As a man, do not allow anybody to tell you that it is their culture for you to pay millions as bride price. Agree to pay, but only if you are marrying a virgin. You cannot be paying through your nose for what another man ate for free or for urgent 5k. That is not marriage. That is cheating!

Please fact-check me. In pure African tradition, a husband did not pay a bride price to the girl's family for the bride. He actually paid the bride price for the virginity of the bride. That is why in pre-colonial African culture, such as Yoruba tradition, the groom sleeps with the bride on a piece of white cloth on their wedding day, and the next day, the stained white cloth is presented to the bride's family as proof of the bride's virtue. Any day the husband misbehaves, the bride's family present the a*o asa Ibale to him, to remind him that he met their daughter at home.

That asa Ibale culture was so important, that if the a*o funfun is not stained, the marriage is not consummated, and the so-called bride is disgraced and sent back to her parents.

Even Scripturally, the bride price was only paid for virgins. We see this in Exodus 22:17. That was why David paid a bride price for Michal in 1 Samuel 18:27, but did not pay a bride price for Abigail in 1 Samuel 25:42. Because Abigail was not a virgin.

Read it yourself in Isaiah 62:5:

"For as a young man marries a virgin, So shall your sons marry you; And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, So shall your God rejoice over you."

As a matter of fact, if the woman is not a virgin, it is you that the parents should be paying a dowry, or at least give her away in marriage for free and pay the marriage cost.

Modernity should not make us lose our culture or turn us into people who have no value for our tradition or our women to the extent that being sexually loose is termed sophistication. Mba!
