Nigeria is about to commission its first AI-ready data centres.

• Kasi Cloud is building a 100-megawatt AI campus in Lekki.
• Airtel Nxtra is putting $120 million into a hyperscale facility at Eko Atlantic.
• MTN's Genova unit is adding AI-optimised GPU infrastructure later this year.
• Equinix has already opened on Victoria Island.

Almost 1 billion in compute infrastructure built specifically for AI workloads in Nigeria this year alone.

This is significant.
For years, every AI request processed on behalf of a Nigerian business was routed through servers thousands of kilometres away. That meant latency, cost, and data leaving the country. Local infrastructure changes that equation.

Enterprise value is being established at scale and organisations need to start aligning their business strategies as well as build the right capabilities, that move the needle on their operations.

When people hear Al, the first thing that comes to mind are ChatGPT Claude, Gemini. And that's a big problem.

Al is generally perceived as a "chatbot" when it is so much more
Most business owners are yet to grasp the capabilities of Al systems and how it can benefit their enterprise.

Behind the scenes, Al can monitor inventory in real time, predict demand and supply patterns analyse years of operational data, and surface insights teams never had the time or capacity to uncover.

Organisations are deploying Al to detect fraudulent transactions before they clear, support customers at 2am without humar intervention, optimise internal workflows, and help leadership teams make faster, better-informed decisions.

Take JPMorgan for example.
The bank had been processing thousands of complex legal and commercial credit agreements manually. Teams of lawyers and compliance staff had to review documents line by line to identify risks, obligations, inconsistencies, and potential fraud

The process was slow, expensive, and heavily dependent on human review until JPMorgan built an Al system called COiN (Contract Intelligence).

Instead of humans spending weeks reviewing documents, COiN scans thousands of agreements in seconds, extract critical clauses, flag anomalies, identify potential risks, and convert unstructured lega documents into usable operational data,.

This changed everything about the process. The bank reportedly saved over 360,000 hours of manual legal work annually while reducing operational errors.

The possibilities are endless, but first, we have to change the direction of the conversation beyond prompting a chatbot or using Al as a personal assistant.

Who is actively investing in developing the workforce Nigeria needs for the future?

At , we believe talent development should not be left to chance, especially in areas like AI, data, and emerging technology.

This is why programmes like matter.

Not just as a learning initiative, but as an investment in capability building. By equipping women with practical AI and data skills, mentorship, exposure, and hands-on learning, we are contributing to a workforce that can actively participate in the future of technology.

We took the vision from being an abstract concept to something concrete and achievable.

Together with we deployed an AI Lab equipped with Edge AI and Computer Vision capabilities, the lab is designed as a practical learning and experimentation space where participants can move beyond theory and interact with real AI systems and infrastructure.

To participate in the future of AI, we have to build local capacity, local talent, and local infrastructure that allows people to learn, experiment, and solve real problems within our own context.
