Twice yearly, we organize a career fair aimed at creating opportunities,developing and supporting women across borders and countries.

Sometime last year, I had the opportunity of being a moderator for this event.

As expected, the task came with its share of ups and downs.

One experience that stood out for me was one of the days I was meant to moderate.

As I made preparations to invite the speaker for the day, I was informed by the team that the speaker was unavoidably absent.

What this meant was that I had to fill in for her.
Now, trust me I didn't see this coming.
I wasn't prepared for it but then there were hundreds of faces staring at me, waiting for an explanation, anything to make meaning of the speaker's absence.

I was thrown off guard but then I realized I was in the right place , I was meant to do this, I was meant for this.

And so, I took a deep breath and plunged into an unknown topic.

Luckily for me, the topic was about the Japa Movement in Nigeria, how to begin one and how to find your way through.

Prior to this day, I had attended seminars and webinars, read books and articles on this topic and followed quite a number of notable personalities helping people realize their JAPA dreams.

And there I was speaking like I had planned it all.😜😁

I want to believe that I was able to hold the fort quite impressively from the comments I got from people at the end of the fair.

The experience has taught me to read, follow up on trends and most importantly, to put my best foot forward in confidence even when I am not so sure of what the ground looks like.

And that was how I became a moderator in one minute and a speaker in the next.🤣

This year, I was intentional about my career growth and yes, I took risks.

I reached out to prospective clients to offer services around voiceovers, event emceeing and social media management.

Looking back now, I realized that at the point of reaching out to them, I had little or no idea of how I would deliver the job, I just knew I could and would give it my all. And that's exactly what I did.

Comparing this year with the previous year, I see nothing but growth.
I see a young lady discovering herself more and more each day. I see a lady becoming so confident and comfortable in her own skin and willing to learn and keep getting better every day.

The year is ending on a beautiful note for me as I was contacted to deliver this Jingle aimed at creating awareness about the forthcoming 2023 General elections and how we must all come out and vote without fear or bias.
It is also currently being aired on radio stations across Nigeria.

This project is a joint initiative of the International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

It can only get better from here on by God's grace.
