First of all, What is the Purpose of Filing a Petition?
The purpose of filing a petition in law is to formally request a court or other government body to take a specific action or make a particular decision. A petition can be filed by an individual, group, or organization seeking legal relief, redress, or intervention in a specific matter.
1. All petitions to the EFCC must be addressed to “The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission” followed by the address – 5, Fomella Street, off Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja.
If the petition to the EFCC will be submitted at any of the 9 zonal offices, then the petition would be addressed as ‘Through the Head of Operations (insert zone)”.
2. Choose a heading/title which adequately summarises why you are writing the petition. For instance – ‘PETITION AGAINST MR A. MUSA FOR DEFRAUDING MR. B. BAMISHE OF THE SUM OF 2 MILLION NAIRA’.
A petition to the EFCC is a serious matter, and it should not be taken or used lightly. 3. Only write a petition when there has been a genuine fraudulent act perpetrated on you or your company, and you should always provide evidence. Attach all relevant evidence to the petition which could include receipts, photos, documents, numbers etc.
4. All petitions must be written, dated and signed by the petitioner (YOU). This is so that the EFCC know who is making the petition, and can follow up with the petitioner to get more information or clarification.
Petitions may be submitted at zonal offices, the head office, or even by email to the EFCC.
5. After writing your Petition, it is always advisable you show it to a lawyer to go through it and help you make corrections or you pay a lawyer to help you write it, while you print it out and submit it yourself.
Pls Share this post because many does not even know that they can write a petition by their Self for FREE and submit it too.
