Channels Television has been broadcasting in Nigeria since June 1993, when it was licenced following the Federal Government's deregulation of the broadcast media in 1992. Today, it broadcasts to a discerning audience of over 20 million people. Channels Television was established as a news station to satisfy the yearning of Nigerians for an independent channel that would:
* Provide an alternative
medium of communication regarding the government and its policies, while holding public officers accountable to the people;
* Accommodate opposing views;
* Inform and educate the general public on governance and their civic responsibilities;
* Uphold the ideals of balanced reporting, objectivity, fairness, and the individual's right to communicate. The station has been named the 'Best Television Station of the Year' by the Nigerian Media Merit Award Trust an impressive 14 times (2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2020), earning Channels Television the title of "Station of the Decade". The company employs a team of over 200 of the country's finest broadcast journalists. Many of these professionals have trained in Europe, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and have won numerous national and international awards across various categories.
