The serpent of our salvation
"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life". (John 3:14-15)
Our text, which is seen typologically in Numbers 21:5-9, says the bronze serpent which God directed Moses to put on a pole was the LORD Jesus Christ, that whoever was bitten by the snakes which He sent to bite them for their sin of murmuring, would be healed when he looked at the bronze serpent on the pole.
The bronze serpent survived for many centuries and played a very significant role in the religious life of the Israelites until the regime of King Hezekiah. It was called "Nehushtan" , meaning "Bronze thing" which became an idol to which the people burned incense and for which reason Hezekiah broke it in pieces, marking the end of its existence (2 Kings 18:4).
The Bronze Serpent of our salvation is the reason for the song, "I've a message from LORD, Hallelujah, The message unto you I'll give; 'tis written in His word, Hallelujah! It is only that you look and live!
Let us look at Jesus and live. You do not need to sacrifice anything else for your salvation, healing, prosperity, promotion, except to dedicate yourself to God in appreciation for what He has accomplished for us in Christ.
God's plan of salvation is very simple, though it looks foolish, for He says, "Look and live; believe and be saved". The LORD Jesus Christ has paid the full price for our sins and therefore, there is no punishment or condemnation for anyone who believes in Him (Rom 8:1).
If you have not been looking up to the Serpent of Our salvation, Jesus, you will be consumed by the venom of the old serpent that has led many to eternal damnation.
They looked up to Jesus and were not ashamed.
I thank You LORD for all the benefits accruable to me from Your death on the cross.
