The 2027 Election: Tension Arises in Kano as Residents Set Ablaze Campaign Posters of Presidential Candidate Peter and Running Mate, ObiKwankwaso

Unrest was reported in the Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State, where residents allegedly set fire to campaign posters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

A video obtained by DAILY POST reveals that the NDC chairman in the local government area, Bilyaminu Bachirawa, was forcibly removed from a moving motorcycle amidst the turmoil. Reports suggest that he narrowly avoided being attacked as agitated youths pursued the motorcycle while shouting.

This incident occurred shortly after the NDC announced Obi as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election on Saturday evening. Following his nomination, Obi officially introduced Kwankwaso as his running mate.

Obi and Kwankwaso recently departed from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the NDC, citing internal conflicts and ongoing legal disputes within their former party.

A High Court in Asaba has ordered the remand of former police officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman, along with his team members at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre, following the public ex*****on of a suspect named Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State, on April 26.

The five dismissed officers were remanded in custody on Monday, June 1, subsequent to their arraignment over the extrajudicial k!lling of Ogidi, an incident that has incited nationwide outrage.

In April, the Inspector General of Police sanctioned the dismissal and prosecution of Usman and other officers implicated in Ogidi's fatal shooting on April 26, 2026.

Ogidi met his demise at the hands of ASP Usman, an officer affiliated with the Area Command in Effurun, despite being handcuffed and pleading for his life in a widely circulated video that has provoked public indignation across the nation.

The deceased suspect was reportedly apprehended while attempting to dispatch a parcel containing a Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition before the tragic incident transpired.

Prior to his de@th, Ogidi was observed in a viral video, tearfully promising to guide the officers to a location in Sapele where the individual responsible for sending him the parcel resides. He fervently maintained his innocence concerning the parcel in question.

In 2019, Senator Akpabio, who was serving as the Minister of the Niger Delta at the time, approached me in Port Harcourt with a request for President Buhari to secure 25% of the votes. I responded by questioning the feasibility of achieving such a percentage. I stated that if it were a matter of fabricating results, I could accomplish that. However, the only legitimate means for President Buhari to obtain 25% would be through the electoral process. Throughout my tenure, I did not encounter any governor who confronted federal authority as assertively as I did. When you align yourself with the populace, even the presence of American Marines will not cause you to yield.
