SANITATION PUSH: The Lagos State Government says it has deployed 1,710 public toilets across the state in a renewed effort to eliminate open defecation and improve public hygiene.

Commissioner for Environment Tokunbo Wahab also called on filling stations, banks, eateries, and other public-facing businesses to make their restrooms accessible to the public where possible, noting that government alone cannot address the challenge.

He added that enforcement is ongoing, with individuals caught engaging in open defecation being arrested and prosecuted under environmental sanitation laws, as part of efforts to protect public health and maintain a cleaner environment.

RESULT FRAUD ALERT: The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed the arrest of two candidates and a parent for allegedly falsifying 2026 UTME results using Artificial Intelligence and other electronic tools.

According to the board, the suspects manipulated official SMS result notifications to fabricate scores and mislead others. JAMB described the act as a serious criminal offence and said all those involved will face prosecution.

The board also warned candidates against tampering with result messages sent via its official SMS channels (55019 and 66019), noting that results should only be accessed through approved platforms.

RESULT GUIDE: The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the first batch of 2026 UTME results, with candidates currently able to check their scores via SMS, while printing of official result slips is yet to be activated.

According to JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, candidates who sat for the exam can check their results by sending “UTMERESULT” to 55019 using the phone number linked to their registration, provided they have at least ₦50 airtime.

The board warned that altering or falsifying result messages is a criminal offence, cautioning candidates against manipulating SMS results to mislead others.

JAMB added that result slip printing will be enabled later on its e-Facility portal, where candidates can log in, pay a ₦1,500 fee, and download their official slips containing full details required for admission.

Candidates were also advised to use only official JAMB platforms, keep printed copies of their result slips, and use the password recovery option or visit a JAMB office if they encounter login issues.

SECURITY BREACH: Benue Links has confirmed the arrest of its driver who allegedly violated company rules by undertaking an unauthorized night trip that led to the abduction of passengers, many believed to be JAMB candidates.

According to the company, the driver acted without approval and outside permitted travel hours when the bus was attacked. While he and a few passengers escaped, 15 were abducted, with two later escaping, leaving 13 still unaccounted for.

“The said trip was unauthorized and conducted in clear violation of the company’s operational guidelines,” the management stated, adding that it is working with security agencies to secure the victims’ release.
