Nigeria risks missing back to back World Cups after the Super Eagles could only manage to pick one point in the crunch game against Group C leaders, South Africa's Bafana Bafana at the Free State Stadium, yesterday. Super Eagles have prosecuted the qualifying campaign with three coaches, but picked just 11 points from 8 games. What had appeared like a relatively easy group when the draw revealed Nigeria's opponents back in 2023, the 'most valuable team' in Africa don't look like they're even in contention for a ticket to the mundial next year though the back door. Blames have been traded and apportioned in measures - the NFF, retinue of Coaches, Players and even the media have not been spared of what has now become a fiasco.

‎We ask though, as the calls for a post-mortem of Nigeria's failing 2026 WCQ campaign gathers momentum, who is more responsible for how we got here:

‎Nigeria failed to pick three points in the crucial World Cup qualifying match against South Africa. The sides settled for a share of the spoils and the result not only left Nigeria's qualification chances in tatters it also pit the fans against Eric Chelle and his players. Individuals were singled out for criticism, even the NFF chimed in. But there was another section of fans who stood firm, showing their support to the Super Eagles.
