Who is Oba Dr. Francis Olatunji Adedoyin
The king that we can't ever forget in Modakeke...
Oba Francis Olatunji Adedoyin (c. 1922 – 5 August 2018) was a Nigerian monarch who reigned as the Ogunsua, or traditional ruler, of Modakeke in Osun State from 1994 until his death at age 96. A descendant of the Olaogbin Royal family, he initially ascended amid the historical tensions of the Modakeke-Ife disputes, which stemmed from 19th-century migrations and land claims following the Oyo Empire's collapse. Adedoyin contributed to de-escalation by participating in a 2009 peace accord with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, and the Osun State government, which elevated the Ogunsua stool to Oba status and facilitated boundary demarcations to address resource conflicts over cocoa and timber. In 2009, he received the beaded crown, symbolizing formal recognition of Modakeke's autonomy within Yoruba traditional hierarchies, during a period of relative stability after decades of communal violence that displaced thousands and caused hundreds of deaths. Known for his influence as one of Yorubaland's wealthier obas, Adedoyin's tenure emphasized diplomacy and community advocacy amid ongoing local governance challenges.
May his soul rest in peace
