هل قد مضى؟؟
هل ماتَ مَن ربَّى الأنامَ بيانا
وسقاهُمُ سُننَ الهُدى إحسانا؟
هل مات أستاذي الذي كَمْ أفْحَمَتْ
أقوالُه كذبًا وطاب لِسانا؟
هل مات أستاذي الذي كم أرشدَتْ
أقلامُهُ فكرا غَوَى وبنانا؟
هل مات من نَشَر العلوم ولم يُرد
شيئا سوى أن يُرضِيَ الرحمانا؟
هل ماتَ مَن ما زال يبذُلُ جهدَهُ
ليرُبِّي الأجيالَ والإخوانا؟
هل قد مضى من كان يحيي مجلسا
بفصاحة وبلاغة وهَدانا؟
هل ماتَ مَن بالزُّهدِ يُعرَف بيننا
وبحُسنِ أخلاقٍ غدا عُنوانا؟
هل ماتَ مَن بالشعر طاب لسانُه
وبعِلْمِه أحيا الدُّنا إيمانا؟
هل مات من بكتابِه وخِطَابِهِ
يُهدي العقولَ ويُوقظُ البلدانا ؟
يا قوم أسألكم أجيبوا: هل مضى
شيخي وأستاذي أبو سُفيانا؟
إن كان حقا، صاحبي خُذ عبرةً
واعمل لدار الخُلدِ لا دنيانا
يا ربّ بيّض وجهه يوم اللقا
واجعل له نورا يريه جِنانا

Has He Passed Away?
Has the one who raised the people with clarity
And nourished them with the Sunnah in kindness, died?
Has my teacher, whose words often silenced lies
And whose tongue was refined and pure, passed away?
Has my teacher, whose pen often guided
Wandering thoughts and straying hands, passed away?
Has the one who spread knowledge
Seeking nothing but Allah’s pleasure, passed away?
Has the one who tirelessly gave his effort
To nurture generations and brothers, passed away?
Has the one who would enliven a gathering
With eloquence, clarity, and guidance, passed away?
Has the one known among us for his modesty
And whose fine character became his hallmark, passed away?
Has the one whose tongue was sweet in poetry
And who revived hearts with his knowledge, passed away?
Has the one whose writings and speeches
Guided minds and awakened nations, passed away?
O people, I ask you, answer me:
Has my shaykh and teacher, Abū Sufyān, passed away?
If truly so, my friend, take a lesson,
And work for the eternal home, not this fleeting life.
O Lord, brighten his face on the Day of Meeting,
And grant him a light that leads him to the gardens of Paradise.
