OIL PALM PLANTATION MAINTENANCE GUIDE: A STEP-BY-STEP APPROACH

Many farmers focus on planting but forget that proper maintenance determines the success of the plantation. Here is a simple strategy:

✅ MONTH 1–12 (IMMATURE PALMS)

1️⃣ Ring Weeding

• Keep a 1–1.5 metre w**d-free circle around each palm.

• This reduces competition for nutrients and water.

2️⃣ Manual Slashing

• Slash w**ds between rows every 6–8 weeks.

• Leave the cut w**ds as mulch to conserve moisture and improve soil health.

3️⃣ Fertilizer Application

• Apply fertilizer at the recommended rate.

• Spread it evenly around the palm, not too close to the stem.

4️⃣ Pest Monitoring

• Inspect palms regularly for rodents, insects, and diseases.

• Take action immediately when signs appear.

USING HERBICIDES SAFELY

If you choose herbicides:

✔ Ring w**d first around the palm.

✔ Spray only when there is little or no wind.

✔ Keep the nozzle close to the ground.

✔ Avoid spraying near the spear (growing point).

✔ Shield young palms with sacks if necessary.

⚠️ Herbicides can damage oil palm because oil palm is highly sensitive, especially at the centre spear where growth occurs.

BEST PRACTICE

👉 Use manual clearing around young palms and carefully controlled herbicide application between rows.

This combination reduces costs, protects the palms, and keeps the plantation clean.

Remember: A well-maintained plantation can increase growth, reduce mortality, and bring earlier and better yields.

Its black coat isn't a different species—it's one of nature's rarest genetic masterpieces. 🖤🐆

This incredible black panther is actually a melanistic leopard, carrying a rare genetic mutation that causes its body to produce an excess of melanin—the pigment responsible for its dark coat.

But here's the fascinating part...
Look closely under the right light, and you'll still see the leopard's famous rosette patterns hidden beneath the black fur, quietly revealing its true identity.

These elusive cats are most often found in dense tropical forests across parts of India, Southeast Asia, and, more rarely, Africa, where their darker coat may provide better camouflage during low-light hunts beneath the forest canopy.

What appears to be an entirely different animal is actually the same powerful predator—simply painted by genetics in a completely different shade.

Sometimes, nature doesn't create a new species... it simply rewrites the masterpiece using a darker brush.
