BREAKING: Tinubu’s Govt Set To Arrest Skitmakers Who Release Content Online Without Approval
The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), under the leadership of Shaibu Husseini, has announced plans to arrest skitmakers who release content online without prior approval.
In a recent statement on social media, the NFVCB warned filmmakers and content creators against producing, promoting, and distributing unapproved content on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter. The board expressed growing concern over the increasing amount of content that violates Nigeria’s censorship laws.
“The attention of the National Film and Video Censors Board has been drawn to the activities of some unscrupulous filmmakers/content creators who are clearly flouting the provisions of the country’s law with impunity,” the statement read.
The board specifically highlighted the illegal production and dissemination of same-sex content, noting that such content is prohibited under Nigerian law. The NFVCB emphasized that all film and video content, including skits and music videos, must be classified by the board before being distributed or exhibited on any platform.
Reminding content creators about the 2014 Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, the board stated, “It is an offence to directly or indirectly make public show (Exhibition) of same-sex relationships in Nigeria.” The statement also reiterated that it is illegal to distribute or exhibit any film or video content without NFVCB classification.
To enforce these regulations, the NFVCB announced its collaboration with security agencies to track and take legal action against those who violate the rules. “The Board therefore wishes to state categorically that we are working with relevant security agencies to track the individuals and production companies involved,” the statement concluded.
