TREATING CATFISH EGG, FRIES AND FINGERLINGS TO IMPROVE HATCHERY, PREVENT DISEASE OUTBREAK AND DETER MASSIVE DEATH.
I greet una, my people! Na me bring una this guide for catfish farming. Today, we go learn how to use hydrogen peroxide treat catfish eggs, fries, and fingerlings to get better harvest. This method dey work well for Naija farmers, from Oyo to Delta. Make we start!
Egg Treatment
First, collect fertilized catfish eggs, like Clarias gariepinus, put am for hatching incubator or container or vat. Mix 0.3% hydrogen peroxide solution, that’s 300 mg for one litre of water. Use am do 15-minute bath every day till eggs hatch, make water temperature be like around 27–30°C. This one go fight fungus like Saprolegnia and give you 62% hatchability. Make sure water clean o!
Fry Treatment
Now, move fries to nursery tank. Use 250 mg hydrogen peroxide for one litre water, do 15-minute bath. This go make fries strong, up to 83% go survive. Repeat if you need.
Fingerling Treatment
For fingerlings, use 50–100 mg hydrogen peroxide for one litre water. Do 60-minute bath every other day, three times. This go control columnaris infection wey dey worry fish.
Always check water o! Dissolved oxygen suppose dey 4.5–6.8 mg/L, ammonia below 0.34 mg/L and water pH 6.5 - 7.5.
