IMPORTANCE OF ASCERTAINING/KNOWING YOUR GENOTYPE AND BLOOD GROUP
A genotype is an individual's genetic makeup, while blood group is determined by the antigens on the surface of red blood cells:
Genotype
The genetic constitution of an individual, or the sum of genes passed down from parents to offspring. Genotypes are made up of two-letter combinations that determine which traits are inherited.
For example, there are six human blood genotypes: AA, AC, AS, CC, SC, and SS.
Blood group
The classification of blood based on the antigens and antibodies found on red blood cells. There are eight blood types: A+, A-, B+, B-, AB+, AB-, O+, and O-. Blood type is determined by the types of antigens (A and/or B) on red blood cells, and whether the person has the Rh factor protein.
WHAT IS THE HEALTHIEST BLOOD TYPE
Of the eight main blood types, people with Type O have the lowest risk for heart attacks and blood clots in the legs and lungs. This may be because people with other blood types have higher levels of certain clotting factors, which are proteins that cause blood to coagulate
NOTE -It's important for intending couples to know each other's blood genotype and blood group, as this can help predict the genotype, quality of life, and overall health of their offspring.
