π THE MARKET THAT BOUGHT TOMORROW
π₯ EPISODE 16 β PART 2
THE FUTURE NOBODY COULD SEE
The room remained frozen.
Chidi stood between Kelechi and the ancient Guardians.
His eyes were no longer focused on the people around him.
He was looking at something nobody else could see.
A future.
A future that had not happened yet.
Kelechi moved closer.
"Chidi."
No response.
"Son, look at me."
Slowly, Chidi turned.
His eyes were filled with fear.
"Papa..."
Kelechi knelt in front of him.
"I'm here."
Chidi shook his head.
"Not for long."
Kelechi's heart tightened.
"What did you see?"
Chidi looked toward the ancient door.
"I saw tomorrow."
The Keeper stepped forward.
"That's impossible."
Chidi looked at him.
"I saw many tomorrows."
The Guardians exchanged worried looks.
One of them whispered:
"The child has crossed the boundary."
Kelechi stood.
"What boundary?"
The Guardian answered:
"The boundary between what is... and what could be."
Kelechi immediately pulled Chidi closer.
"Then whatever he saw, he doesn't have to face it."
But Chidi whispered:
"Papa..."
"What?"
"I saw you disappear."
π―οΈ STAGE 56 β A FUTURE WITHOUT KELECHI
The room changed.
Chidi's eyes became distant again.
Suddenly, he saw another place.
Another time.
Umuara was silent.
The ancient Market was abandoned.
The golden door stood wide open.
And Kelechi was nowhere to be found.
Chidi was older.
He stood alone in the middle of the empty Market.
"Papa?"
No answer.
He ran through the streets.
"Papa!"
Nothing.
Then he saw Amara.
She was standing beneath the old tree.
Her face was covered with tears.
"Where is Papa?"
Amara couldn't answer.
Chidi stepped closer.
"Where is he?"
She finally whispered:
"He's gone."
Chidi shook his head.
"No."
"He left trying to save you."
"No!"
Chidi turned toward the ancient door.
He saw Kelechi standing beyond it.
Alive.
But trapped.
Kelechi placed his hand against the other side.
"Chidi."
The boy ran toward him.
"Papa!"
But every time Chidi moved forward...
the distance between them became greater.
Kelechi shouted:
"Don't come closer!"
"Why?"
"Because if you open the door..."
Kelechi looked toward the darkness.
"...you won't be able to close it again."
Chidi cried:
"I can save you!"
Kelechi shook his head.
"No."
"Papa!"
"You must save your mother."
Then the vision disappeared.
Chidi gasped.
Kelechi caught him.
"What happened?"
Chidi looked at his father.
"I saw you."
"Where?"
"Behind the door."
Kelechi's face tightened.
"What happened to me?"
Chidi began crying.
"You were gone."
Kelechi held him firmly.
"I'm here."
"But I saw it."
"It was only a possible future."
The Keeper stepped forward.
"Not just a possible future."
Kelechi turned.
"What do you mean?"
The Keeper looked frightened.
"The child has seen a future that the Guardians have been trying to prevent."
Kelechi's expression hardened.
"Then we'll prevent it."
But Chidi whispered:
"There was another one."
π STAGE 57 β A FUTURE WITHOUT AMARA
Chidi closed his eyes.
Another vision appeared.
This time...
Amara was gone.
Kelechi stood inside their home.
Everything was exactly where they had left it.
Except Amara.
"Where is your mother?"
Kelechi asked.
Chidi looked around.
"I don't know."
Then he saw something on the table.
Amara's necklace.
Kelechi picked it up.
His hands trembled.
"She wouldn't leave this behind."
Chidi looked toward the window.
Outside...
the Market was glowing.
The ancient voice whispered:
"She chose the door."
Kelechi froze.
"What did you say?"
The voice repeated:
"She chose the door."
Chidi suddenly saw Amara standing before the golden entrance.
She was alone.
The ancient Guardians surrounded her.
Amara looked back.
"Take care of him."
Kelechi shouted:
"AMARA!"
She turned.
Their eyes met.
Then the door closed.
Kelechi ran toward it.
"No!"
He struck the door.
"Open!"
Nothing.
Chidi screamed:
"Mama!"
And then...
Amara disappeared.
The vision shattered.
Chidi opened his eyes.
Amara was standing directly in front of him.
She immediately pulled him into her arms.
"I'm here."
Chidi held her tightly.
"I saw you disappear."
Amara looked at Kelechi.
"What did you see?"
Kelechi answered quietly:
"A future without you."
Amara looked toward the Guardians.
Then back at her family.
"Then that future will not happen."
One of the Guardians stepped forward.
"You cannot decide that."
Amara turned.
"Watch me."
π©Έ STAGE 58 β THE FUTURE WHERE EVERYONE DIES
The ancient door suddenly shook.
The lights disappeared.
The Market fell into darkness.
Chidi covered his ears.
"No..."
Kelechi grabbed him.
"What is it?"
"It's coming."
"What?"
"The worst one."
The Keeper's face went pale.
"The future nobody survives."
Chidi closed his eyes.
And this time...
he saw everything.
The Market was destroyed.
The ancient walls had collapsed.
The golden door stood completely open.
The Guardians were gone.
The Keeper was gone.
Amara was gone.
Kelechi was gone.
The entire village was silent.
Chidi stood alone.
The ancient entity emerged from the darkness.
It looked toward him.
"You finally came."
Chidi shook his head.
"No."
"You are the last one."
"No."
"You have nowhere left to run."
Chidi looked around.
Everyone he loved was gone.
He fell to his knees.
"Why?"
The entity moved closer.
"Because this was always the ending."
Chidi looked up.
"Who decided?"
"The bloodlines."
"The Guardians."
"The ancient promises."
"And you."
Chidi froze.
"Me?"
"You were born into it."
"You were chosen."
"You were written into it."
Chidi shook his head.
"I don't want this."
The entity answered:
"Wanting does not change destiny."
Then Chidi noticed something.
The darkness behind the entity.
There was a small space.
A place the entity couldn't enter.
A place it couldn't see.
Chidi stared.
"What is that?"
The entity became silent.
For the first time...
it looked afraid.
Chidi stood.
"You can't see it."
The entity stepped backward.
"What did you say?"
"You can't see that place."
The darkness began changing.
A door appeared.
But it wasn't the golden door.
It wasn't ancient.
It wasn't covered in symbols.
It was simple.
Almost ordinary.
Chidi reached toward it.
The entity shouted:
"STOP!"
Chidi froze.
The entity had never sounded afraid before.
"What is behind it?"
The entity answered:
"I don't know."
Chidi stared.
"You don't know?"
"No."
"Then it's a future you can't control."
The entity became silent.
And suddenly...
Chidi understood.
The darkest future wasn't the only future.
π STAGE 59 β THE FUTURE NOBODY CAN SEE
Chidi opened his eyes.
Kelechi was holding him.
"Chidi!"
The boy looked around.
Everyone was still there.
Amara.
Kelechi.
The Keeper.
Even the Guardians.
Chidi breathed heavily.
Kelechi touched his face.
"Are you okay?"
Chidi nodded slowly.
"I saw the ending."
Kelechi's voice softened.
"What ending?"
"The one where everybody dies."
Silence.
The Guardians looked at each other.
One Guardian whispered:
"That future cannot be changed."
Chidi looked at him.
"Yes, it can."
The Guardian stepped forward.
"You are a child. You don't understand what you have seen."
Chidi shook his head.
"No."
He looked toward the ancient door.
"I understand something you don't."
"What?"
"The thing beneath the Market can see every future."
The Keeper stared.
"Every future?"
"Almost."
Kelechi frowned.
"Almost?"
Chidi nodded.
"There is one it cannot see."
The room became completely silent.
The Keeper stepped closer.
"What future?"
Chidi looked at his father.
"I don't know yet."
The Guardian raised his staff.
"Then you must be protected."
Kelechi immediately stepped between them.
"Nobody is taking my son."
The Guardian replied:
"If the child chooses wrongly, the world will suffer."
Amara stepped beside Kelechi.
"Then teach him."
The Guardian stared at her.
"But if he chooses freely..."
Amara finished:
"...then his choice belongs to him."
Chidi looked at his parents.
For the first time...
he wasn't afraid of the future.
He was afraid of something else.
What if the future depended on him?
π STAGE 60 β "THAT FUTURE BELONGS TO YOU"
The ancient voice suddenly filled the room.
"Chidi."
Everyone froze.
The voice was no longer angry.
It sounded almost uncertain.
"Show me the future."
Chidi looked toward the golden door.
"No."
The voice answered:
"You cannot hide from destiny."
Chidi shook his head.
"Maybe."
He looked at Kelechi.
"Maybe destiny is what you see coming."
Then he looked at Amara.
"But the future is what you choose."
The Keeper stared at him.
"Where did you learn that?"
Chidi answered:
"From Papa."
Kelechi's eyes filled with emotion.
Chidi turned toward the door.
"You can see what happened."
"You can see what is happening."
"You can see what might happen."
"But you can't see what I haven't chosen."
Silence.
The ancient door began trembling.
The entity's voice became louder.
"YOU BELONG TO THE BLOODLINE."
Chidi stood firm.
"No."
"I belong to my family."
The voice shook the walls.
"YOU BELONG TO ME."
Chidi looked at Kelechi.
Then at Amara.
Then back toward the door.
"No."
The golden symbols began fading.
The Guardians stared in disbelief.
The Keeper whispered:
"The prophecy..."
Kelechi turned.
"What?"
The Keeper looked at Chidi.
"It was never about predicting his future."
"Then what was it about?"
The Keeper's eyes widened.
"Giving him the power to create one."
The ancient voice screamed.
"NO!"
The door cracked.
A bright light appeared behind it.
Chidi stepped forward.
The mark on his hand began glowing.
But this time...
it wasn't the same symbol.
It was changing.
Kelechi stared.
"What is happening to his mark?"
The Keeper whispered:
"The key is changing."
"Why?"
"Because the lock is no longer deciding where it leads."
Kelechi looked at Chidi.
"Then who is?"
The Keeper slowly answered:
"Chidi."
The boy looked toward the darkness.
"I don't know what the future will be."
He took his father's hand.
"And that's okay."
Then he took his mother's hand.
"Because nobody gets to choose it for me."
The ancient voice became silent.
For the first time...
the entity had nothing to say.
Because it had finally discovered something it could not control.
A future it could not see.
A future the Guardians had never written.
A future the bloodlines had never predicted.
A future that belonged to one person.
Chidi.
The child of tomorrow.
But just as the golden door began closing...
a whisper came from behind it.
Not the ancient entity.
Not the Guardians.
Not the Keeper.
A woman's voice.
Soft.
Broken.
Familiar.
"Chidi..."
He froze.
Kelechi looked at him.
"What is it?"
Chidi stared at the closing door.
His face changed.
"I know that voice."
Amara whispered:
"Whose voice?"
Chidi slowly answered:
"Akaru's daughter."
The door slammed shut.
And somewhere deep beneath Umuara...
a woman who had been silent for centuries...
opened her eyes.
