I SAW MY BEST FRIEND WEARING MY FIANCÈ'S SHIRT AND WHAT HAPPENED NEXT, YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT...

CHAPTER 1

My best friend and I were very close. Closer than anyone could ever imagine.
We met during our secondary school days, and from that moment, we became like sisters.

I grew up as an only child, so I never experienced what it felt like to have siblings.

But when Cynthia came into my life, she filled that space. She gave me love, care, and true friendship. With her by my side, I never felt lonely again.

But lately, I began to notice some changes in her behaviour. Something was different.

Ever since my fiancé, Jason, proposed to me, Cynthia had only visited me once. She hardly called. Most of the time, I was the one reaching out, and whenever I did, she always had one excuse or the other, she was either too busy or didn’t have time.

It felt like I was slowly losing my best friend, and I didn’t know why. I didn’t know what had gone wrong.

All I knew was that I missed her. I missed our laughter, our silly talks, our bond, everything we used to share.

So that day, I bumped into her on my way to the mall. My mum had called me to get some groceries for her, and I wasn’t expecting to see Cynthia there at all.

The moment I saw her, I rushed to her with smiles all over my face and hugged her tightly.

"I missed you so much bestiee.." I said.

"So, this is what you've been up to lately? What happened? Did anything happen to you? You rarely call these days and we rarely get to spend sometime with each other the way we used to..." I said, but the expression on her face screamed shocked.

"what happened? Why're you looking at me that way?" I asked.

Then my eyes fell on the shirt she was wearing.
It looked so familiar, like something I had seen before. It was a man’s shirt.

Wait...I froze. My mind started racing. And suddenly, it hit me. My eyes widened in disbelief and confusion.

"Is..n't this..s Ja.son's shirt you're wearing?" I asked, stammering.

She looked at me, then down at the shirt, and gave a nervous smile.

"No.. it's not." she stammered.

But I knew what I was seeing. That wasn’t just any shirt, it was Jason’s. Not only that, it was the very shirt I had customized for him on his last birthday.

"I know exactly what I'm saying, Cynthia.. I'm not blind. Why're you wearing my Fiance's shirt?" I asked, still looking on unbelievably.

"It's not what you think..." she said nervously and tensed

Then, before I could say anything else, Jason walked out of the other door of the car

My eyes flew in total shock!

They brought the D0gs to sleeep with me again that morning. This time it was not as painful as the last night. It was more easy but I felt pain.

After that they left me alone in the empty room. I was not even putting on my cl0thes, the door opened again and I was scared I thought they were bringing in the dogs for the third time. But It was Cynthia who opened the door.

Immediately I saw her I quickly felt relieved, I knew she came to pick me up.

“Dress up your self, we are leaving, your job is done.” Cynthia said and smile at me. But I was not smiling back at all, the experience I had with the dogs could not make me smile.

She took me out of the room and we went to meet the men who owned the dogs. They paid Cynthia, I saw them transfer money to her account.

“This is for your girl, my d0gs really enjoyed their time with her. We can’t wait to have her here again” one of the men said, his eyes were on me as he spoke. I just fake a smile and bent my head. I will never come here again, I said to myself.

Me and Cynthia left the big house, she took me in her car and we went straight to bank, we withdrew some money and then straight to Cynthia’s house.

We sat on the couch and she began to speak. “The man gave me 5million naira to give you.”

I got shocked at the first, five good million? Just one night with the dogs. What exactly do they do to make money ?” I asked.

Hahah ! Haha! Cynthia laughed. “See this is just the start, the more you do the more you get increase in your earnings from them.”

“No Cynthia am not doing anything anymore, I will use the five million to start a business,” said to her.

But she kept convincing me. She told me to sleeep with the dogs again. I told her no but she kept telling me that five million is not enough. And it not a new thing to me anymore.

I didn’t even know that Cynthia had never slept with the d0gs before, all she does was to bring girls to sleeep with the rich dogs while she earn her own commission. I even thought she was also into the business, I never knew she was their partner.

So she gave me the five million in cash, and then she told me to rent an apartment for myself and used the other money to set up the apartment.

I did exactly as she said. Got the apartment and set it up with bed and everything needed in a house. Through out that week poverty disappeared for a while because I was still spending from the 5 million.

The people in my neighborhood began to wonder how I suddenly changed, how I rented a new apartment. They thought I would continue to suffer after the death of my parents.

But by weekend all the money already finished in clothes and the new house I rented. I promise I would not repeat that dog business again. So I use the small money that remains to start a small shop at the front of my apartment.

But the business was not moving for me. No customer was coming to my provision store to buy anything and I was becoming poor like before.

So I had no choice than to call Cynthia again, I told myself, just one last time I would never repeat the dog business.

“I knew you would come to your senses, this is real business. Imagine making that amount of money every night, in one week you are already a multimillionaire” Cynthia says on the phone.

“I know, but I can’t keep sleeeping with dogs for my whole life, this is just the last one I will do” I said and ended the call.

“The next morning Cynthia, came and took me to the men again. There were called the dogs family.

We entered the house and she spoke with the men, “she wants to do another job” Cynthia said.

“She is here at the right time, my dogs really missed her, they Can’t wait to taste h£r again” the boss leader said. While I stood bending my head.

The house guards took me to the room where the D0gs would sleeep with me again. The guards were two, each hold gunns. They both left but one came back and opened the door. He looked at me and ask me a question. “Why did you come back to this place again ?”

“I needed money, I answered.

“You were paid five million the last time, that should be enough to create a new life for you, do you know the danger you are putting yourself?” The guard asked.

I seem not to understand why he was acting like he care.

“Do you care? And you are also working for this men, so you are no different from them” I said to him.

“Low your voice” he said. Looks back and front. “I don’t like this job am doing, I can’t even stop because they will find me, that is reason why I told you the d0g business is more dangerous than you see” the guard said and left.

I sat down there alone in fears. What the guard said was now sounding disturbing. What danger did exactly. The only thing is just to sleep with the d0gs and go, so what danger exactly, I thought.

I sat there waiting for the Dogs to come and have s£x with me. this will be my last business with them.

THEY LEFT SCHOOL FOR NIGHT CLUB AND THIS HAPPENED

FINAL CHAPTER

The siren grew louder and louder, cutting through the tense night air.

Henry’s grip on the gûn tightened. “Move into the car before I..”

Before he could finish, Yetunde shouted, “RUN!”

The girls took off toward the sound of the siren, their legs moving faster than they ever thought possible. Henry fîred a shót into the air.

PAM!

The sound made their ears ring, but they didn’t stop.

“Catch them!” Henry barked.

Tolu hesitated for a second, glancing between the girls and Henry. “They won’t get far!” she said, running after them.

The bush on both sides of the road was too thick to hide in, so the girls kept running straight, their breaths coming in shàrp, painful bursts.

Flashing red and blue lights appeared ahead.

“It’s the police! It’s the police!” Adaobi screamed, almost tripping over a stone.

Two police vans screeched to a stop in front of them. Officers jumped out, riflès raised.

“Hands up!” one officer shouted.

The girls raised their hands, gasping for air. “Please help us! They’re trying to kîdnàp us! They’re behind!” Chioma cried.

Henry’s car appeared in the distance. The moment Henry saw the police, he slammed the brakes, spun the car around, and tried to speed off.

“After them!” the lead officer ordered.

One police van took off after Henry and Tolu, while the other stayed with the girls.

“You’re safe now,” an officer said, quickly ushering them into the van. “We’ve been tracking these criminals for weeks.”

Inside the van, the girls sat shaking. Ife held Adaobi’s hand tightly, tears streaming down her cheeks. “I thought we were finished,” she whispered.

Back on the road, the sound of more gûnshots echoed.

PAM! PAM! PAM!

The officers who chased Henry’s car radioed back. “The criminals have been caught. The man and woman have been arrested. Bringing them in now. The other will be caught as well..”

When Henry and Tolu were brought to where the girls waited, the sight almost made Yetunde’s blóód boil.

Henry’s hands were cuffed behind his back, his face twisted in anger. Tolu refused to look at them, but Adaobi stepped forward.

“You betrayed us… and for what? Money?” her voice shook, but her eyes burned with hurt.

Tolu’s lips trembled for a second. She looked away, muttering, “I did what I had to do.”

“No,” Yetunde said firmly. “You did what a monster would do.”

The police pushed Henry and Tolu into the van. One officer turned to the girls.

“We’ll take you back to your school and contact your parents. You’re lucky you escaped tonight. Very lucky.”

The ride back was quiet. The girls were exhausted..their clothes torn, their bodies scratched, but they were alive.

When they arrived at the school, the headmistress was already outside with some teachers. She rushed to them, her eyes filled with shock and anger.

“What on earth happened?!” she demanded.

The girls couldn’t hold it in anymore. They burst into tears and told her everything..from sneaking out to the fake party, the kidnàpping, and how they almost didn’t make it back.

By the time they finished, the headmistress’s expression was a mix of anger and relief.

“You could have been kîlled,” she said sternly. “This is why we warn you about these reckless decisions. You’re lucky God gave you another chance. Go inside, clean yourselves, and be ready to meet your parents in the morning.”

The girls nodded silently, guilt heavy in their hearts.

The next morning, the sound of hurried footsteps and voices woke them up. When they opened their eyes, their parents were rushing into the room.

“Mummy!” Yetunde cried as her mother pulled her into a tight hug.

“My baby!” Ife’s father’s voice shook as he held her, tears rolling down his cheeks.

Chioma’s mother kissed her forehead again and again.

“God! Thank you for protecting them!”

The girls clung to their parents, some crying, some just holding on in silence. It felt like they had been gone for weeks, not just one night.

The inspector who arrived that morning to the school stood nearby, explaining how the police caught all the criminals.

“They will face the full law. You don’t have to be afraid anymore.”

As the parents thanked the police, the girls exchanged glances. They knew they would never forget what happened. That night had changed them forever.

That night, in the dormitory, they lay on their beds, unable to sleep. Every time they closed their eyes, they saw the masked men… the warehouse… the fire… Henry’s gûn.

Finally, Yetunde whispered, “From today, no more sneaking out. No more stupid risks.”

The others agreed quietly.

They had gone out looking for fun… but almost never came back.

And deep down, they knew...they would never forget that night for the rest of their lives.
..

THEY LEFT SCHOOL FOR NIGHT CLUB AND THIS HAPPENED…

CHAPTER 8

The curtain moved slowly, every second feeling like an hour.

Adaobi squeezed her eyes shut. Chioma’s hands trembled as she gripped Yetunde’s arm. Ife bit her lip so hard it almost blÈd.

The man’s hand was already halfway across the curtain when...

BANG!

A loud crash shook the house.

“What was that?!” one of the kidnappers shouted from the front.

Another voice called from outside, “Come quick! We found something!”

The man at the curtain stopped, turned, and hurried back toward the door.

Through the small gap, the girls saw him leave with the others.

The old man quickly came to the back room and whispered urgently, “They’re gone for now, but they’ll be back. You must leave this place immediately!”

“But… where will we go?” Chioma asked, fear in her voice.

“There’s a small path behind my farm,” the old man replied. “Follow it until you reach the main road. If you’re lucky, you might find help.”

The girls nodded quickly.

The old man led them out through the back. The night air was cool but heavy with tension. Crickets chirped loudly, mixing with the distant shouts of the kidnàppers.

“Go now! And don’t look back,” the old man said, waving them off.

“Thank you, sir… God bless you,” Yetunde whispered before they ran off.

They hurried down the narrow path, pushing through weeds and stepping over logs. Their hearts pounded with every sound.

Suddenly, bright headlights appeared on the road ahead.

“It’s a car!” Ife gasped.

Adaobi’s face lit up. “Maybe they can help us!”

They ran toward it, waving frantically. “Help! Please help us!”

The vehicle slowed. For a moment, hope filled their hearts.

But as it came closer, they froze.

Behind the wheel was Henry...smiling. And in the passenger seat, Tolu sat with her arms folded, staring coldly at them.

“No…” Yetunde whispered, stepping back.

“Well, well, well,” Henry said as he stepped out, his voice dripping with mockery. “Did you really think you could run from me?”

Tolu got out too, holding a small black bag. “I told you girls before… business is business.”

Adaobi’s eyes burned with tears. “Tolu… please… we grew up together. We were friends...Don’t do this.”

Tolu just shook her head. “Get in the car. Now!”

The girls exchanged desperate glances. The road behind them was empty. The bush on either side was too thick to run through.

Henry smirked. “I won’t ask again.”

When no one moved, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a gûn, cocking it. “Last chance.”

The girls hesitated… and then, from far down the road, the sound of a siren wailed loudly.

Henry’s head snapped toward the noise. Tolu’s eyes widened.

“They’re coming!” Chioma whispered, hope returning to her face.

Henry grabbed Tolu’s arm. “Get them in the car, now!”

The girls stood frozen, torn between running toward the siren or risking Henry’s bullet.

CHAPTER 7

The moment Yetunde heard the words “Bûrn the shed”, her whole body went cold.

“They… they want to bûrn us alive,” Chioma whispered, her voice barely audible.

“No, no, no…” Ife shook her head, her breathing quick and shallow. “We can’t die here. We can’t!”

“Shhh!” Yetunde hissed. “No noise. Follow me now!”

They moved quickly to the small broken window at the back. Adaobi squeezed through first, her hands scraping against the rough wood.

“Hurry! My leg is stuck!” she whispered urgently.

Yetunde and Chioma pushed from behind until Adaobi finally rolled onto the ground outside. Ife went next, trembling so much she almost slipped back in.

“Move fast!” Yetunde whispered as she helped her through.

Chioma climbed out after them, but as Yetunde was about to follow, a loud crack echoed, the sound of fire being lit at the front of the shed.

“They’ve started!” Adaobi gasped. “Yetunde, hurry!”

Yetunde jumped out just as thick smoke began curling into the air. The girls didn’t wait, they took off running, pushing through the bush without looking back.

Branches whipped against their faces. The ground was uneven, but fear kept them moving.

“Over there!” a voice shouted from behind them.

“They’ve seen us!” Chioma cried.

“Just keep running!” Yetunde yelled.

After a few minutes, they burst out of the bush and stumbled onto a narrow dirt road. In the distance, a dim light flickered.

“Look! Maybe it’s a house!” Adaobi pointed.

They ran toward it, hope rising in their chests. As they got closer, they saw an old mud house with a small lantern hanging by the door.

Yetunde banged on the door. “Please, help us! Please!”

The door opened slowly, revealing an old man with tired eyes and a long grey beard. He stared at their dirty clothes and swollen faces.

“Who are you girls? What happened to you?” he asked, his voice deep and slow.

“No time to explain, sir,” Yetunde said quickly, glancing over her shoulder. “Some men are after us. They want to...”

Suddenly, the sound of boots pounding the ground echoed from the road. The men were close again.

The old man’s eyes widened. “Come inside, quickly!”

They rushed in. He shut the door and bolted it. The room was small and smelled faintly of herbs.

“You can hide in the back room,” the old man whispered. “Don’t make a sound.”

The girls squeezed into the tiny back room. It was dark, with only a thin curtain separating them from the main room.

Moments later, loud knocks shook the door.

“Open up! We’re looking for some girls. They just passed this way!” a man’s rough voice shouted.

“I’ve not seen anyone,” the old man replied calmly.

“We know they came here! Let us search your house!”

“No,” the old man said firmly. “I live alone. Now leave me..”

Before he could finish, the sound of a gûn cocking filled the air.

“We said… open the door,” the man growled.

The girls in the back room froze. Ife’s eyes widened in the darkness. “They’re going to search here,” she cried.

Outside, boots shuffled, and then… the front door creaked open.

The girls held their breath as heavy footsteps entered the house.

A shadow appeared behind the curtain. The man reached out… and began to pull it aside.

THEY LEFT SCHOOL FOR NIGHT CLUB AND THIS HAPPENED…

---

CHAPTER 6

The masked man’s torchlight flashed right on Yetunde’s face. She froze instantly, her heart beating fast.

“You! Stop right there!” he shouted, his voice loud and angry.

Ife was still halfway through the window, her leg stuck between the bars.

“Pull me! Please pull me!” she cried, kicking and struggling.

Yetunde grabbed her arms. Adaobi and Chioma rushed to help. Together, they pulled hard until Ife fell out and landed on the ground with a soft thud.

“Run!” Yetunde yelled.

They all dashed into the bush. Dry leaves crûnched under their feet. Their hearts were pôunding like drums.

Behind them, the masked man roared, “They’re escaping! This way!”

They could hear more boots running toward them from different directions. The guards were closing in.

Branches scratched their arms. Thórns tóre at their skin, but they didn’t stop. Chioma tripped over a root and almost fell, but Adaobi pulled her up quickly.

Suddenly, a bright light appeared ahead. Another guard was coming straight at them.

They stopped in fear.

“We’re trapped!” Ife gasped.

Yetunde looked around quickly and saw a narrow path hidden by tall grass. She pointed. “There! Hurry!”

They pushed through the grass and found themselves in a small clearing.

In the middle stood an old, leaning wooden shed. Its door swung slowly in the wind.

“This way, let’s hide inside,” Yetunde whispered.

They ran inside and shut the door quietly.

It was dark. The air smelled of dust and old wood. They could hear each other’s heavy breathing.

Outside, footsteps and voices grew louder.

“Search everywhere! They can’t be far!” a man shouted.

The girls held each other tightly, trying not to make a sound.

The shèd door creaked open slowly. Light from a torch spilled inside.

The beam swept across the floor, then a shadow appeared in the doorway.

“Check inside,” someone outside ordered.

A man stepped in. His heavy boots thudded against the wooden floor. The smell of sweat and cigarèttes filled the air.

The torchlight moved from a broken chair, to some old sacks, then toward the corner where the girls were hiding.

Ife covered her mouth stifling her cries. Chioma squeezed her eyes shut, silently praying.

The man took another step, his light almost on them...

Then, from deep in the forest, another voice yelled, “I see movement! Over here!”

The man stopped, turned toward the door, and shouted, “Stay here! I’ll be back!” Then he ran out toward the noise.

The girls stayed still, listening as the sound of his footsteps faded away.

Adaobi whispered, tears rolling down her face, “That was too close.”

Yetunde leaned forward. “We can’t stay here. If he comes back and really searches, we’re done.”

“Where will we go?” Ife asked, shaking.

Yetunde pointed to a small, broken window at the back. “Through there. It might take us away from them.”

They hurried to it. Adaobi was halfway out when they heard boots again, this time, more than one person.

A deep voice growled outside, “Don’t waste time. Burn the shèd if you have to. They must be inside.”

The girls froze.

THEY LEFT SCHOOL FOR NIGHT CLUB AND THIS HAPPENED…

CHAPTER 5

The warehouse was quiet, except for the soft sound of someone crying. The air was hot and smelled of old dust.

Yetunde sat with her back against the wall, thinking. She could feel her heart beating hard. She knew one thing, if they waited till morning, it would be too late.

She crawled closer to the others and whispered, “We must escape before they wake up.”

“But the door is locked,” Chioma said, her voice shaking.

“I know,” Yetunde replied, “but there must be another way.”

They all looked around. The room was big and empty. In one corner, a small window sat high on the wall. It was covered with iron bars, but one of the bars looked a little loose.

“If we can push that bar out, maybe we can fit through,” Adaobi said, pointing.

The problem was the height. The window was far above their heads.

“We can climb on each other,” Ife suggested.

They waited until the noise outside dièd down. The masked men seemed to be drinking and laughing near the main gate.

Quietly, the girls moved to the wall. Adaobi bent down, and Chioma climbed on her back. Then Yetunde climbed on Chioma’s shoulders. It was shaky, but she reached the window.

Her fingers pulled at the loose bar. It moved a little. She pulled harder, using all her strength. The metal squeaked.

“Hurry,” Chioma whispered, looking at the door in fear.

Finally, the bar came loose with a sharp sound. They froze, listening. No footsteps came.

One by one, they climbed up. It wasn’t easy. The window was small. Yetunde went first. She squeezed through, falling on the sand outside. Then she helped the others.

Just as Ife was about to come out last, they heard voices.

“Check the girls before you sleep!” a man shouted from outside the warehouse.

Ife’s eyes went wide. “They’re coming!”

Yetunde grabbed her hands, pulling hard. “Come out now!”

Suddenly, a beam of light flashed across the yard. One of the masked men was walking toward them, holding a torch.

The girls froze. The masked man stopped, staring at the wall where Chioma knelt. His hand moved slowly toward the gÛn on his waist.

CHAPTER 4

The girls cried endlessly as the masked men dragged them back to the warehouse.

"Tolu… you… you planned this?" Yetunde’s voice cracked like dry wood.

Tolu didn’t reply. She walked in front of them, gûn still in her hand.

Inside the warehouse, the men pushed the girls to the cold floor. One of the kidnàppers, a tall, muscular man with a deep scar on his cheek, walked in. His voice was rough like gravel.

"You girls are lucky," he said, smirking. "We were already thinking of sèlling you cheap. But now that our dear agent has brought you back herself, you’ll fetch us good money."

The girls looked at each other in confusion.

"What… what do you mean by ‘agent’?" Chioma asked, her lips trembling.

The man laughed loudly. "Ask your friend here. Tolu, tell them your real job."

Tolu’s face was cold. Her eyes carried no pity. "They want to know? Fine. I work with them. I’ve always worked with them. Me and Henry planned this from the beginning."

The words hit the girls like a hot slap.

"You’re joking…" Ife’s voice was barely above a whisper.

"I’m not," Tolu said sharply. "The night club? The invite from Henry? The ‘plan’ to sneak out? All of it was to get you here. Each of you is worth over two million naira. That’s almost ten million just for this trip."

"Jesus Christ!" Adaobi shouted, her eyes wide with shock and fear. "You mean… you sold us for money? We’re your friends, Tolu!"

"Friends?" Tolu scoffed. "Which friendship paid my school fees? Which friendship bought my mother’s medicine? Which friendship gave me a good life? I’m tired of being broke while others enjoy. This is business. And in business, you don’t mix emotions."

Yetunde’s chest rose and fell fast, her eyes burning with tears. "So all those times you laughed with us, shared food with us, you were planning to betray us?"

Tolu looked away. "Believe what you want. But this is bigger than you think. Henry is already arranging your transport. By tomorrow morning, you’ll be gone, four different buyers, four different countries. You’ll never see each other again."

The scar-faced man laughed again, clearly enjoying the pain on the girls’ faces.

"You have the night to rest. Tomorrow, your journey begins," he said, before walking out.

The heavy door slammed shut, leaving the girls in darkness again.

Ife broke down completely, holding Adaobi and crying like a baby. Chioma was rocking back and forth, muttering prayers. Yetunde sat still, staring into space, her mind racing.

Finally, she whispered, "We are not waiting till tomorrow. We will escape tonight. I don’t care what it takes."

The others turned to her, their eyes red but desperate.

"But how?" Ife asked in a shaky voice.

"We’ll find a way," Yetunde said, her voice low but strong. "If we stay here, we’re finished. And if Tolu thinks she’s smarter than us, she’s about to learn."

Far outside the warehouse, Tolu stood with Henry under a dim light. He was counting thick bundles of cash.

"You did well," Henry said with a grin. "After this deal, we’re going to live big."

Tolu smiled happily, collecting her share. "Yeah… very big."

THEY LEFT SCHOOL FOR NIGHT CLUB AND THIS HAPPENED..

---

CHAPTER 3

The girls wept uncontrollably as the masked men dragged Tolu away. Their cries echoed around the dim, cold warehouse.

"God please, don't let them kîll our friend. God, please, we're sorry. Please forgive us..." Ife sobbed, her voice breaking as tears streamed down her cheeks.

Moments later, the heavy metal door creaked open again. Two masked men stepped inside, their boots thudding against the dusty floor.

"If you don't quiet down, we'll shOOt this bûllet into your skûlls, just as your friend just went down with one," one of them threatened, his tone icy and dèadly.

The girls froze. Their cries quickly faded into muffled whimpers as fear grîpped them tighter than ever.

When the men finally left, the silence lasted only a few seconds before the sobbing returned, louder and heavier.

"So, they kîlled Tolu? These people are heartless. Who knows who is going to be next amongst us? God, please, I don't want to diè..." Adaobi cried, hugging herself as though her arms could protect her.

Yetunde wiped her eyes roughly, taking a deep breath. "I think I have a plan," she said, her voice low but firm.

The others immediately turned to her.

She leaned closer and whispered, "Let's sneak out."

Ife’s eyes widened, and a deep frown creased her face. "No o. What if we get caught and get kîlled instantly?" she asked, her voice trembling.

"How would you know if you don't give it a try? If we stay here too, we're still going to get kîlled after everything. Let's just try escaping for once. You don't know if God wants to help us out too," Yetunde replied, determination burning in her eyes.

Chioma nodded quickly. "I think I agree with Yetunde. Me, I don't want to diè here o..." She was sweating so much it dripped down her temples.

Gradually, Ife lowered her head and gave a reluctant nod. She knew they were right.

---

That night, the girls quietly prepared for their escape. Every sound felt louder in the stillness, footsteps, whispers, even the rustle of their clothes.

The màsked men were stationed everywhere, their dark silhouèttes shifting in the shadows.

Just outside the door, two masked men stood guard, riflès in hand.

"How’re we going to pass through here now?" Ife whispered, fear gripping her chest like a vice.

Suddenly, from somewhere far off, a loud voice barked an order, and all the masked men began gathering in one corner of the compound.

The girls exchanged quick glances, hope flickering in their eyes.

"This is our opportunity to escape," Adaobi whispered urgently.

The four of them tiptoed out of the building, their hearts pounding hard enough to echo in their ears.

Every step felt like it might be their last. Sweat trickled down their backs, their breaths shallow and fast.

Before long, they found themselves in the forest. The night air was heavy, the darkness almost suffocating.

As they moved, leaves crunched under their feet and branches snapped, each sound making their fear spîke higher.

Then came a voice, loud and furious.

"They've escaped! Look for them everywhere, in the bush, at the corners! Look for those girls now!"

The sound of footsteps charging in their direction sent them running without a second thought.

Ife was crying again, her sobs mixing with the sound of their hurried breaths as they weaved through the trees.

And then, out of nowhere, they saw Tolu standing in front of them.

The girls stopped in shock.

"Tolu? You're not dèad?? Omg! We thought you were dèad..." Yetunde gasped, tears welling in her eyes as she hugged her tightly.

"The men told us you were dèad," Ife said, breaking into tears as she joined the embrace.

"I'm so happy you're alive, Tolu," Chioma added, her voice trembling as she clung to her friend.

The four of them cried together, relief washing over them like a warm wave.

"Thank God we're complete now. We'll be escaping together. Let's go, Tolu. The men are searching for us all right now," Adaobi said quickly, turning to lead the way.

But Tolu didn’t move.

The girls stopped, confused.

"Tolu, what’re you doing? Let's go. There's no time!" Yetunde urged.

Tolu’s expression hardened. Slowly, she reached into her clothes and pulled out her phone and dialled a line.

"I found them." she said, then, pulled out a gûn and pointed it directly at their faces.

"move..." she ordered, her voice cold.

The girls froze in place, shock flooding through them. Soon, the màsked men gathered around and began dragging the girls back to the warehouse.

"please, don't kîll us. We beg you in the name of God.. Tolu,...how could you?..." The girls cried endlessly. Their voices echoing through the thick forest.
