Though the Law of Moses only prescribed stoning for actually committing adultery, nonetheless, in regard to the Law's relation to eternal and ultimate matters, more was implied in the command to avoid adultery than just to not do the very act. Jesus points out that one is not innocent and pure before God who has lusted adulterously though not done the actual act of adultery. Sin is still in that man's heart.

Teach us, oh Lord that unless we keep your Law from the heart and abide by the spirit as well as the letter of your commands, we have not truly kept them. Help us to keep your Law truly from a motive of love for you. Amen.

When we cry out to God, He hears us. When we seek deliverance, He rescues and protects us. When we need wisdom, He instructs us. And when we confess our sins, He forgives us and restores us because of His unending love for us. So let us join the psalmist in praising God for His faithful response to our prayers.

Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

Lord, we seek to prepare hearts through your Word that they might then receive Christ into them. Use us to show others your Son, and let us rejoice whenever a soul receives Him. Amen.

It’s much easier to sleep in the dark than in the light. But the light of Christ does so much more than just wake us from our slumber. He wakes us from the spiritual slumber of death. In the light of Jesus, we are led to consciousness, alertness, and life. So let us live for him by embracing the light, that we might remain alert in the glow of his light.

Lord, shine through me so that others may be called to new life in You, too. In Jesus’ name, amen.

It is good to hear the word of the LORD. It is also good to read your Bible on your own, but that cannot replace hearing God's word. That is one of the many reasons that it is important to go to Church and hear the word preached. This scripture has so much emotion and emphasis. As though they were already saying God's word, but they weren't listening, so now they are trying to gain their attention.

God I thank You that I have a Bible to read, and I pray for those who don't. Bless me with a thirst and hunger for Your word so that I cannot get enough of it. In Jesus' name, who is the Word.

Sometimes, we are terrified to speak to large groups, or even get into conversations about difficult or important matters. We’re are afraid of embarrassing ourselves or being misunderstood. But we have the assurance that where God calls us to speak, whether to multitudes or one-on-one, He doesn’t leave us unequipped. When we seek His wisdom, He provides us the words we need when we need them by the power of His Spirit.

Lord, You have connected me to the people around me for a reason. You have filled me with Your truth and built me up in Your word. I ask that when You call me to speak Your truth, whenever and wherever that may be, that You would put the words in my mouth. Use my voice, so that all of my words may honor You and lead others to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
