The Boy Who Listened
In a small town in Lagos, Nigeria, there lived a young boy named Daniel. Daniel was smart, energetic, and full of big dreams. He wanted to become rich quickly and live a flashy life like the people he saw online.
But Daniel’s parents were simple, hardworking people. His father was a carpenter, and his mother sold food in the local market. Every night, they gave him the same advice:
“Success is not built in one day. Be patient, be honest, and work hard.”
Sometimes Daniel felt tired of hearing those words. His friends laughed at him because he refused to join them in quick-money schemes. Some of them even told him, “Your parents are too old-fashioned.”
One day, Daniel almost followed his friends into a risky business deal that promised fast money. But he remembered his mother’s voice:
“Anything that grows too fast can collapse quickly.”
He stepped back.
Instead, Daniel decided to learn a skill. He started helping his father after school, learning carpentry. He also took online business classes and saved every little profit he made from small furniture jobs.
Years passed.
While many of his friends struggled because of bad decisions, Daniel slowly built his own furniture company. He treated customers with honesty. He paid his workers fairly. He reinvested his profits wisely.
At the age of 30, Daniel became one of the most respected young businessmen in his city. His company supplied furniture to hotels, schools, and offices across Nigeria.
One day, during an interview, he was asked:
“Who inspired your success?”
Daniel smiled and said:
“My parents. I simply listened.”
He built his parents a beautiful house and made sure they never lacked anything again.
