Subject: Outcome of JPTS Student Delegates Meeting with the President
Held on 23rd February 2024 at JPTS Lagos Campus
Dear JPTS Students,
Following the recent meeting between student delegates and the President of Joint Professionals Training and Support International Limited (JPTS), we would like to inform you of the key outcomes and decisions made:
JPTS International Program Unaffected: The suspension of credentials evaluation by the Federal Ministry of Nigeria for universities in Benin and Togo does not affect JPTS International Program. As a professional institution with international recognition beyond the borders of Nigeria, Benin, or Togo, JPTS International's credentials remain valid. This recognition facilitates student transfers to universities worldwide without geographical constraints.
Diploma Certificate Issuance: The diploma certificate conferred during the convocation ceremony is one of the professional certificates promised to students upon admission. It serves as evidence of completion of level 3 within the program.
Transfer to Global Wealth University (GWU): Level 4 students of JPTS are required to commence the application process for transfer to Global Wealth University. This involves submitting a transfer form to the coordinator or completing it online on GWU's website. Upon receipt of the form, GWU will issue an admission letter and guide students through subsequent processes, including lectures, projects, industrial attachments, seminars, etc. Level 4 students must also select a convenient date to physically visit the main campus as indicated on the transfer form.
QEI Consult Operation: QEI Consult will be given space within the JPTS compound to operate. This facilitates student engagement with Nigerian universities such as LAUTECH for program admissions.
Suspension Impact on NYSC Mobilization: Students awaiting mobilization for NYSC will need to await the lifting of the suspension, expected in April 2024. Alternatively, students may reach Lawrence Ojaide, Student Alumni Committee Chairman for updates on alternative route.
Pending Results and Transfer Options: Students concerned about pending results are advised to meet with the coordinator to check their status. Despite recent challenges, management is exploring additional transfer options for students to ensure degree completion.
It is essential to reiterate that the diploma certificate received upon completion of level 3 is a professional certificate, paving the way for further academic pursuits leading to a BSc degree.
We encourage students to remain proactive and engaged with the ongoing developments. Should you have any questions or require further clarification, do not hesitate to reach out to the relevant authorities.
Following up on the recent meeting between student delegates and the President, we've collated the additional questions raised along with their respective answers for your clarity:
Change from HCM/Nursing to HCM Only: The decision to change from HCM/Nursing to solely HCM was made to avoid confusion among students. Originally, the term HCM/Nursing implied that upon completing the HCM BSc, students would proceed for a top-up in Nursing. However, the inclusion of Nursing led to misunderstandings, with some students interpreting the program as directly leading to Nursing. Therefore, the change was implemented to provide clarity regarding the program's focus.
Commencement of Nursing Program for HCM Graduates: The Nursing Program top-up is scheduled to commence in April 2024. Only students holding the HCM BSc certificate will be eligible to fill out the Nursing top-up form, which will be released soon. A committee has been formed to review the admission process and transfer procedures for these students. Additionally, the committee will address the issue of Membership Registration of HCM/Public Health Students in the Public Health Council of Nigeria and evaluate the modality of the Healthcare Bootcamp.
Acceptance of JPTS Admission Letters in the Workplace: Some working-class students faced rejections when submitting their JPTS admission letters to their workplaces. To address this, students must ensure that the letter addressed to their organization clearly states that the program admitted for is a Professional Diploma. This diploma will be utilized for credit transfer into Global Wealth University for the issuance of a BSc degree. Failing to specify this may result in rejection.
Online Exams and Portal Upgrade: Moving forward, all exams will be conducted at Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers. Students requesting changes in exam centers or courses are advised to exercise patience during this process.
NYSC Document Requirements: Students inquired about the acceptable documents for NYSC registration. The NYSC recognizes only the International Passport duly stamped to indicate entry and exit across borders as a valid document for registration.
Payment Confirmation for Cash Transactions: Some students raised concerns about cash payments made to the coordinator without receiving any bank teller as proof. Students in this situation are advised to promptly approach the individual who received the cash payment to either retrieve the money or obtain a verifiable bank slip as proof of payment.
Lecturer Remuneration and Timely Payment: Regarding lecturers' compensation and the promptness of payments, it was clarified that there is a standardized payment mechanism for part-time lecturers, which is applicable across all centers and schools nationwide. The payment structure at JPTS is considered satisfactory in comparison to industry standards. Lecturers were reminded to address any payment-related concerns through appropriate channels rather than discussing them with students, as such discussions could undermine the system's integrity.
Transfer Process to Nigerian Universities: Students inquired about the process of transferring from JPTS levels 1, 2, or 3 to a Nigerian university. The procedure involves filling out a transfer form to Global Wealth University (GWU). Once processed, and the student's credits are transferred to GWU with an admission letter issued, the student can utilize the GWU results to transfer to any university worldwide.
Absence of Practical Workshops: Some students have inquired about the absence of practical workshops at JPTS centers. It is essential to understand that the methodology of JPTS programs is not currently designed to include practical workshops. Instead, practicality is integrated through industrial training and boot camps. Each institution has its unique approach to achieving learning outcomes, and for JPTS, this is the current process. However, we remain open to potential adjustments in the future to enhance the learning experience.
Hospital Requirements for Clinical Practice: Students participating in clinical practice may encounter hospitals requesting Nursing Council licenses. It's crucial to clarify that the HCM/Public Health course offered by JPTS is distinct from Nursing and does not require Nursing Council approval. Currently, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) is responsible for accrediting nursing schools, and a subsidiary of our institution has initiated the accreditation process. Until accreditation is obtained, direct nursing courses cannot be offered. Students should inform hospitals and external agencies that JPTS does not offer nursing programs; instead, our Healthcare Management and Public Health courses are approved by the Public Health Council.
Clearance Procedures: We are pleased to announce that clearance procedures can now be conveniently conducted through the Student Portal. This streamlined process aims to simplify clearance requirements and ensure efficiency in administrative tasks.
Missing Teller for Final Clearance: If a student misplaces their teller, they can write a request letter detailing their payment information, including the name, amount, month, and year of payment. This letter should be attached to the clearance documents to facilitate the final clearance process.
Reasons for Delay in NYSC Mobilization: NYSC mobilization is overseen by the university. Students must complete their programs with JPTS, transfer physically to the university for completion, and fulfill all necessary fee payments. Additionally, a payment of N33,000 for document evaluation to the Ministry of Education is required for authentication of credentials by the Federal Ministry of Education (FME). Delays may occur due to late compliance with payment requirements or external delays from the FME. It is imperative for students to adhere to the process to expedite their NYSC mobilization.
Reasons for Delay in Certificate and Transcript Issuance: Certificates and transcripts are issued once students have satisfied all course, payment, and conduct requirements. Delays may result from unresolved carryovers, missing tellers, or pending conduct issues. Students who have successfully cleared these obstacles have received their certificates and transcripts.
