BEHIND HER BACK 🌹 04
An hour later, Linda finally arrived at the office. She walked in, looking slightly flustered.

Amara called her in immediately.

“You’re late,” Amara said coolly. “Everything okay?”

Linda shifted on her feet. “Yes, ma. Just some personal matters.”

Amara studied her carefully. “Is this about why you’re taking Friday off?”

Linda hesitated. “Yes, ma.”

Something in her tone made Amara feel uneasy.

She was about to ask more questions when Cynthia knocked and entered. “Ma, the investors are on the line.”

Amara sighed. “We’ll talk later, Linda.”

Linda nodded quickly and left.
**************************
That night, Amara got home earlier than usual.

Zara was doing her homework at the dining table, and David was in the living room, watching TV.

“Hey, love,” David said, standing up to hug her. “You’re early.”

“Meetings ended early,” she said, kissing his cheek. “How was your day?”

David stretched. “Busy. But good.”

Amara glanced at his phone on the couch. The screen lit up for a second before going dark.

She wanted to ignore it. She really did.

But something inside her wouldn’t let it go.

“David,” she said slowly. “Where were you this afternoon?”

David blinked, caught off guard. “What do you mean?”

“I mean… were you at a restaurant?”

David frowned, then let out a small laugh. “Oh. Yeah, I met up with a colleague.”

Amara forced a smile. “Who?”

David hesitated, just for a second.

But she noticed.

“Uh… Tunde, from work,” he said quickly.

Amara nodded. “Okay.”

David kissed her forehead. “Why? You checking up on me?”

She laughed lightly. “Of course not.”

He grinned. “Good. Because you know you’re the only woman in my life.”

Amara smiled. “I know.”

" Are you okay? David asked with concern.

" Yeah.. I'm fine"

" You sure?

" Yeah, I will just go freshen up and join you guys"

David nodded his head and Amara made her way to the stairs.
********************************
The day had barely started when Cynthia walked into Amara’s office, clutching an envelope in her hands. Amara barely glanced up from her laptop, expecting the usual morning briefing.

“Ma,” Cynthia said quietly.

Something in her tone made Amara look up. Cynthia was standing stiffly, her fingers gripping the envelope as though she was gathering courage.

“What is it?” Amara asked, setting her pen down.

Cynthia inhaled deeply before extending the envelope toward her. “It’s my resignation letter.”

For a moment, Amara didn’t move. The words didn’t register.

Then she frowned, slowly taking the envelope and placing it on her desk without opening it.

“Cynthia, what are you talking about?” she asked, her voice controlled.

Cynthia lowered her gaze. “I’m leaving the country. My husband has finalized our relocation, and I’ll be joining him abroad.”

Silence.

Amara leaned back in her chair, arms folded across her chest. “Why am I just hearing about this now?”

“I only got confirmation recently,” Cynthia said softly. “I didn’t want to say anything until everything was set.”

Amara let out a slow breath, tapping her fingers on the desk. She wasn’t just Cynthia’s boss—she trusted her. Cynthia had been with her for years, handling the most confidential matters of both her business and personal life. Losing her felt like losing a piece of her structure.

Her first instinct was to convince her to stay.

“Cynthia, I don’t want you to go,” Amara admitted, her voice unusually vulnerable. “You are the best assistant I’ve ever had. I don’t think I can find someone as efficient and trustworthy as you.”

Cynthia’s eyes softened, but she shook her head. “I know, ma. And I appreciate everything you’ve done for me. But this is important for my family. I can’t stay.”

Amara looked away, swallowing the lump in her throat. She had built her company from scratch, overcome difficult challenges, but this? This felt personal.

She exhaled. “How much time do I have?”

“I can serve a two-week notice,” Cynthia replied.

Amara nodded slowly. “Alright. But know this—you’ll be deeply missed.”

Cynthia smiled faintly. “Thank you, ma. I’ll do my best to make the transition smooth before I leave.”

Amara waved her off. “Go. I need time to process this.”

Cynthia gave her one last look before quietly leaving the office.

As soon as the door closed, Amara buried her face in her hands.

Cynthia was leaving.

And for the first time in a long while, Amara felt unprepared.
**************************
By afternoon, the reality of Cynthia’s departure had fully settled in. Amara knew she couldn’t afford to dwell on her emotions—she needed a replacement, and she needed one fast.

She pressed the intercom. “Linda, call the HR Manager. I need to see him immediately.”

A few minutes later, Mr. Ojo, the company’s HR Manager, walked in. He was a middle-aged man with sharp eyes and an air of efficiency.

“Good afternoon, ma,” he greeted.

Amara gestured for him to sit. “Cynthia is leaving in two weeks.”

Mr. Ojo blinked. “Oh. I wasn’t aware.”

“She just told me this morning,” Amara said. “I need a new personal assistant, and I need one immediately. Someone highly competent and trustworthy.”

Mr. Ojo nodded, already making notes. “I’ll shortlist some candidates and send you their profiles by tomorrow.”

“I don’t want just anyone,” Amara stressed. “The person must be extremely organized, skilled in handling confidential matters, and must understand how I work. Cynthia was irreplaceable, but I need someone close to her level.”

“I understand, ma. I’ll ensure we get the best fit.”

Amara exhaled, nodding. “Good. Get on it as soon as possible.”

Mr. Ojo stood. “I’ll keep you updated, ma.”

As he left, Amara stared at her desk, suddenly feeling drained.

She hated change.

And this one was coming at her too fast.
---__________________________________________
That night, Amara sat in the living room, absently scrolling through her emails while Zara worked on her homework at the dining table. David was stretched out on the couch, flipping through TV channels.

Amara turned to him. “Cynthia resigned today.”

David barely reacted. “Oh? Why?”

“She’s joining her husband abroad.”

David shrugged. “Makes sense. You knew she’d leave eventually.”

Amara frowned. “No, I didn’t. She never mentioned it before.”

David chuckled. “Well, maybe she didn’t want to stress you until it was certain.”

Amara pursed her lips, feeling strangely irritated by his casual tone. Was it that easy for him to dismiss Cynthia’s departure?

“I’ll miss her,” Amara muttered.

David glanced at her. “She was just your assistant, babe. You’ll find another one.”

“She wasn’t just my assistant,” Amara said sharply. “She was the best at what she did.”

David held up his hands. “Alright, alright. I’m just saying—don’t stress over it. You’ll manage.”

Amara didn’t respond. Instead, she turned her attention back to Zara.

“Mummy, why do you look sad?” Zara asked, looking up from her homework.

Amara forced a smile. “I’m just tired, sweetheart.”

Zara tilted her head. “Did something happen at work?”

Amara chuckled. “You’re too smart for your age.”

Zara grinned. “I know.”

Amara sighed. “My personal assistant is leaving. I’ll miss her.”

“Why is she leaving?”

“She’s joining her husband abroad.”

Zara frowned. “So she won’t work with you anymore?”

“No, baby.”

Zara thought for a moment. “Can I be your new assistant?”

Amara laughed, pulling her daughter into a hug. “Oh, my love. You’re already the best assistant I have at home.”

Zara giggled, wrapping her arms around her mother’s neck.

For a moment, Amara let herself relax.

But deep down, she knew Cynthia’s resignation wasn’t just about losing an employee.

It felt like a shift.

Like something bigger was coming.

BEHIND HER BACK 🌹 03
The weeks rolled by, and life at Amari Group remained as fast-paced as ever. Amara was busier than usual, juggling multiple real estate projects, board meetings, and investor negotiations. Despite the long hours, she loved every bit of it. She had worked hard to build her company, and she wasn’t slowing down anytime soon.

At home, things were just as steady. David remained the loving, attentive husband, and Zara continued to bring joy to their lives with her endless stories and school activities. Everything seemed normal—perfect, even.
*************************
Amara stepped out of the closet, adjusting her earrings as she glanced at the clock. She had an important board meeting that morning, and she didn’t want to be late.

David was still in bed, scrolling through his phone.

She leaned down and kissed his forehead. “Aren’t you going to work today?”

He glanced up, flashing her a lazy smile. “I’ll go in a bit."

Amara nodded and grabbed her bag. “Alright, I’m off. See you later.”

As she left, she caught a glimpse of his phone screen—a message notification disappearing before she could read it.
" I love you" David said after her.

" I love you too"
*****************************
Amara walked into Amari Group headquarters, immediately met by Cynthia, her ever-efficient P.A.

“Good morning, ma,” Cynthia greeted, falling into step beside her.

“Morning, Cynthia. Updates?”

“The legal team finalized the documents for the new estate deal, and the marketing team wants your approval on the ad campaign. Also, the investors are requesting a follow-up meeting next week.”

Amara nodded. “Schedule the meeting for Wednesday. And I’ll review the campaign after lunch.”

“Yes, ma.”

As they reached her office, Cynthia hesitated. “Also… Linda asked to see you. She said it’s urgent.”

Amara frowned slightly. “Did she say what it was about?”

“No, ma. Just that it’s important.”

Amara sighed. “Alright, send her in.”

Cynthia nodded and left. Moments later, Linda walked in, looking a little nervous.
“Good morning, ma,” Linda said, offering a small smile.

“Morning, Linda. What’s urgent?”

Linda hesitated, biting her lip. “I was wondering if I could take Friday off. Just for a personal matter.”

Amara raised an eyebrow. Linda rarely asked for time off. “Everything okay?”

“Yes, ma. Just something I need to take care of.”

Amara studied her for a moment before nodding. “Alright. Make sure everything is in order before you leave.”

Linda’s face lit up with relief. “Thank you, ma.”

As Linda left, Amara shook her head.
**************************
Later that afternoon, Amara met Chioma for lunch at their usual spot.

Chioma stirred her drink, watching Amara closely. “You seem tired.”

Amara sighed, rubbing her temples. “I am. Work has been crazy.”

Chioma smirked. “And home?”

Amara chuckled. “Home is fine. Same old, same old.”

Chioma leaned forward. “You still think David is the perfect husband?”

Amara rolled her eyes. “Chioma—”

“I’m just asking,” Chioma interrupted, raising her hands in defense."

“Yes, I do,” Amara said firmly. “David has never given me a reason to doubt him.”

Chioma tilted her head. “Good. I hope it stays that way.”

Amara frowned. “Why do I feel like you know something I don’t?”

Chioma smiled, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. “I just know that nothing is ever as perfect as it seems.”

Before Amara could respond, her phone buzzed with a message.

It was from Cynthia.

Cynthia: Ma, Mr. David just called. He wants to take you out to dinner tonight.

Amara smiled, showing Chioma. “See? He’s still the man I married.”

Chioma glanced at the message, then back at Amara. “I hope you’re right.”

" I'm right. Stop worrying about me and my marriage. It's been 10 years and we are perfectly fine"

" If you say so"
******************************************
That evening, Amara met David at an upscale restaurant. He had already reserved a private table, and the ambiance was warm and inviting.

“You look stunning,” David said as she sat down.

She smiled. “Flattery will get you anywhere.”

David chuckled, reaching for her hand. “I just wanted to spend some time with my beautiful wife. You’ve been so busy lately.”

Amara squeezed his hand. " I'm sorry"

The dinner was perfect—delicious food, laughter, and light conversation. But as they talked, something nagged at the back of Amara’s mind.

David’s phone was face-down on the table.

He never did that.

And when it buzzed, his smile faltered just slightly before he flipped it over, ignoring the notification.

Amara noticed.

She said nothing.

But for the first time, a seed of doubt was planted.
****************†***************
Amara woke up feeling restless. The dinner with David had been wonderful, yet something about the way he guarded his phone stuck with her. She wasn’t the kind of woman to snoop—David had never given her a reason to—but for the first time in years, she felt something was… off.

She pushed the thought aside as she got ready for the day. She had a packed schedule ahead, and the last thing she needed was unnecessary distractions.

At the office, Amara was already reviewing documents when Cynthia walked in.

“Ma, the real estate development team is waiting for your approval on the new project designs.”

Amara nodded. “Set up a meeting for noon.”

Cynthia hesitated. “Also, Linda isn’t in yet. She called in to say she’ll be a little late.”

Amara frowned slightly. Linda was always punctual. “Did she say why?”

“No, ma. Just that she’ll be in soon.”

Amara sighed. “Alright. Let me know when she arrives.”

Something about Linda’s recent behavior seemed unusual. First, the sudden request for Friday off. Now, she was coming in late.

Coincidence? Maybe. But Amara had always trusted her instincts.

And right now, something didn’t feel right.
.
********************************************************
By lunchtime, Amara was mentally exhausted. She had spent the morning in back-to-back meetings and was ready for a break. Just as she was about to take a moment for herself, her phone rang.

It was Chioma.

Amara sighed, picking up. “Madam lawyer, what is it this time?”

Chioma chuckled. “You sound stressed.”

“Because I am,” Amara muttered. “What’s up?”

There was a brief silence before Chioma spoke. “Are you sure everything is fine at home?”

Amara’s brow furrowed. “Chioma, what is this about?”

Chioma sighed. “I don’t want to plant doubts in your head, but I heard something.”

Amara sat up. “Heard what?”

“A friend of mine mentioned seeing David at a restaurant two nights ago.”

Amara relaxed. “That was me. We went out for dinner.”

Chioma was silent for a moment. “This was during the day, Amara.”

A cold feeling spread in Amara’s chest. “So? He has meetings too, Chioma.”

“I know. But my friend said he wasn’t alone.”

Amara’s fingers tightened around her phone. “Who was he with?”

“I don’t know. But the way they were talking… it wasn’t business.”

Amara let out a short laugh, trying to push away the unease creeping in. “Chioma, you’re reading too much into things. David loves me. He worships me.”

Chioma sighed. “I know he does, but that doesn’t mean—”

“Enough, Chioma,” Amara snapped, surprising even herself.

There was a long silence.

Finally, Chioma said, “Alright. But if you ever feel something is wrong, don’t ignore it.”

Amara swallowed. “I won’t. But there’s nothing wrong.”

She ended the call, but the seed of doubt in her mind had just grown deeper roots.

BEHIND HER BACK 🌹 02
The driver drove Amara back into the compound. It's quite late. She sighed in relief as she stepped out of her car.

The moment she opened the door, a small figure came dashing toward her.

“Mummy, you’re home!”

Amara laughed, scooping Zara into her arms. “Yes, my love. You are still awake?

“ yes mum. Daddy and I finished my solar system project!”

Amara glanced at David, who was lounging on the couch, smiling.

“She’s a little scientist,” he said.

Amara wrapped her arms around his waist. “And you’re the best dad.. I'm sorry I'm quite late today"

He kissed her forehead. “And you’re the best mum.”

Zara giggled, watching them. “You two are always acting like lovebirds.”

David chuckled, lifting Zara onto his shoulders. “Because we are.”

Dinner was already set on the dining table—steaming jollof rice with grilled chicken, garnished with fresh vegetables.

Amara turned to David with a smile. “You cooked?”

David shook his head. “I wish. I ordered from Mama Nkechi’s place.”

She laughed, shaking her head. “Still, you thought about it.”

They sat together, eating, talking, and laughing.

Amara found herself watching David closely—his easy smile, the way he listened to Zara with full attention, the way he occasionally reached for her hand.

He was her best friend. Her rock.

As the meal ended, Zara stretched and yawned. “Mummy, can I sleep in your bed tonight?”

David raised a brow. “Again? You’re a big girl now.”

Zara pouted. “Please?”

Amara chuckled. “Alright, just for tonight.”

Zara beamed and ran off to get her pillow.

David began clearing the table while Amara leaned against the kitchen counter, watching him.

She walked over, slipping her arms around his waist from behind. “Thank you for today. For everything.”

He turned, cupping her face in his hands. “Always.”

And as she looked into his eyes, she saw nothing but love.
" I love you David"

He smiled " I will forever love you till my last breathe" he said and their lips locked in a k!SS.
**********************
The sun was already high in the sky when Amara pulled into the company parking lot. The morning had been smooth—David had dropped Zara off at school, and Amara had gone through her usual morning routine before heading to work.

She felt energized, ready to tackle the day’s challenges.

Inside Amari Group, her assistant, Cynthia, was waiting for her at the elevator.

“Good morning, ma,” Cynthia greeted, falling into step beside Amara.

“Morning. Any updates?”

“Yes, ma. The new client from yesterday confirmed their interest in the luxury apartment deal, but they want some modifications.”

Amara nodded as they stepped into the elevator. “Book a meeting for tomorrow morning. What else?”

“The finance team sent over the quarterly reports. Also, your lunch with the investors is still scheduled for today.”

The elevator doors opened, and Amara strode into her office, immediately settling into work mode. She had built this company from scratch, and moments like these reminded her how much effort it took to stay at the top...................... .............................
She was in a meeting when her phone buzzed with a message.

David: Hope your day is going well, my love.

She smiled, quickly typing back.

Amara: Very busy, but good. You?

David: Same here. I’ll pick up Zara from school today. See you later.

She felt a rush of affection for him. He always made sure to check in.
She will forever love him till eternity......................***********......................
Just as Amara was about to leave for her lunch meeting, Cynthia walked in, beaming.

“Ma, someone is here to see you.”

Amara barely glanced up. “Who?”

Cynthia grinned. “Your friend Ma'am Chioma.”

Amara’s head snapped up. “Chioma?”

“Yes, ma"

A huge smile spread across Amara’s face. “Bring her in!”

Moments later, Chioma strolled in, exuding confidence. She wore a fitted navy-blue dress, her makeup flawless, and her heels clicking against the polished floor.

Amara squealed, jumping to her feet. “Chioma! You didn’t tell me you were coming back!”

Chioma laughed, pulling her into a tight hug. “If I told you, it wouldn’t be a surprise.”

Amara pulled back, scanning her friend up and down. “You look amazing! How was London?”

Chioma rolled her eyes playfully. “Cold. Expensive. But great.” She sighed dramatically. “I missed Nigerian food. First thing I did was buy suya.”

Amara laughed, shaking her head. “You haven’t changed.”

They sat down, catching up quickly. Chioma filled her in on her trip, the legal cases she had handled, and the high-profile divorce settlements she had won.

Then she leaned in slightly. “And you? How’s my favorite couple? How’s David?”

Amara smiled. “David is fine. Everything is fine.”

Chioma tilted her head. “That’s all? ‘Everything is fine’?”

Amara frowned slightly. “What else should I say?”

Chioma shrugged. “Nothing, I guess. I just wanted to know if anything has changed.”

Amara studied her friend. “Why would anything change?”

Chioma hesitated, then sighed. “You know, being a divorce lawyer has made me see things differently. I’ve handled so many cases where women thought their marriages were perfect—until they weren’t.”

Amara chuckled. “Chioma, not every man is a cheating, lying husband. David is different.”

Chioma smiled, but there was a flicker of something unreadable in her eyes. “I hope so. But you know what I always say—trust, but verify.”

Amara waved her off playfully. “Please, I don’t need your lawyer paranoia in my marriage.”

Chioma laughed. “Fine, fine. I won’t say anything more. Just promise me that if you ever need my help, you won’t hesitate to call.”

Amara squeezed her hand. “I promise. But trust me, I won’t need it.”

Chioma smiled, but before she could respond, a soft knock interrupted them.

" Come in " Amara said.

The office door swung open, and a young woman stepped in with a confident stride.

“Good afternoon, ma,” she said, flashing a bright smile.

Amara turned to her. “Yes, Linda?”

Linda is her secretary, efficient and always well-dressed. Today, she wore a fitted blouse and pencil skirt, her hair in a neat ponytail. She was young, smart, and ambitious—one of the best hires Amara had made.

“I just wanted to drop off the updated reports for the real estate division,” Linda said, setting a file on the desk. “Also, Mr. David called. He said to remind you that he’s picking up Zara today.”

Amara smiled. “Alright, thank you.”

Linda nodded and turned to leave, but not before glancing at Chioma.

Chioma watched her leave, then turned back to Amara with a curious expression. “That’s your secretary?”

“Yes. She’s been with me for a while now. Why?”

Chioma shrugged. “Nothing. Just observing.”

Amara raised an eyebrow. “You and your lawyer instincts.”

Chioma smirked. “I can’t help it. I see patterns in people.”

“Trust me, there’s nothing to see here.”

Chioma didn’t argue, but she gave Amara a look that made her pause for a brief second.

Then she brushed it off.

Nothing was wrong.*****************†********
By the time Amara got home, Zara was already on the couch watching her favorite cartoon. David sat beside her, laughing at something on the screen.

Amara leaned against the doorway, watching them for a moment.

Her perfect family.

David noticed her and grinned. “Mummy’s home!”

Zara jumped up, running to her. “Mummy, we learned about the solar system today!”

Amara lifted her into a hug. “That’s wonderful, my love.”

David stretched lazily. “Long day?”

She sighed, dropping her bag. “Very. But productive.”

BEHIND HER BACK 🌹 01

Amara adjusted her earrings in front of the mirror, smoothing invisible wrinkles on her emerald-green evening gown. The silk fabric hugged her curves just right, radiating elegance and power—two things she had earned through years of relentless hard work.

At thirty-five, she was at the peak of her career, the CEO of Amari Group, one of the most successful real estate firms in the country. She had built her empire from scratch, working her way up in a male-dominated industry, proving time and time again that she was more than just a pretty face.

And yet, despite all her success, the greatest treasure in her life wasn’t her wealth or influence.

It was her family.

She glanced at the framed wedding photo on her vanity. She and David, fresh out of university, full of dreams, standing in front of a small altar, exchanging vows with love-struck eyes. They had started with nothing, just two ambitious young lovers with big dreams.

Now, years later, they had built something beautiful together—a marriage rooted in love, trust, and unwavering support.

David had always been her biggest cheerleader, the man who celebrated every success as if it were his own. He had pursued architecture while she climbed the corporate ladder, and though her career had skyrocketed beyond his, he had never shown resentment, never made her feel guilty for her achievements.

And Zara—their ten-year-old daughter—was the heart of their world.

Zara was brilliant, fearless, and curious, always asking questions beyond her age. She had her father’s charm and her mother’s resilience, a perfect blend of both of them.

Tonight was special. Their wedding anniversary.

A soft knock at the door pulled Amara from her thoughts.

“Mummy, Daddy says we’re waiting for you!” Zara’s excited voice echoed from the hallway.

Amara smiled, reaching for her clutch. “I’m coming, princess.”

As she stepped out of the bedroom, she saw David standing at the bottom of the staircase, looking up at her with the same admiration he had given her since the day they met.

“You look breathtaking,” he said, his voice full of warmth.

She descended the stairs gracefully, taking his outstretched hand. “And you, Mr. Daniels, look quite handsome yourself.”

He leaned in, pressing a kiss to her cheek. “Ready for our anniversary dinner?”

“Of course,” she said, feeling the familiar comfort of his touch.

Zara came running in, her hair bouncing as she grinned. “Mummy, you look like a princess!”

Amara bent down, kissing her forehead. “And you, my love, are my little princess.”

David wrapped an arm around both of them, his family. His world.

They were the perfect family.

And life was perfect..
*****************
The restaurant was intimate, with dim lighting and soft jazz playing in the background. The air carried the aroma of fine wine and freshly grilled steak.

David reached for Amara’s hand across the table. “Ten years, love. Can you believe it?”

She chuckled, sipping her wine. “Feels like yesterday when you stood at the altar, sweating like a nervous schoolboy.”

David laughed. “You would’ve been nervous too if you were about to marry the most amazing woman in the world.”

She rolled her eyes. “Flattery will get you everywhere, Mr. Daniels.”

“That’s the plan.”

Their laughter blended with the music. It was effortless, the kind of love people envied.

Amara took a deep breath. “I wouldn’t change a thing about our life, David. You and Zara mean everything to me.”

David’s gaze softened. “And you mean everything to me.”

Their fingers intertwined. The moment was perfect.

No distractions. No doubts.

Just love...**********************
It was past Zara’s bedtime when they got home, but she was still awake, curled up on the couch, watching an animated movie.

“Zara,” David called softly. “You should be in bed.”

She pouted. “But I wanted to wait for you and Mummy.”

Amara smiled, lifting her into her arms. “Come on, sleepyhead. Let’s get you to bed.”

Zara wrapped her arms around her mother’s neck, yawning. “Good night, Daddy.”

“Good night, princess.”

Amara carried Zara upstairs, tucking her in and brushing stray hair from her forehead. She leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to her daughter’s temple.

“Good night, my love.”

Zara smiled sleepily. “Good night, Mummy.”

As Amara turned off the lights and stepped out, she felt nothing but peace.

Her husband loved her and her daughter adored her.

Her life was perfect.***************************************************
The city was waking up, and so was Amara.

She stirred slightly, her body still curled under the soft, white duvet. The room was dim, with only faint streaks of sunlight filtering through the curtains.

Slowly, she reached out to the other side of the bed, expecting to feel David’s warm presence beside her.

Empty.

Her eyes fluttered open, and she glanced at the bedside clock. 6:30 AM.

A slow smile crept across her lips. David was up early, as usual.

She stretched lazily, listening to the familiar sounds of home and—the smell of breakfast?

She sat up, her smile widening. Of course.

David always made breakfast when he woke up before her. It was one of the things she loved about him—his thoughtfulness, the way he handled little things without being asked.

Sliding her feet into her indoor slippers, she slipped on her silk robe and made her way out of the bedroom. The house was quiet, save for the distant sound of sizzling oil and clinking dishes.

As she stepped into the kitchen, the sight before her made her heart swell.

David stood by the stove, expertly flipping slices of yam in a frying pan. He wore his usual grey joggers and a white singlet, his back slightly turned as he concentrated on the food.

At the dining table, Zara sat, still in her pajamas, her legs swinging under the chair as she sipped from a steaming cup of Milo.

A warm feeling spread through Amara’s chest. This was home. This was love.

“Mummy!” Zara’s eyes lit up the moment she saw her. “Daddy is making my favorite breakfast!”

Amara chuckled, walking into the kitchen and wrapping her arms around David from behind. “Good morning, my love.”

David turned his head slightly, smiling as he placed a hand over hers. “Good morning, beautiful. Slept well?”

She inhaled his scent—fresh, warm, familiar. “Like a baby.”

Zara beamed. “But I woke up before Daddy today!”

David chuckled. “She was too excited about her school project.”

Amara raised a brow. “School project?”

Zara nodded eagerly. “We’re building a mini solar system! Daddy said he’ll help me finish mine today.”

Amara smiled as she sat at the table. David was an amazing father. No matter how busy he was, he always made time for their daughter.

“Here you go, ladies,” David said, setting down plates of fried yam, eggs, and freshly made pepper sauce.

Zara clapped her hands. “Daddy, you should open a restaurant!”

David laughed. “I’ll think about it.”

Amara picked up her fork, watching the two of them banter as they ate. This was her life. Her family. And she wouldn’t trade it for anything.************************************
The drive to her office was smooth, though the city was already bustling with life. Traders setting up their roadside stalls, yellow buses honking as they navigated traffic, pedestrians weaving their way across busy streets.

By the time she arrived at Amari Group, her assistant, Cynthia, was already waiting for her.

“Good morning, ma,” Cynthia greeted, falling into step beside her as they walked toward the office building.

“Morning, Cynthia. How’s the schedule looking today?”

“Quite packed,” Cynthia said, scrolling through her tablet. “You have a 9 AM strategy meeting, then a property inspection by noon. Also, Mr. Bayo from FirstTrust Bank confirmed lunch at one.”

Amara nodded. “Anything urgent?”

“Just some contract reviews. I placed them on your desk.”

She exhaled, already feeling the weight of the day ahead. But this was what she had worked for. This was what she loved—the thrill of building something from the ground up.

As she stepped into her office, her gaze fell on a framed picture on her desk—a photo of her, David, and Zara, taken on Zara’s last birthday.

She smiled.

They were her motivation. Her reason for everything.
