The Coffee That Changed Two Lives
Every morning at exactly 7:15, Emma stopped at the same little coffee shop before heading to work. She always ordered a large latte and quietly sat by the window for a few minutes before leaving.
One rainy Tuesday, she noticed an elderly man standing outside. His clothes were soaked, and although he wasn't asking anyone for money, he looked exhausted. People hurried past him without making eye contact.
Emma walked outside and asked, "Have you had breakfast today?"
The man smiled politely and replied, "Not yet. I'm just trying to stay out of the rain."
She invited him inside, bought him a hot breakfast and coffee, and sat with him for a while. His name was George. He explained that after losing his wife and facing unexpected medical bills, he had lost his apartment. He wasn't looking for pity just hoping life would give him one more chance.
Before leaving, Emma handed him a small notebook.
"Write down every place you apply for work," she said. "I'll help however I can."
Over the next few weeks, Emma checked in with George every morning. She helped him create a résumé, bought him a clean shirt for interviews, and encouraged him whenever he felt like giving up.
One month later, George got a job as a maintenance assistant at a local community center. It wasn't glamorous, but it was enough to help him rent a small room and begin rebuilding his life.
Years passed.
One afternoon, Emma's young son was involved in a bicycle accident while she was at work. A stranger nearby rushed to help him, stayed with him until the ambulance arrived, and comforted him until Emma reached the hospital.
When Emma walked into the room, she froze.
The stranger sitting beside her son was George.
With tears in his eyes, he said, "You once told me that kindness should never stop with one person. I promised myself I'd pass it on whenever I had the chance."
Emma smiled through her tears.
That day reminded her of something priceless:
