Last week, I sat on the couch scrolling through my phone. My husband was on the other side of the room, scrolling through his. The kids were asleep, the house finally quiet.
And yet, we were miles apart.
So I put my phone down.
I walked over, sat beside him, and leaned into his shoulder.
He looked at me, surprised like he had been waiting for me to notice him, too.
We didn’t talk about bills. We didn’t talk about the kids. We just talked.
About our dreams, our memories, and silly little things.
And in that moment, I remembered, marriage doesn’t need big, grand gestures to stay alive.
Sometimes, it just needs presence. A hand held. A kiss before bed. A conversation that matters.
We can’t let parenting make us roommates.
We have to keep choosing to be partners.
