A High Court in Asaba has ordered the remand of former police officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman, along with his team members at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre, following the public ex*****on of a suspect named Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State, on April 26.
The five dismissed officers were remanded in custody on Monday, June 1, subsequent to their arraignment over the extrajudicial k!lling of Ogidi, an incident that has incited nationwide outrage.
In April, the Inspector General of Police sanctioned the dismissal and prosecution of Usman and other officers implicated in Ogidi's fatal shooting on April 26, 2026.
Ogidi met his demise at the hands of ASP Usman, an officer affiliated with the Area Command in Effurun, despite being handcuffed and pleading for his life in a widely circulated video that has provoked public indignation across the nation.
The deceased suspect was reportedly apprehended while attempting to dispatch a parcel containing a Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition before the tragic incident transpired.
Prior to his de@th, Ogidi was observed in a viral video, tearfully promising to guide the officers to a location in Sapele where the individual responsible for sending him the parcel resides. He fervently maintained his innocence concerning the parcel in question.
