Listen up, men! The rate at which young men are dropping dead from kidney failure in Nigeria is frightening. Men in their 20s, 30s, early 40s collapsing like old men because their kidneys have packed up. And guess what? Most of it is preventable.
(This post is for educational purposes only , do not take it as a medical advice, consult your doctor!)
I spoke with a doctor, and here’s exactly what he told me — raw and unfiltered:
1. TOO MANY PAINKILLERS ARE KILLING YOU
Your back pains, your headaches, your “stress,” your gym cramps… and the first thing you swallow is diclofenac, felvin, ibuprofen, tramadol like groundnut.
These drugs quietly damage the kidneys over time.
A lot of you are walking around with kidney damage and don’t even know.
2. LOW WATER INTAKE
Men drink coke, energy drinks, beer, alcohol… but can go a whole day without drinking ordinary water.
Your kidneys need water to flush your system.
When you deprive them, they begin to die.
3. HERBAL MIXTURES AND ALCOHOL
Those agbo, bitters, “manpower,” and alcohol combinations are destroying your kidneys.
Your body is not a chemical lab.
4. STEROIDS AND GYM SUPPLEMENTS
All this overnight six-pack rush is costing men their kidneys.
Fake supplements, unprescribed protein powders, and steroids are frying kidneys everywhere.
5. HOLDING URINE
You’re busy, you’re on the road, you think you’re a warrior.
Holding your urine regularly damages your bladder and forces your kidneys to work overtime.
6. UNTREATED INFECTIONS
UTIs, STIs, untreated gonorrhea, untreated syphilis — all these things don’t stay in one place.
They travel.
They affect your kidneys.
7. SMOKING AND HEAVY DRINKING
You think you’re forming big boy.
Your kidneys are suffering.
EARLY SIGNS OF KIDNEY FAILURE (DON’T IGNORE THESE)
These are the symptoms the doctor said most young men ignore until it’s too late:
• Constant fatigue (you’re always tired)
• Swollen feet or face
• Foamy urine
• Reduced urine output
• Back pain (not muscle pain, kidney pain)
• Nausea and vomiting
• Itchy body
• Loss of appetite
• Darkening of your skin
• Difficulty concentrating
• High blood pressure (big warning sign)
If you’re experiencing any of these consistently, go to a hospital immediately.
Don’t Google it.
Don’t drink agbo.
Don’t take random drugs.
HOW TO PREVENT IT (DOCTOR’S ADVICE):
• Drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water daily
• Stop abusing painkillers
• Reduce alcohol drastically
• Stop manpower and agbo
• Avoid unnecessary supplements
• Treat infections immediately
• Check your blood pressure often
• Do a kidney function test once a year
• Reduce salt
• Avoid processed foods
• Stop holding your urine
• Exercise regularly
Men, you cannot be powerful if your kidneys are weak.
Before you chase money, women, success, or masculinity — protect your health first.
