A million naira is sitting in my wife’s bank account. She doesn’t have a real job. The last time I checked that same account last year, it had only about ₦30,000.
About seven months ago, she started working with a lady she calls her friend. The woman is a supervisor at a club, and my wife goes there a few times a week to help out. She says she gets paid ₦40k–₦50k each time. She usually leaves around 8pm and comes back by 11pm, so I believed her.
I didn’t like the idea of her working there, but she said she needed a side hustle. Since our marriage in 2021, I’ve been handling all the bills, so I agreed—it helped ease some pressure.
But now I just found out her account has over ₦1,000,000. She hid it from me. When I asked where it came from, she said she saved it from the club job. But that doesn’t make sense—how do you save over a million in a few months on that pay?
When I pressed further, she changed her story and said she doesn’t know how the money got there. I asked her to print her account statement. I saw several transfers from mobile money wallets and even a cash deposit of ₦880,000 in one day.
Now she’s refusing to talk about it. She told me to take the money and leave her alone. But I don’t want the money—I just want the truth.
How can someone with no real job suddenly have over a million naira in her account? Shouldn’t the bank even flag this as suspicious?
I’m confused, hurt, and really worried. What should I do? 😭
