Tupac’s final days remain one of the most discussed chapters in hip-hop history. - On September 7, 1996, Tupac Shakur was shot multiple times while riding in a car with Death Row Records boss Suge Knight in Las Vegas. The shooting happened only hours after Tupac attended a Mike Tyson fight and was involved in an altercation at the MGM Grand. Retired Las Vegas police officer Chris Carroll later recalled being one of the first officers to reach Tupac. Carroll said he repeatedly asked the rapper who had shot him, but Tupac never identified anyone. Despite years of stories suggesting Tupac told police his crew would handle the situation themselves, that specific claim has been disputed and isn’t established fact. Tupac remained hospitalized for six days before dying from his injuries on September 13, 1996, at only 25 years old. His death became one of hip-hop’s greatest mysteries and continues to generate discussion decades later as the investigation and legal case surrounding the killing have evolved.
