣ An educational video
Explain the topic in a short, simple video for learners.

And here is the important part:

You don't always have to start from scratch.

Repurpose what you already know.

TEACHER, YOUR PHONE CAN DO MORE THAN YOU THINK.

You don't need an expensive laptop or sophisticated equipment to start becoming a digital teacher.

If you have a smartphone, you can already start learning to:

📌 Create professional teaching materials with Canva
📌 Generate lesson ideas and questions with AI
📌 Create quizzes with Google Forms
📌 Record your teaching demonstrations with Loom or your phone
📌 Build a simple teaching portfolio
📌 Create educational content for social media
📌 Teach learners online

The mistake many teachers make is waiting until they have “everything” before they start.

You don't need everything.

Start with what you have. Learn one tool at a time. Practise. Then build from there.

Today's mini-task:

Open Canva and create ONE simple educational resource for a topic you teach.

Don't worry about making it perfect.

Just start.

Because digital skills aren't built by watching other people use the tools.

They're built by using the tools yourself.
