One way to keep your business visible both online and offline is to👇
SHOW UP CONSISTENTLY
Many business owners struggle with consistency. They wake up one morning feeling motivated, open accounts on different social media platforms, post one or two pieces of content, and then go back to running their physical businesses leaving behind the online presence they created and, many times, potential customers waiting in their DMs.
But “show up consistently” does not mean having accounts on five different social media platforms and working yourself out trying to post on every one of them daily while still managing your physical business. That can quickly become draining and overwhelming.
Instead, focus on being consistent in these five important areas:
Begin by Knowing Your Target Audience
Research your target audience and find out where the majority of them spend their time online. Once you identify the social media platform where the highest percentage of your target audience is most active, make that your priority platform. That is where you want to meet them.
Build your business presence there first. Understand how the platform works, learn what your audience responds to, and serve them well. You can gradually expand to other platforms as your business and capacity grow.
Decide What Consistency Means for Your Schedule
Consistency doesn't necessarily mean posting every day. You have a business to run, so your content schedule should be realistic and sustainable.
Ask yourself:
• Can I realistically post daily?
• Can I post three times a week?
• Would twice a week work better?
• Can I commit to posting at least once every week?
Choose what works with your schedule and stick to it. But definitely avoid disappearing for months at a time, you want your audience to remember you, right?
When your posting pattern becomes consistent, your audience begins to understand when to expect content from you. Consistency builds familiarity, and familiarity helps your business stay top of mind.
Offer Valuable Content
Give people a reason to pay attention whenever your business shows up online. Your audience is busy too. If someone takes time out of their schedule to engage with your business, cherish that attention by consistently delivering content that is useful, relevant and valuable to them.
Your content could educate them, answer their questions, solve a small problem, introduce them to your products or simply help them make a better decision.
Don't just show up. Show up with something worth their time.
Branding Sets You Apart
Branding helps your business become recognizable. Your audience should be able to come across your content and have that feeling of “I know this brand” even before they finish reading.
Your brand colours, logo, visual identity and brand voice should remain consistent. As you begin to expand to other platforms, carry that same identity with you. You don't want your Instagram looking like one business and your page looking like another. Different platforms, same recognizable business.
Follow Up Consistently
Consistency shouldn't stop after someone makes a purchase. Follow up with your customers and find out about their experience with your business. This is especially important for customers who place orders online.
Your follow-up can be as simple as checking:
• Did they receive their product?
• Did it arrive in good condition?
• Were they satisfied with their purchase?
• Is there anything you could have done better?
Also, consistently appreciate and celebrate your loyal customers. Let them know that you don't see them as just another sale. People naturally want to return to businesses where they feel seen, appreciated and valued.
Finally...
Showing up consistently is bigger than simply posting every day. You want consistency to become part of how you run and present your business.
Be consistent in:
• Knowing your audience
• Showing up at a sustainable pace
• Providing valuable content
• Maintaining your brand identity
• Following up with your customers
Stay consistent in these five areas and you will be doing your business a great deal of good.
So, get to work, business owner!
