I have seen a ‘terrible’ sales copy bring in so much sales while a ‘standard’ copy do badly. You may say why call it terrible if it brings home the goods? It is because it is not appearing polished with grammar and feature jargons… just stories and bla bla bla. But it made a whole lot of money.

The secret is simple; the copy sold to the customers and not the critics.The goal of a good sales copy is not to win a Nobel Prize in literature but to simply make people buy what it is selling. Your online marketing strategy will fail if your plan is to appear like other successful companies. What works for them may not work for you. And your goal, if you want your online marketing to succeed is to find what works for you. If you ask me, I would say the customer should determine the kind of approach you adapt.

In my experience as The Supplement Copywriter, I have realized the power of story in selling products. Stories are relatable. The ordinary man appreciates stories and so does the high and mighty. Stories communicate complex concepts in simple unforgettable ways.Companies make a mistake of showing off their capabilities to put the competition off.

Awards, accreditations, sales figures… All these just to make a statement to the adversary or should I say competitors. It’s an error stemming from a wrong perspective. Focus on the customer; his needs, his fears and how your product alone can solve these.The opinion of critics matter... I guess, but nothing is more important to the survival of a company than its sales figures.

You will have to concentrate on that when developing your sales strategy and copies. Your focus must be on getting a good bottom line. So set your perspective correctly, sell to the customers and not the critics.

Check your online marketing strategy, you may find these 3 mistakes I am about to share with you. It will be found in your sales copy, your sales funnel, your website and blogs. And they all stem from the wrong perspective of focusing on your products instead of the customer.

Mistake # 1: Features Instead Of Benefits

Companies and online marketers make a serious mistake when they try to sell products by arraying its features more than portraying the benefits. The number one question ringing in the mind of your prospect is ‘How does this product make my problem go away?’ or ‘How does buying this product change my life?’

It’s a default pattern. A subconscious question. And if you want them to reach for their wallet or click the buy button through your online marketing strategy, answering that question should be your only goal.

Costumers are saucy, impatient and you can’t blame them. Customer is king. And online, it is worse. Impatience is a strong reality in the online space. If you will grab your audience’s attention quickly, you should aim at telling (actually showing) them the benefits of using your products and not the jargons of product specifications.

Now don’t get me wrong, customers are intelligent too. They want to know what makes up the product, but that is after they have actually decided to buy. Emotion before logic… Never forget that.

Do you remember that slogan, ‘what’s in it for me’? Well, that’s the exact question in the mind of your prospects. The sooner you answer that question, the sooner you see them reach for their wallets or Cards. Your products are ‘the best’, you have put in so much to make it so but until you make prospects see the benefits it brings to their lives, you haven’t really started marketing your product.

I have read countless sales copies where I struggled to even read to the end because it majorly talks about features. Especially in the nutrition supplement niche. When online sales copy for a nutrition supplement reads like a medical research or thesis, I am left to wonder if it was aimed at generating sales. Features only come in handy when establishing credibility and trust. But while you are yet to get to that stage, make the prospect relish the idea of the numerable benefits your product alone can deliver to him. It works all the time!
