*Edo State 2026 Budget of Hope and Growth: A Clear Path to Renewal and Prosperity*

With the presentation and signing of the ₦939.85 billion 2026 Budget of Hope and Growth, His Excellency, Sen. Monday Okpebholo has firmly positioned Edo State on a new and purposeful development path.
Far beyond figures, this budget reflects a bold, people-centred strategy anchored on the SHINE Agenda; Security, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Natural Resources & Agriculture, and Education. It redefines budgeting as a tool for real change, focusing on fixing structural gaps, unlocking economic opportunities, and restoring confidence in governance.

By prioritising massive infrastructure renewal, job creation, and social services, the Governor is deliberately laying the foundation for inclusive growth and long-term prosperity across urban and rural communities.
At the heart of the budget is a visionary understanding that development must touch lives directly.

Historic investments in roads infrastructure, healthcare facilities, education, agriculture, and employment signal a decisive shift from short-term fixes to sustainable solutions. From rebuilding a collapsed healthcare system and recruiting thousands of teachers, to expanding agricultural production, empowering traders, and strengthening institutions through transparency and accountability, the Okpebholo administration is translating vision into action.

The 2026 Budget of Hope and Growth clearly shows a Governor who is focused, strategic, and ready to lead Edo State into a future defined by opportunity, equity, and measurable progress for all.

A ROAD UNDER ATTACK: When Greed Tried to Sabotage Edo’s Progress

Today broke my heart.

Earlier today, I went across Edo South with one simple intention: to see governance at work. To feel the pulse of projects delivered under the watch of Monday Okpebholo.

Seven sites in, the story was consistent. Roads opening up communities. Infrastructure easing daily suffering. A government clearly pressing forward.
Then came Mechanic Road, off Siluko.
What I encountered there shook me.

A labourer was caught sending an underage boy to break a newly constructed road, allegedly to sell it. Even more disturbing, eyewitnesses confirmed that vehicles have been coming to that same site to vandalize road sections for personal gain.

This is not negligence.
This is sabotage.

While the governor is working to ease the burden of Edo people, some individuals from the same community are actively destroying what belongs to everyone.

This must stop.

It must be condemned without excuses.
Big thumbs up to Governor Monday Okpebholo for an infrastructural drive that is clearly visible. Edo’s progress should be protected, not betrayed.

He was not elected to speak the smoothest English.

(The people were done with all that empty showmanship and needed a different approach).

He was elected to provide solutions to the problems faced by the majority of the people, not the minute elites.

He came from, and mainly for the grassroots. Those who have been left forgotten. He came to expand benefits and opportunities.

Governance is not rocket science.

Listen to the problem.

Identify the problems.

Prioritize them (according to the greatest and most urgent needs of the people).

Look for capable people.

Give them vision, your ideology, and the resources they need...
..and get the damn problem fixed!

Simple!

In a short while, when the fruits of the seeds Governor Okpebholo has sown in the last one year plus begin to show, I wonder what his critics will use against him then.

They have criticized his style, his speaking, his looks, ..

Maybe then they will criticise the colour of shoes he wears, or that he eats with his right hand instead of his left. Lol.

The same mouth una take abuse am naim una go still use swallow pride hail am.

Performance no be English or talk.

Results no dey hide.

E must show.

Make una wait small.

Akpakomiza just dey start.

*MOWAA CONTROVERSY OVER - OKPEBHOLO*
■ *AS OBA OF BENIN VISITS GOVERNMENT HOUSE*

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has declared an end to the long-drawn controversy surrounding the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA), affirming that the project will be restored to its original and rightful purpose; a cultural edifice envisioned to honour the heritage of the Benin Kingdom.

The Governor made the declaration on Friday when he received the revered Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, at the Government House in Benin City.

The historic visit drew a distinguished audience of traditional rulers, political leaders, senior civil servants, and members of the public, filling the New Festival Hall to capacity.

Governor Okpebholo described the visit as a defining moment of unity between the State Government and the Benin Monarchy, noting that the relationship between both institutions remains the foundation of Edo’s identity and pride.

“Your Majesty,” the Governor said, “I wanted to make a speech, but the video we just watched, where former Governor Godwin Obaseki promised to build the Benin Royal Museum as a gift to you, has already made it for me. The issue of the Museum of West African Art is over. It was a birthday gift to Your Majesty, and it will be restored as such.”

He continued: “I am glad that the Attorney-General, our political leaders, and other stakeholders are here to witness this. I will take this video to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has immense respect for culture and is a personal friend of the Palace. I am confident that Mr. President will not support any act that undermines the dignity of the Benin Kingdom.”

Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to work with the Benin Palace, the Federal Government, and international partners to ensure the return of all looted Benin artifacts to their rightful home. He pledged to facilitate the establishment of the Benin Royal Museum as a global centre for cultural preservation and historical education.

The Governor emphasized that the visit of the Oba symbolized the strength of collaboration between traditional and political institutions, reiterating his administration’s commitment to mutual respect, peace, and the protection of Edo’s ancestral values.

“As we approach our first anniversary in office on November 12,” he noted, “we do so with gratitude for Your Majesty’s guidance and blessings. This administration remains devoted to securing our communities, empowering our youth, and preserving our cultural heritage. Edo’s strength lies in her traditions and we will uphold them.”

In his response, the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, lauded Governor Okpebholo as “Akpakomiza” a divinely chosen leader whose emergence was destined to bring peace, prosperity, and honour to Edo State.

The Monarch recalled his thank-you tour of Esan land shortly after his coronation, during which, he said, the sun and moon appeared together in the sky; a celestial sign that greatness would one day arise from Esan land. “I prayed for a governor who would put food on the table of the people, develop the state, and respect traditional institutions,” the Oba said. “That prayer has now been answered through Akpakomiza.”

The Monarch commended the governor for his impressive achievements in less than a year in office, including the restoration of the Benin Traditional Council’s full statutory allocation, the return of the Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre, and notable improvements in infrastructure, security, and land administration.

On the MOWAA controversy, Oba Ewuare II clarified that the structure was originally conceived as the Benin Royal Museum; a vision supported by foreign donors and intended to house the repatriated artifacts looted during the 1897 British invasion of Benin.

“The project was meant to be the Benin Royal Museum,” the Oba declared. “I fully support my people who protested against the attempted opening of MOWAA. The House of Assembly should continue its investigation into its funding and ownership. The world recognizes it as the Benin Royal Museum, and it must remain so.”

The monarch further urged Governor Okpebholo to revisit his proposed agricultural industrial hubs across Edo State to boost food production, create jobs, and strengthen local economies. He also called on President Tinubu to fulfil his promise of supporting the Benin Royal Museum project.

Friday’s royal visit, the third of its kind in recent history, following similar visits by the late Oba Erediauwa in 2012 under Governor Adams Oshiomhole and by Oba Ewuare II in 2017 during Governor Godwin Obaseki’s tenure, ended with prayers for peace, unity, and enduring progress in Edo State.

With the Oba’s visit and the governor’s firm pronouncement, the clouds of controversy that once shrouded the MOWAA project have finally lifted, marking a new dawn of cultural restoration and mutual respect between the government and the Benin Kingdom.
