Hey guys,
The organised labour has instructed workers in the power sector to down tools and commence an indefinite strike over pending labour issues with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE ) on Tuesday, August 16, converged on the headquarters of the TCN in Abuja.

What their issues are: The aggrieved workers complained about the alleged failure of the Federal Government of Nigeria to pay the entitlement of former staff of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in December 2019.

When Nigerians should expect blackout: They said this is a prelude to an indefinite strike action expected to start on August 17.

Hey guys,
The latest salary survey, conducted by BudgIT, across the 36 states of Nigeria reveals that some states have not paid some civil servants in 30 months.

According to Mr Joseph Anthony (Pseudonym), a secondary school health institution worker in Abia, the Abia state government has not paid salaries in the last ten (10) months. The payment made to him in 2021 was his basic salary, which did not include other allowances.

The delay in salary payments for civil servants in Nigeria has been prominent for at least half a century. To make the situation even worse, these delays are evident at the national and sub-national levels. This state of affairs has been affirmed to constitute a breach of the basic contractual provisions that exist between an employer and employee and failed to recognise national legislation on employee rights at the continental and international levels.

Hey guys,

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders from 19 northern states and the FCT have denied endorsing any aspirant as the party’s preferred candidate for 2023 presidential election.

The stakeholders said this in a communiqué at the end of their meeting in Abuja on Monday which was read by former Jigawa governor, Mr Sule Lamido.

Lamido said that the PDP presidential candidate would emerged from the party’s national convention slated to hold from May 28 to May 29.

“We will like to state from the onset that there is nothing called the northern PDP.

Our coming together as key stakeholders from the northern states is only for the purpose of debunking any notion or impression which might have been created by Prof. Ango Abdullahi’s statement about the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) having shortlisted consensus PDP presidential candidates.

“The PDP as conceived by its founding fathers is and remains the foremost national political platform wherein the democratic aspirations of its teeming members can be actualised devoid of any sectional consideration.

“Our party is neither northern nor southern, but Nigeria,” he said.

“We maintain that all our aspirants are qualified to occupy the Nigerian presidency under the PDP banner.

“We shall continue to support, promote and campaign and win the presidency by the candidate produced by our national convention scheduled for May 22 and 29.”

Hey guys,

Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President of Nigeria has formally declared to run for President in 2023.

Osinbajo made the declaration in a video released on Monday morning after months of speculation.

He said, “for the past seven (7) years, I have served as Vice President under a true Nigerian patriot, President Muhammadu Buhari.

“In these 7 years, while on the train of duty and service, I traversed every part of our country, meeting Nigerians of every cadre, class, tribe and walks of life, both young and old; I MET YOU.

“I’ve stood where you stand and sat where you sit. I know and I understand our hopes, aspirations and fears from a place of relatable proximity; and I believe that in those hopes and aspirations are the seeds for the great Nigeria that we all desire.

“I believe that the very reason why the Almighty God gave me these experiences, these insights, and these opportunities, is that they must be put to the use of our country and its great peoples.

“This is why today, with utmost humility, I formally declare my intention to run for the office of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, on the platform of our great party, the All Progressives Congress.”

Hey guys,
Tundun, daughter of the late MKO Abiola and reporter with Arise, has criticised her sister, Hafsat, for using their father’s name to promote the presidential bid of Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi.

The Kogi governor’s presidential ambition campaign slogan is ‘Hope 2023’, a slogan similar to that used by Abiola during the 1993 presidential election campaign, Hope'93.

Bello also appointed Hafsat Abiola-Costello, one of late Abiola’s daughters, as the director-general of his presidential campaign organisation.

On Sunday, April 03, 2022, Hafsat Abiola said that one of the similarities between her late philanthropist father and the Kogi governor, was that they both refused to have political godfathers.

Speaking in an interview on Arise TV, Hafsat said she accepted the appointment because Bello shares some qualities with that of her father.

Reacting to the development on Monday, April 04, 2022,while co-anchoring a Morning programme, Tundun said her sister does not have the right to “exploit” their father’s name for Bello’s benefit.

“I have come to expect certain things even from that individual. Just because it is not surprising doesn’t mean that it is not staggeringly inappropriate,” she said.

“I’m referring to my half-sister, Hafsat, who is the DG of the Yahaya Bello campaign and her making comparisons to my dad. There are a lot of political players in his team; not one of them feels the need to throw their fathers under the bus for the sake of their principal.

“Come out and talk about your principal, his antecedents, his plans for the future of Nigeria and leave daddy out of it.

“It is not her right because it is not her name. It is our name and it is also a name of future generations of Abiola yet unborn who should be proud of a legacy.

“My father was tortured because UN does consider solitary confinement as torture. He was tortured then murdered and has left his legacy — only for it to be abused in this fashion.

“Everybody should just leave his name out of it, especially dishonesty, false equivalence, and cynical exploitation of a genuine struggle. It is nauseating.”
