Thank God for the gift of another day, the first day of June.

From January, it looks like a mission impossible but look at us now, rejoicing for a new month, isn't that amazing?

I don't have much to say, just want to wish you a happy new month and pray that the month favours us through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Happy June my Family.

Cheers ๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฅ‚

โฃ
โฃ
In a quiet neighbourhood, there lived a man named Emeka and his wife, Nkechi.โฃ
โฃ
They were newly married and Emeka had hopes of living a calm and peaceful married life with his wife, but opposite was the case.โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
Nkechi was known for her fiery temper and endless quarrels. She picked fights with Emeka over the smallest things - his late return from work, his conversations with neighbours, even when he stayed home to watch his football matches, she still complained of him wasting precious time watching things that doesn't fetch money. โฃ
โฃ
No moment was peaceful in their home. โฃ
โฃ
Nkechiโ€™s mother and best friend often advised her after that Emeka had complained to them. โฃ
โฃ
"Nkechi, this anger will destroy your marriage. Calm down and trust your husband". โฃ
โฃ
But she would snap, "Mind your business, I know how to handle my home"! Even her mother was surprised to how she was behaving because she never raised her like that.โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
Her worst habit was attacking any woman she saw near Emeka - market women, colleagues, even distant relatives. โฃ
โฃ
She would scream, insult and sometimes even trying to fight them accusing them of trying to steal her husband. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
Emeka was exhausted, but no amount of pleading made her change. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
One day, after Nkechi publicly humiliated a nurse who had only asked Emeka for directions, he decided heโ€™d had enough. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
"If she wants to fight every woman she sees, let her meet her match", he thought. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
Emeka left home one day and didn't return for two full days, he spent days thinking about how he was going to live with such a quarrelsome wife for the rest of his life. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
He ensured that his both lines were off so that Nkechi wouldn't contact him.โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
On one of the days that he was away from home, he ran into an old acquaintance of his who was then a soldier. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
They got talking and Emeka opened up to her about his struggles in his marriage which was barely a year.โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
The lady suggested a plan to Emeka to curb his wife's excessive aggression and quarrels.โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
The evening of the third day that Emeka was away from home, he came back with a tall, stern-faced and well dressed woman. "Nkechi, meet my friend, Ada. Sheโ€™s an old classmate visiting for a few days", he said calmly. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
Nkechiโ€™s eyes burned with rage. "Old friend? What nonsense! You think you can disappear for three days and show up with your girlfriend into my house? She lunged at Ada, raising her hand to slap her. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
But before her palm could land, Ada - trained in combat - caught Nkechiโ€™s wrist in a firm grip. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
"Madam, I advise you to calm down", Ada said coolly. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
Nkechi, shocked but still defiant, tried to pull free.โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
"Let me go, you husband snatcher!" She swung her other hand, but Ada swiftly twisted her arm behind her back, making Nkechi yelp in pain. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
"Listen carefully", Ada said in a low, commanding tone.โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
"I am a soldier, not one of the women you bully. If you raise your hand at me again, Iโ€™ll show you real crase, because you married a calm man, you think everyone is like him".โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
Nkechi struggled, but Adaโ€™s grip was unbreakable. Emeka watched silently, refusing to intervene. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
For the first time, Nkechi felt fear instead of rage. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
For the next two days, Ada stayed in the house and Nkechi avoided her like a plague but still sulking. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
But because she couldn't keep her cool for a long time, she tried to pick another fight with Emeka.โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
Ada tried to not meddle in a couple's fight, but Nkechi became unruly and disrespectful to Emeka which made Ada to intervene.โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
One morning that Nkechi prevented Emeka from leaving the house because he refused to respond to her bickerings, the soldier stood up from where she was watching television. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
"Enough! You disgrace yourself, your parents and your husband with this behaviour. โฃ
If you donโ€™t change, one day, youโ€™ll push him away for good."โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
Nkechi opened her mouth to argue, but Adaโ€™s sharp glare silenced her. Deep down, she knew Ada was right.โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
When Ada left a few days later, Nkechi was a different woman. She no longer attacked every woman in sight. She listened when Emeka spoke and even apologized to those she had wronged. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
Her mother and friend were shocked but relieved. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
Emeka smiled to himself. His plan had worked. โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
Sometimes, it took facing a stronger force to learn humility. โฃ

22/05/2026

Going through my gallery, I saw pictures of my cousins and I couldn't help but remember the times we spent growing up together in the village.

One of such memories was the ones we were always sitting at Nne-Ukwu's feet every evening listening to stories of things that happened years passed or stories that were told to her by her own grandmother.

It was such a beautiful time but such doesn't happen anymore because there's little or no more "community" and the children would rather play games on their phones than gather around an old woman (who most of their mothers term witches) to listen to stories.

I have taken it upon myself to retell one of such stories.

Once upon a time, in the shimmering depths of the sea, lived a curious mermaid named Ekemma.

Unlike her kin, who revelled in the enchantment of the ocean, Ekemma longed for adventure beyond the waves.

The tales of humans, of their laughter, their music and their vibrant world, filled her heart with a yearning she could no longer ignore.

One day, filled with determination in her heart, Ekemma swam to the surface, her shimmering tail glistening in the sunlight. As she broke through the water, she caught sight of a majestic kingdom up on the hills - her new world awaited.

Wandering along the sandy shore, Ekemma marvelled at everything - the colours, the sounds, the scents of flowers in bloom, these things fascinated her. She stumbled upon a young man playing some music with a flute. The music soothed her soul.

It was here that fate led her to Prince Ekwedike, a kind-hearted young man with laughter that echoed like music. Their eyes met and in that instant, an unbreakable bond formed.

Ekemma claims to have run from a far away kingdom because she was being married off to a wicked old man. The prince took her to the village and made some of the women get her a hut and provide all she needed.

As days turned into weeks, Ekemma and Ekwedike explored the kingdom together, sharing dreams and secrets under the moonlit sky. Their love blossomed like the most beautiful flower and soon, they were wed in a grand ceremony that united the land and sea unknown to the rest of the people.

The villagers adored Ekemma, unaware of her true nature, as she brought joy and warmth to their lives plus she used her magical powers to heal them of many illnesses.

But beneath the ocean, a storm brewed. The Ocean Queen, Ekemmaโ€™s mother, felt her daughterโ€™s absence deeply.

With a heart full of anger, rage and worry, she summoned her magic to locate her wayward daughter. When the queen discovered Ekemmaโ€™s happiness in the human world, she was furious and determined to bring her back.

One fateful evening, as Ekemma and Ekwedike revelled in their love at the riverbank while others went about their businesses like washing and fetching water, they heard a disturbing sound from the water, there seems to be a storm and before long the Ocean Queen appeared before them in a swirl of seafoam and light.

The villagers and the prince gasped, filled with fear fell on their knees and begged to be pardoned by the ocean queen because they had heard how brutal she could be.

But Ekemma didn't feel surprised but disdain.

The prince asked her why she was not referencing the ocean queen but before she could speak the queen revealed that Ekemma was her daughter and everyone looked shocked to know that their calm and passionate soon to be queen is the daughter of the brutal ocean queen.

โ€œEkemma! You are a daughter of the sea and your place is with me!โ€ she commanded, her voice resonating like thunder.

The villagers were shocked, their hearts heavy with sorrow. They had grown to love Ekemma and Ekwedike and the thought of losing her was unbearable.

Ekwedike, with tears in his eyes, pleaded, โ€œPlease, let her stay! She belongs here with us and we love her too!โ€

But the Ocean Queenโ€™s heart was unyielding. โ€œYou must come home, my daughter. You cannot abandon your true nature for these mortals.โ€

With a heavy heart, Ekemma faced the impossible choice. She looked at Ekwedike, his anguish mirrored in her own. Together, they had built a life filled with love and laughter and now, they had two beautiful children who were the embodiment of their love.

โ€œI cannot leave them,โ€ she whispered, her heart breaking into pieces within her chest. But the queenโ€™s magic was powerful.

In a flash of light and a crashing wave, Ekemma found herself transformed back into her mermaid form, the pull of the ocean overwhelming her.

As she swam away, a deep sadness enveloped her. She turned back to see Ekwedike and her children on the shore, their faces filled with tears. The ocean swallowed her and she felt the weight of her decision crush her spirit.

Though she ruled the sea as the Ocean Queenโ€™s daughter, Ekemma's heart remained tied to the land and the family she had left behind.

Day after day, she gazed towards the surface, the laughter of her children and the warmth of Ekwedike forever etched in her memory.

And so, the mermaid who once sought adventure found herself trapped in a world of sorrow, a bittersweet reminder that some choices come at a price, leaving an indelible mark on the heart.

But she was comforted by the daily adulation poured on her by her earthly family and the villagers and in turn she blesses them.

The other mermaids and mermen were jealous and angry that she gets all the prayers and praises but the ocean queen warned them not to disturb Ekemma nor the villagers because that was their only consolations even though she also wanted such for herself but she loved her daughter too much to be jealous of her.

THE END

Someday soon, you'd look back and smile at the battles you have won and the hurdles you had surmounted and when that time comes, you'd be super proud of yourself for not giving up.

But until then, keep showing up keep grinding and keep building.

The heavy gates of the estate clicked shut behind us, but the sense of being followed didn't vanish. โฃ
โฃ
I didn't take the main path toward the grand entrance. Instead, I led Oyin through the side garden, weaving through the shadows of the hibiscus bushes until we reached the servantโ€™s quarters at the back.โฃ
โฃ
I couldn't bring her into the main house. Not yet. The sight of us together-two identical faces, one polished by luxury and the other weathered by a pain I was only beginning to grasp, would cause an explosion I wasn't ready for. โฃ
โฃ
My parents had questions to answer. Secrets about our birth had been buried for twenty years and I needed to control the moment they were dug up.โฃ
โฃ
"๐“๐š๐ค๐ž ๐œ๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ก๐ž๐ซ," I whispered to two of my most trusted maids, handing Oyin over. โฃ
โฃ
"Bathe her, feed her and for heavenโ€™s sake, do not let anyone see her. If a word of this leaks, youโ€™ll be out on the street before sundown."โฃ
โฃ
Oyin looked at me with those wide, haunted eyes, her silence louder than any scream. I squeezed her hand one last time before slipping away to change from the casual worn out clothes into something befitting the daughter of the master.โฃ
โฃ
โฃ
As I stepped into the main living room, the atmosphere was thick enough to choke on. โฃ
โฃ
My parents were there, pacing. The moment they heard the sound of my slippers, their heads snapped toward me.โฃ
โฃ
"Bella! Where have you been?" my father barked, his worry quickly sharpening into anger.โฃ
โฃ
"Good evening, Dad. Mum," I said casually, not slowing my pace as I headed for the stairs. "I was just out. No need for the drama."โฃ
โฃ
"๐‰๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ?" My mother stepped into my path, her eyes scanning me for any sign of the chaos Iโ€™d just walked through. โฃ
โฃ
"Youโ€™ve been gone for hours. Your phone was off. We were about to call the estate security."โฃ
โฃ
"I was just at a friendโ€™s house here in the estate," I lied smoothly, reaching for the bannister. "Time got away from us."โฃ
โฃ
"A friend?" My motherโ€™s voice went high and skeptical. She stepped closer, her arms folded tightly. โฃ
โฃ
"Since when do you associate with anyone in this estate, Bella? Youโ€™ve spent all these years calling everyone here 'boring' and 'stuck up.' Which friend, exactly?"โฃ
โฃ
I felt the weight of Oyinโ€™s presence just a few yards away in the back house. I felt the heat of the Princeโ€™s pursuit closing in. โฃ
โฃ
My motherโ€™s interrogation felt small, yet incredibly dangerous.โฃ
โฃ
"I'm tired, Mum," I said, giving her a look that signaled the end of the conversation. โฃ
โฃ
I didn't wait for her rebuttal. I simply turned and strolled up the stairs, my slippers slapping the tiled stair in a steady, defiant rhythm. โฃ
โฃ
I needed the sanctuary of my room to think, to plan and to figure out how to protect a sister I hadn't known existed until this morning.โฃ

The world felt too noisy and bright for me. The lady, the one who has my face, was pulling my hand. โฃ
โฃ
She looked just like me, but she wore expensive clothes and smelled of fancy perfumes. โฃ
โฃ
She seemed panicked. Even though she looked rich and powerful, I was terrified for her. โฃ
โฃ
She didn't realize how much danger we were in.โฃ
โฃ
I wanted to run away or tell her to save herself. โฃ
โฃ
The Prince was looking for me, the girl who had escaped him. He didn't care about a girl like her. โฃ
โฃ
I thought that if she just let me go, she could quietly go back to her safe life.โฃ
โฃ
But she wouldn't let go. Her tight grip made me remember terrible things from the Palace. I remembered the Princeโ€™s scary presence and how the air felt heavy before he hurt me. โฃ
โฃ
I remembered crawling to the Queen, hoping she would help me like a mother. โฃ
โฃ
Instead, she stepped on my fingers with her royal shoe and looked at me with hate.โฃ
โฃ
I tried to speak, but I couldn't. โฃ
โฃ
Thinking about how Adebola and the Queen treated me made my throat feel dry, just like I felt the night I was to be sent to my ancestors.โฃ
โฃ
As we got closer to the estate, I felt a strange pull toward it. It felt like home - the place where I used to work in the shadows. โฃ
โฃ
I felt like I didn't belong in the light with the posh lady, I belonged in the poor areas where no one noticed me.โฃ
โฃ
Suddenly, I saw two men watching us. They weren't just walking by, they were trailing us. โฃ
โฃ
I tried to point them out and scream a warning to the lady, but no sound came out. โฃ
โฃ
I haven't spoken a word to anyone since that night and I was afraid my silence would get us both killed.โฃ
โฃ
How do I regain my voice?โฃ

โฃ
I stood frozen behind the heavy mahogany doors of the Kingโ€™s inner study, the silk of my iro suddenly felt heavy. โฃ
โฃ
Through the slight crack in the door, the Kabiyesiโ€™s laughter boomed - a sound of genuine, rare delight that sent a frantic chill down my spine.โฃ
โฃ
"๐“๐ฐ๐ข๐œ๐ž ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ณ๐ž, ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ฌ๐š๐ฒ?" the Kingโ€™s voice resonated. โฃ
โฃ
"Two of them? Adebola, this is a sign from the ancestors. Bring them both to the palace. I must meet them both, together. We need to start the cleansing rituals immediately. I also need to confirm my suspicions."โฃ
โฃ
My heart hammered against my ribs, like a trapped bird in a cage. โฃ
โฃ
๐“๐ฐ๐จ. โฃ
โฃ
The word echoed in my mind like a death sentence. I had been so certain that my plans had reached their final, silent conclusion, the guards assured me. โฃ
โฃ
The elimination should have been absolute, the "๐ฆ๐š๐ข๐" was supposed to be a ghost, a memory buried in the dust far from the palace gates.โฃ
โฃ
To hear that not only had she surfaced, but that she stood beside her twin, meant that my sins, I mean our sins are going to catch up with us.โฃ
โฃ
I turned away before the King could emerge, my footsteps silent on the expensive rugs as I hurried toward my private chambers.โฃ
โฃ
My breath came in shallow, rough bursts. If both girls were brought before the King, he may connect the dots of their birth - and my hand in the maid's misery - would be laid bare.โฃ
โฃ
The moment I crossed the threshold of my room, I didn't even wait to sit. "๐Œ๐จ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ง!" I hissed.โฃ
โฃ
My most trusted confidante appeared from the shadows of the dressing area, her eyes instantly reading the tremor in my hands. โฃ
โฃ
I bolted the door, the click sounding like a gavel.โฃ
โฃ
"She is alive. She has even united with her sister, that Bella girl, the one with the Yankee accent" I whispered, my voice thick with suppressed panic. โฃ
โฃ
"Adebola has found them. He is bringing them here, Mosun. โฃ
โฃ
The King knows. I thought we had finished this, but the girl is like a w**d that refuses to die."โฃ
โฃ
I paced the length of the room, the gold jewelry at my wrists clinking discordantly. โฃ
โฃ
"If she speaks... if the King sees them together and starts asking the questions I have spent these past months silencing..."โฃ
โฃ
Mosun stepped forward, her face a mask of cold, unwavering calm. โฃ
โฃ
She placed a firm hand on my shoulder, grounding me.โฃ
โฃ
"The Prince is young and arrogant, he thinks he has won a game," Mosun said, her voice a low, steadying hum.โฃ
โฃ
"But he lacks the precision required for this. You must breathe, My Queen. โฃ
โฃ
The King knows only what the Prince has told him and the Prince has not captured them yet."โฃ
โฃ
She leaned closer, her eyes narrowing with a dark, sharp intensity.โฃ
โฃ
"I will not leave this to the guards or luck this time. I will personally handle the situation. โฃ
โฃ
Before they even reach the palace gates, I will ensure that the 'complication' is removed permanently. โฃ
โฃ
You have carried this burden long enough, let me silence the ghost once and for all."โฃ

โฃ
Morality sounds like a big, fancy word, but it is actually something we deal with every single day. โฃ
โฃ
Simply put, morality is the set of rules in our heads that tells us what is "๐ ๐จ๐จ๐" and what is "๐›๐š๐." โฃ
โฃ
Whether you are deciding whether to cheat on a test or whether to tell the truth when you break something, you are dealing with morality.โฃ
โฃ
Where Do Our Rules Come From?โฃ
โฃ
Most of us don't just wake up knowing what is right. We learn it from different places.โฃ
โฃ
Our parents are usually the first ones to tell us "๐๐จ๐ง'๐ญ ๐ก๐ข๐ญ" or "๐ฌ๐ก๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ญ๐จ๐ฒ๐ฌ."โฃ
โฃ
Teachers and school rules help us understand fairness and respect for others.โฃ
โฃ
Many people follow moral codes based on their faith or the traditions of their community.โฃ
โฃ
It is easy to be a "๐ ๐จ๐จ๐ ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง" when things are going well. The real test happens when doing the right thing costs you something.โฃ
โฃ
For example, if your best friend does something wrong, morality puts you in a tough spot. Do you stay loyal to your friend and keep quiet or do you tell the truth because it is the "๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ" thing to do? โฃ
โฃ
This is called a ๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐š๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ž๐ฆ๐ฆ๐š. There isn't always a perfect answer and that is why dealing with morality can be so stressful.โฃ
โฃ
Why Does It Matter?โฃ
You might wonder, "Why should I care about being moral if I can get away with being bad?" There are two main reasons.โฃ
1.Guilt and Peace of Mind: When we go against what we believe is right, we feel bad inside. This is our "conscience" talking. Doing the right thing helps us feel at peace with ourselves.โฃ
โฃ
2.Trust: If everyone lied or stole, society would fall apart. We follow moral rules so that we can trust our neighbours, friends and even strangers.โฃ
โฃ
Dealing with morality isn't about being perfect. โฃ
โฃ
Everyone makes mistakes and does things they regret. The important part is learning from those mistakes and trying to be a little bit better the next time.โฃ
โฃ
In the end, morality is like a compass. It might not tell you exactly which path to take, but it points you in the right direction so you don't get lost.โฃ
โฃ
Morality isn't just about following rules, it's about how we treat people when no one is watching.โฃ

I sat in the back of the Prado, the Lagos heat doing little to wilt the starch in my white collar. Outside the tinted windows, the city was a blur of yellow buses and frantic energy, but inside, the air was still and cool. โฃ
โฃ
My phone vibrated against my thigh.โฃ
โฃ
"Speak," I commanded.โฃ
โฃ
"They are together, My Prince," the agentโ€™s voice crackled, sounding breathless. โฃ
โฃ
"But there is a complication. Or perhaps, a miracle."โฃ
โฃ
"Explain yourself, what do you mean by a miracle?"โฃ
โฃ
"There are two of them. Identical. Mirror images, My Prince. The corper and the ghost of the maid from the village. โฃ
โฃ
They are the same, save for the hunger evident on one and the richness on the other. It is Oyin and Bellaโ€”they are twins."โฃ
โฃ
The phone nearly slipped from my grip. For a moment, the practiced mask of royalty fizzled out, my eyes widening as the realization hit me like a physical blow. โฃ
โฃ
๐“๐ฐ๐จ? I had spent months hunting a shadow, a singular girl who had dared to vanish, only to discover that the universe had provided a spare. The shock quickly turned into a sharp thrill.โฃ
โฃ
"Two..." I whispered, the word tasting like fine wine.โฃ
โฃ
"Should we apprehend them now? They are moving toward the outskirts of the market."โฃ
โฃ
"No!" I snapped, my mind racing. "Do not move in yet. โฃ
โฃ
Do not chase them, I don't want them frightened. Just follow. I want to see exactly where this 'Yankee girl' is taking her sister. โฃ
โฃ
I want to see the hole they plan to hide in."โฃ
โฃ
"Understood, My Prince."โฃ
โฃ
"Stay out of sight," I instructed. "I want them cornered where their family name can't protect them. I am ten minutes away."โฃ
โฃ
I disconnected the call, a slow, dark smile spreading across my face. My father, the Kabiyesi, thought I was searching for a "maid" to atone for my sins. He didn't understand. I didn't want atonement, I wanted the original. I wanted the one who had the audacity to run from me, I loved how she begged me, her tears gave me joy.โฃ
โฃ
And now, I had the chance to have bothโ€”the one whom I broke and the one who is trying to fix her.โฃ
โฃ
The joy was a frantic thing, bubbling up in my chest until I couldn't keep it contained within the silence of the car. โฃ
โฃ
I needed him to know. I needed the King to understand that his son had not only succeeded but had doubled the prize, I hope he would let me have peace now and give me the order to the throne.โฃ
โฃ
I tapped the speed dial for the palace.โฃ
โฃ
"Kabiyesi," I said the moment the line opened, my voice vibrating with a manic sort of triumph. โฃ
โฃ
"Father, you won't believe what the gods have dropped into my lap. โฃ
โฃ
The hunt is over and the reward? It is twice what we imagined, I will give you full details once I return."โฃ
