Rivers ADC Governorship Candidate, Pidomson Visits Omuoko-Aluu After Arson Attack on Party Chieftain
The Rivers State ADC Governorship Candidate, Dr. Gabriel Pidomson, has visited Omuoko Community in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area, following an alleged arson attack on an ADC chieftain, Mr. Isaiah Thomas.
Thomas, the Chief Whip of the ADC in Ikwerre LGA and Alternate Leader of the party in Aluu, reportedly hosted ADC supporters at his residence on Tuesday morning. The meeting ended peacefully at noon.
In a statement posted by Ledogu Raymond, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the ADC governorship candidate, eyewitnesses alleged that operatives of the Ikwerre OSPAC security outfit stormed the compound later that night. The operatives were allegedly led by the OSPAC commander, Mr. Kingsley Wali, who also serves as the Chief Security Officer of the Ikwerre Local Government Council.
According to the eyewitnesses, the operatives allegedly destroyed properties, assaulted parents and tenants, looted valuables and set fire to the building occupied by Thomas, his family and tenants.
Dr. Pidomson, who was on his way out of the state for an official engagement, stopped at the scene to assess the damage and express solidarity with the victims. He subsequently lodged a formal complaint at the Aluu Division of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Abdulsalam Modu, later conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the scene alongside the ADC Rivers State Chairman, Chief Engr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, and other party officials.
Pidomson condemned the alleged attack and vowed to pursue the matter through every legitimate legal and constitutional means until justice is served.
He also questioned the operation of the OSPAC security outfit in Ikwerre LGA and called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.
The ADC governorship candidate stressed that violence, intimidation and destruction of property have no place in a democratic society.
