The Tai First Lady, Lady Dr. Winnie okpe, wife of the Executive Chairman of Tai Local Government Area, Sir Hon. Mbakpone Friday Okpe, PhD, DSSRS, led a cross-section of Tai women in a solemn prayer and fasting session to commemorate the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration.
The spiritual gathering became necessary following the passing of the revered leader of Tai LGA, Senator Barry Mpigi, whose death has left the people of Tai and associates in deep mourning and sober reflection.
Addressing the women, the First Lady expressed profound appreciation to the women stakeholders and members of the women wing for their swift response to the call for prayer and fasting during this difficult period. She urged them to remain committed, steadfast, and prayerful as the community continues to grieve the loss of their leader.
Lady Dr. Okpe further admonished stakeholders from the various wards to be mindful and guided in selecting participants for such spiritual gatherings. She emphasized that individuals invited should be spiritually prepared and aligned with the purpose of the prayer meetings, especially as the initiative is expected to become a monthly spiritual exercise for the women of Tai.
The session served as a moment of collective reflection and supplication as prayers were offered for the repose of the late Senator, the comfort of the Mpigi family, and the continued success of the administration and leadership of Dr. Mbakpone Friday Okpe. The women also prayed fervently for peace and stability in Tai, Rivers State, and Nigeria, while committing the development and progress of the Federal University of Environment and Technology into God’s hands.
While extending appreciation to the Executive Chairman, the First Lady reaffirmed her husband’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of women and his inclusive approach in integrating women into the governance and developmental activities of the administration.
At the end of the prayer and fasting session held at the Gbenemene Gininwa Hall, Lady Dr. Winnie Okpe led a cross-section of the women on a condolence visit to the Mpigi family to further express their solidarity and support during this period of mourning.
