Some people are just online, but in reality, they know little or nothing about the subjects they talk about. They rush to conclusions and spread false narratives without understanding facts or tradition.
Let’s set the record straight. The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, is a left-handed monarch. That’s simply how he was created by God. Being a “lefty” doesn’t have any hidden meaning or mystery attached to it. It’s a natural trait and has nothing to do with spiritual practices or rituals as some misinformed people like to suggest.
Likewise, the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, was known for his consistent practice of covering his microphone with a white handkerchief whenever he addressed the public. That was his personal style and royal trademark since his ascension to the throne. It had no fe**sh implication whatsoever.
Now, the recent conversation about the new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Olatunji Owoade, came up during the 90th birthday celebration of Sir Kessington Adebutu in Lagos. Some people noticed his gestures and immediately began to draw unnecessary comparisons with other traditional rulers, especially the Ooni of Ife and the late Alaafin Adeyemi.
The truth is, every monarch has his own personality, habits, and royal expression. Culture allows room for individuality. What one king does might differ from another, and that doesn’t make any of them less traditional or less royal.
Before people start creating stories or attaching meanings to things they don’t understand, they should learn to verify information and respect the uniqueness of each traditional ruler. Being informed is better than being loud online without knowledge.
So, once again, let’s get it right — not everything you see in royal gatherings has a secret meaning. Some of you just mix things up unnecessarily.
