God why?
I’ve been strong for too long.
Never complained, not even when hunger wrapped itself around my ribs
like a second skin.
I smiled when I had nothing.
I served when my hands were empty.
I kept the faith when it felt like life forgot my name.

But today…
Today, my eyes are heavy from crying.
I borrowed ₦2,000 just to eat garri and buy water.
I owe friends. I owe family. I owe light bills.
And still… I showed up.
Trekking miles just to show up at work on an empty stomach
while others drove in with full bellies and laughter.
I almost collapsed,
but pride wouldn’t let me ask for a bite of their chicken and chips.

I sat there…
the poorest in the room,
still trying to hold on to a faith
that now feels like a cruel joke.

God, why?
Why now?
Why let me suffer like this when You know I’m running out of strength?
Why test the one who never stopped believing in you?
Why reward faithfulness with painful silence?

I’ve stayed when everyone else left.
I’ve been loyal when it cost me everything.
Is this what I get?

But still…
somewhere inside the ache in my heart,
I still whisper: “Help me Lord.”

I’m tired.
But I’ll be here.
Still hoping.
Still praying.
Still believing that maybe; just maybe, this breaking
will be the end of me.
